Irideon is the son of the mercenary Chrysaor and the alchemist Asclepius, partner of Darius. His siblings are Acalla, Geryon, Priamon, and Calista. His father pursued a career in alchemy, but was exiled from Sanctum, the Capitol, after authorities discovered that the two of them were attempting to find a way to achieve true resurrection. His mother was a mercenary guard who was stationed near the Tursin Mine in Elysea’s region of Verteron. They grew up in the rural Tolbas Forest.Ascension
Irideon, nicknamed “Rid”, was a cheerful middle child and grew used to being ignored in favor of his more talented siblings-not out of cruelty, but simply because his mother didn’t quite know what to do with a non-fighter. It was assumed that he would grow to be a simple gatherer or messenger. As a boy, he liked to stay in the apothecary watching his father make potions or explore the Tolbas Forest. Several times his adventures got him nearly killed by wild animals, but his sister Acalla or his mother Chrysaor saved him in the nick of time.
He was a bit of a black sheep in his family, showing no talent for combat despite being born into a family of mercenaries. Instead of fighting worgs, he tried to befriend them, and rather than hunt pests and chase his siblings, he gathered flowers. He often daydreamed and played with imaginary friends while his siblings trained. As he got older, he was put to work running simple errands for the people in town. Despite his distractible, but peaceful nature, his flightiness and high energy caused him to leave a trail of disaster wherever he went. The villagers tolerated him, but dreaded his help. As he grew older, his naive and sometimes fantastical views of the world and wild, erratic conversations made him difficult for them to talk to. Several times a year he would run into town with a pack of monsters on his tail, to be saved by the guards but cause property damage on the way.
While a human, Irideon was bounced from job to job, causing disaster everywhere he went. Eventually he ended up bringing supplies to and from the daevas defending the Verteron Citadel some distance from the Tolbas.
Nobody knew how it happened, but one day he emerged from the forest looking slightly woozy. When questioned, he was unable to recall what had happened. Something seemed off, but because it was Rid, who was always off, nobody bothered to investigate the issue. He resumed business as usual. One day, while running supplies from the Tolbas, Irideon fell off the ledge of the Zumion Ravine and to his death.Military Service and the Innocent Bystanders
The villagers were saddened, but regretfully unsurprised by his disappearance when he didn’t return from his supply run. They continued on with their lives after an appropriate period of mourning. A week later, Irideon returned to the Citadel, scraggly and slightly worse for wear. The citadel was stunned, having presumed him to be dead and enjoyed the relative peace in his absence.
He recalled vague memories of falling, and was confused and dazed. He also was fiddling idly with his feathers, seemingly unaware that he had gained daevic wings. With the entire city gawking, it was discovered that Irideon, of all people, had ascended and become a daeva and he was dispatched to Elysea’s capitol, Sanctum, shortly afterwards. After Irideon, Priamon, and Calista’s daevic ascensions, the family used the wealth provided by Sanctum in exchange for their military service to move to the Cantas Coast to experience their retirement.
He was immediately assigned back to Vertreon by Sanctum to learn to fight and fly properly as a magical spiritmaster, to the dismay of the villagers who thought they were rid of him. Now enabled, he did low level missions with his elemental familiars in tow and his streak of destructiveness continued. At first, Irideon showed great promise as a spiritmaster, but lacked any sort of fighting instinct, preferring to run away from any hostile encounter. When he did fight, he tended to die far more often than his comrades. He was regarded as a powerful asset with his innate ability to incite terror into the hearts of his enemies, though this more often than not resulted in his immediate death as he ran into hordes of enemies to deliver the spell, which his allies then dispatched.
After proving himself in battle and defeating his first Asmodian daeva, Rid found a mentee named Ael who eventually became his partner and best friend. They became incredibly close and nigh inseparable. Their combined skillset made a devastatingly effective combination, and they worked together to take down enemies that larger groups often struggled to defeat. Ael and Rid founded a legion of daevas and called themselves the Innocent Bystanders, and he delighted in their laughter and smiles. The IB spent several decades together. At some point during their time together, Irideon accidentally consumed a bag of dimensional fragments that were his components for teleportation spells.
With the help and love of the Innocent Bystanders, Rid became a skilled alchemist and gatherer, bringing valuable resources to the Elyos war effort against the Balaur and the Asmodians. He and Ael were nearly inseparable and joined at the hip through most of their military service. During his time in Eltnen, Irideon got into trouble for crashing the trade broker through an aggressive vertical and horizontal price gouging scheme of fine health potions. After being disciplined, he turned to supplying the Elyos forces instead of the trade broker, which he viewed as a game.
Irideon was eventually transferred to a post in the space-like void between Atreia’s hemispheres, the Abyss, where he flew around somewhat aimlessly gathering aether crystals, fixating on projects, missing his friend when they were assigned separate regions, working missions for the war effort and talking to spirits.
Just before falling through the portal, his paperwork was being filled out for his transfer away from the Abyss to the expeditionary forces. This, however, never came to pass as he was sucked through a portal to another world.
