HISTORY: We all know the story of Hansel and Gretel, the breadcrumb trail, and the candy house. But this is not quite the traditional tale that most people grew up reading about. Hansel and Gretel were the children of two loving parents. One of them a farm boy named Robert and the other a white witch named Adrianna. Though their love was unconventional, they did not care and simply kept Adrianna's magic a well kept secret. Hansel and Gretel were happy children who were completely oblivious to the magical history of their family. Hansel was his father's son. He would go out with him to go hunting all the time, learning his way around a rifle and how to maneuver through the woods with ease before he was ten. He loved his mother and sister just as much. It took him years before he stopped hanging onto his mother's skirt when they would venture into the village, and he never was without an idea for a prank to pull on his sister (out of love, of course). His favorite prank was to lay in wait under her bed before reaching out to grab her ankle when she least expected it. This was their relationship, an equally teasing and loving one that made them quite close.

They had a happy life up until the day that a witch of the black arts named Muriel decided to try a ghastly ritual that required the heart of a grand white witch. Knowing that Adrianna was far too powerful for her, Muriel set her sights on Gretel. Trained or not, Gretel was her mother's daughter and her heart would work just fine. But Muriel was not foolish. She knew that Adrianna would do everything in her power to protect her daughter, so she decided to make it certain that Adrianna would not be able to do a thing by telling the neighboring town of Oxburg that Adrianna was a witch. Villagers, armed with torches and pitchforks, marched toward the little family's cottage, and the parents of two did the only thing they could think of --

They abandoned Hansel and Gretel far into the woods, hoping that the distance would keep them safe. They were right. While Adrianna burned for being a witch and Robert was hung for his attachment to her, Hansel and Gretel were unharmed though thoroughly confused as they sat in the spot their father had left them all night and all of the next day. Their rumbling tummies were finally the main motivation for leaving the spot as they realized that their father was not coming back. They tried to find their way back home but disoriented as they had been when they had been pulled out of their beds, they could not remember the way and ended up stumbling upon a house made of candy instead. It was a house that may have seemed like a dream at first but quickly became a nightmare. And it was a place that Hansel would wish he had never laid eyes on.

A witch owned the house, and she took the two children in as her prisoners. While Gretel was forced to become the witch's servant, Hansel was put into a small cage and force fed handfuls of candy. The witch would shove the candy down his throat or threaten Gretel's life to get him to eat. Throwing up the candy -- which happened more than once -- was met with either a harsh slap to his face or, even worse, a harsh slap to Gretel's face instead. By the time the witch had decided that he was ready to be eaten (as was her plan), he was so sick and weak that he could hardly fight her off. But Gretel was another story entirely. She managed to get free of her binds and grab a knife. Though the witch tried to hit Gretel with a spell, the dark magic just passed through her as if it was nothing. Gretel stabbed the witch several times before moving to free her brother, but the witch wasn't dead. Hansel managed to gather enough strength to hit her with a club to throw her into the oven, and the two siblings locked her in there as she burned alive.

That was only the beginning of their story.

They managed to get to a nearby village and tell their story before Hansel collapsed from an unknown illness. It wasn't long before the village doctor recognized the symptoms as that of the deadly disease that they called the Sugar Disease (aka diabetes), a disease that would lack any sort of treatment for almost 200 years in our world. Hansel went from being force fed candy by a witch to being practically starved, as this was the only treatment that physicians had for this disease at the time. But Hansel's fate was not to die after surviving everything he had been through so far, and a miracle breakthrough happened, giving him the miracle treatment that would allow him to live a mostly healthy life. As soon as he was better, the mayor of the town tried to throw them into an orphanage, but afraid of being separated, the two siblings took Hansel's medication and bailed. Their future destinies would eventually fall into their lap when they came across a missing child poster of a child who had been taken by a witch. Remembering how horrible it had been for them, they went to rescue the child and murder the witch, and that's when they realized that they were really good at this.

For years, Hansel and Gretel traveled across what was known as witch country, killing witches for a fee for different towns and villages, and taking out any extras that they happened across along the way. They had a no nonsense attitude about magic and those that practiced witchcraft, but they only ever killed evil witches as those were the markings they had come to search for. Witches who practiced black magic always showed the proper signs -- a decay would set in, in the skin or the teeth, and it could not be hidden. As far as they knew, white magic did not exist. But that all changed when they were hired by a certain mayor for a certain town to deal with a certain case involving just under a dozen missing children. They saved a young woman named Mina from execution after she was accused of being a witch. They checked her out, and she did not have any of the signs, so they let her go. As they were investigating the missing children, they learned that the Blood Moon was coming up, and that the missing children had to be related somehow.

And they were. The town was Oxburg and Muriel was back, wanting to finish what she started all those years ago, and she was after Gretel's heart once again. Not that they knew this right away. During the investigation, Hansel had continued to see Mina, the young woman they saved, and he started to feel as close to "in love" as he had ever felt before. But then, the truth was revealed about their mother, why they were abandoned -- all of it. And with his sister in danger, Hansel was left, fatally wounded, only to be healed by Mina, who -- it turned out -- was a witch after all. But she was a good witch. At first, he was disgusted and angry until he realized that her powers could help him save his sister. She used her white magic to bless all of the weapons he had created over the years, and he marched into the den of the dark witches and began to kill every last one of them for trying to harm his sister. Muriel managed to get away, and he and Mina chased her down. Mina and Muriel dueled it out, but Mina was no match and was killed by Muriel. Angered over her death, Hansel beat Muriel to a pulp, and with his sister's help, killed her once and for all.

Now, he and his sister continue to roam witch country with a few more war wounds and a new found knowledge about their heritage, but their mission remains the same. That is, until Hansel suddenly appears in the Land of Make Believe.

PERSONALITY: Hansel's personality has been shaped by the person he has been around most and cares about most in this world, his sister. He is extremely protective of her, though he is not blind to her capabilities or her badass way about her. When it comes to some things, he'll let her handle it on her own seeing how he knows that revenge is always sweet, but when it comes to the bigger stuff -- nobody is allowed to touch his sister. To be fully honest, though, Gretel is often taking care of Hansel as much as he tries to take care of her, sometimes more-so. Whether he would like to admit it or not, Hansel has grown dependent on his sister, and he would be lost without her. He would do anything for her including give up his life, metaphorically and literally. As far as he is concerned, wherever she goes, he goes. And as of right now, that has consisted of just following her to the next witch hunt. They're both too damaged for much else.

His past has damaged him to a point of near disrepair. He has deep-seated abandonment issues that still brings him back to that day when his father left him and his sister in the woods. He is always afraid of being abandoned by those around him, which is why he never goes out of his way to make connections (until it is thrust upon him, as if by fate itself). So, as much as he vows to never leave his sister's side, he is always afraid of her leaving his, whether through her own actions or death. He also has a deep-seated hatred for witches thanks to that night as well. As far as he is concerned, burn them all and be done with it. He has only recently learned that not all witches are evil and that his sister is actually considered a witch by the magical community, so he is starting to see that maybe not all witchcraft is bad -- maybe it's black and white instead, but definitely not gray. He is still stuck in the old ways of "either you're good or you're bad, and if you're bad, you're dead" type of mantra.

But as much as he is attached to his sister, Hansel is still a hotblooded male with the same desires as every other man (desires -- it may need to be noted -- that he would never turn onto his sister). The problem is that Hansel didn't grow up like most boys; he didn't get the proper socialization that most males get as they learn the ropes of courting through puberty and beyond. Because of that, he has no idea how to deal with women who are not his sister, especially women who he has an interest in. In their presence, he becomes decidedly more awkward and uncertain in his stance and speech. Somewhere, in a place that he rarely lets himself think about too much, he really does want to fall in love and maybe even start a family of his own, but that's normal and Hansel is anything but. In general, he has a hard time opening up to people, even if just on a friendship level. This comes from not only his lack of a social upbringing but also from his fear of abandonment.

Outside of romantic endeavors, though, Hansel is a picture of bravado and confidence. The old saying "brave but stupid" is Hansel in a nutshell. He doesn't take shit from anybody, and he's actually quite a good public speaker if he's forced into it. He also has a genuinely good sense of humor. Though a bit of a defense mechanism to hide from all of the shit in his life, Hansel really does manage to find the humor in almost all situations. He's the guy that would probably crack a joke as you hold a gun to his head just because he could -- and then he'd use the distraction from the confusion his joke caused to turn the tables on you. But don't let his humorous demeanor fool you. Hansel is focused and determined to get a job done once he takes it on. He may like drinking and having a good laugh, but at the end of the day, he is more concerned about making the world just a little less evil than having a good time.

APPEARANCE: Hansel stands at 5'10". He is muscled and toned from head to toe, giving him a perpetually "chiseled" look. He has dark blonde hair and gray eyes. He keeps his face clean shaven. He has a few scars from his witch hunting duties, and he can usually be found with fresh needle marks and bruises on his thighs from his insulin injections. Despite his finely toned body, he usually dresses completely covered up. He prefers dark colors that can blend easily into the shadows, especially when hunting witches. He also prefers to wear leather as it is an extra layer of protection that is a lot lighter than traditional metal armor. His clothes always need to have an extra bit of room to allow for movement; he is used to having to fight, and the last thing he needs is restrictive clothing. He prefers boots for the added protection to his feet and because he finds them easy to run in.

LIKES: Weapons; inventing weapons; alcohol; getting paid; his sister (sometimes); ridding the world of evil; kicking ass and taking names.
DISLIKES: (Dark) Witches; small towns; idiot sheriffs; men hitting on his sister; fanboys/fangirls; girls hitting on him; awkward social situations; sweets; remembering the past; his illness (diabetes).
STRENGTHS: Fighting skills; inventing weaponry; weapon skills; love for his sister; holding his alcohol; immune to dark magic; a good heart.
WEAKNESSES: Social skills; his illness (diabetes); love for his sister; his past; pretty girls; lack of knowledge on how to deal with pretty girls; prejudiced against witches.
SPECIAL FACTS/ABILITIES: Hansel is the son of a grand white witch. This has given him an immunity to all dark magic, making it impossible for curses (and the like) to be placed on him. But he can still be punched and beaten all the same. Any other powers that have come from being the son of a witch have not yet been revealed or discovered.

Also, thanks to an encounter with a witch when he was still young that forced him to eat so much candy that it made him sick, Hansel now has a magical-form of diabetes. While everything about his disease is similar to the diabetes that we know, the onslaught of symptoms is quite sudden and happens everyday at the exact same times. His blood sugar peaks every 6 hours everyday without fail and within 1-2 minutes, if he does not receive his insulin, he can pass out and start to fall into diabetic coma. To combat this extremely aggressive form of diabetes, Hansel's insulin is also not the same as the insulin that we know in the real world. It is extremely fast acting (onset is within 1-2 minutes), is not food dependent, and it lasts just about the full 6 hours. The second he's injected with it, he starts to feel instantly better, and he does not need another shot for another 6 hours until his blood sugar peaks once again.

Hansel is also quite the inventor. Being born in the eighteenth century, most of the weapons that he uses should not have been invented for almost 100 years, but Hansel is far ahead of his time. He has invented countless different types of weaponry for both himself and his sister. He also invented the watch that he wears to keep track of his diabetes, managing to fix it so that it would start to buzz at 12 and 6 o'clock (both AM and PM) as a reminder everyday. Inventing all of these weapons has also made him quite the expert with them, and though they are all mostly long-ranged, he is quite a good hand-to-hand combat fighter as well. He knows how to take a beating, and he gives just as good of one back. He is also an amazing runner, being both quick and agile.

WHAT IS ARRIVING WITH YOUR CHARACTER: A modified shotgun that he invented himself, strapped in a brown leather strap to his back. A small concealed revolver that he (again) invented himself that he keeps on his belt at the back of his waistband. A curved blade that he keeps concealed in the inside pocket of his jacket. He also has everything that he was wearing at the time, which is pretty much his entire wardrobe (black trench coat, brown leather vest, off white shirt, brown belt, black slacks, black boots, black leather fingerless gloves). He also has a brass watch that keeps track of when he needs to take his insulin shots along with 5 syringes filled with modified insulin that are kept on his belt. He's carrying a brown satchel, which contains several documents and sightings of witches back home, several vials of insulin that are the equivalent of just over a week of meds, and several packets of ammo for his guns.
