Naoki stands 5'10" tall with an athletic physique, light skin, and brown eyes. He wears his brown hair on the longer side compared to other men, though it suits him well. It can be seen usually worn down, but he has the tendency to keep it back with a bandana when doing anything physical. For clothing, he sticks to more casual looks, usually something that he can easily run in if need be. He almost always wears sneakers, regardless of the occasion, and if he's not wearing them, then chances are he's barefoot.

When talking, Naoki has a definite Portuguese accent, along with sounding... well, off. He doesn't enunciate as well as he could, but he has his reasons, so give the guy a break.

Simply put, Naoki is a good-natured individual. Probably helps that he has angelic blood to help in this department. The guy is always smiling and cheerful and does his best to make sure those around him are in a good mood, too. He doesn't like to see others in pain, may they be long-time friends or mere acquaintances. Sometimes he can be a bit too overbearing and will come off as overly protective, though the guy has nothing but good intentions. He was also raised Buddhist and Shinto, thanks to his mother, which has impacted his life and the way he lives it. Naoki does his best to stay anger-free and respects those around him, even nature. He takes pleasure in the simple things in life, like savoring a cup of tea in the morning or meditating underneath a tree during sunset.

There is, however, one thing that Naoki doesn't tolerate, and that's evil deeds. He doesn't understand why people can be so cold for no reason or commit such criminal acts. Sometimes he'll even stand up for someone when they are being a victim to evil, which has put him in more harm than good. On the plus side, it makes him extremely loyal to those he cares about, especially kids. Having grown up with a few younger siblings, he does well around them and knows how to be a good role model.

The best and worst trait for Naoki is that he has a difficult time hiding his feelings. He is always upfront and honest about his emotions and what is going on. The concept of lying is foreign to him and he could never put anyone through that. At the same time, it can be easily used against him. Even if he doesn't say anything, his facial expressions are enough to reveal his true emotions.

Naoki was the eldest of five children born to Misao Kusanagai in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His mother came from a Japanese family that immigrated to Brazil in hopes to live a better life. Sadly, that dream was never achieved by Misao or her family, thus resulting in their permanent home in the slums of the city and supporting her family via working in various luxury resorts as a maid. Naoki never knew his father and only knew that he was some random Brazilian man who took advantage of her and Naoki was the result of that. The rest of his siblings also had various fathers, as well, and only two of them bothered to stick around. Needless to say growing up was never positive thing for the young boy. At the very least, his mother was always loving.

And his mother was also a witch, something that Naoki inherited from her, along with her angelic blood. He learned at a young age that he was capable of magic, though only to protect those around him. The idea of being able to protect his mother and siblings was enough incentive for Naoki to pick up on white magic. Instead of going to school like other kids, Naoki spent his time studying magic from his mother's old spell books and playing on the streets. It always put a smile on his mother's face when she came home to see Naoki passed out after placing a simple ward on a spoon, just because he could.

At the age of seven, one of the fathers in Misao's life was violently murdered by a resident crime gang. It turned out he owed a ridiculous amount of money to the gang and his lack of payment resulted in his death. His debt was then placed upon the closest family member, which happened to be Misao. Fearing for the life of her children, she accepted to slowly pay off her former lover's debt. While she was able to pay off the gang on a weekly basis, the family's lifestyle was starting to deteriorate. Some days passed by where they were lucky to have a loaf a bread to munch on. Once he was old enough, Naoki went to work in order to help out his mother with money. While Misao was against the concept, Naoki was adamant on helping the family survive, and began to work at Copacabana Palace, predominately behind the scenes at the spa.

Sadly for Naoki, this also targeted him for the gang when payment times came around. They loved scaring the young boy into coughing up any extra money he had, though Naoki learned to counter this quickly. He picked up on ways to defend himself against any gang member that cross his path, predominately in parkour and freerunning. Not only was he able to slip away from their clutches, but he was also able to do so without harming anyone. At least once a week, Naoki found himself running for his life on the streets in hopes to escape a gun pointed in his face. His white magic helped, too, and was one way for him to put his abilities to the test.

Over the course of his teenage years and into early adulthood, Naoki remained working in the spa and earning money to help pay off the endless debt. All seemed well in paying off the gang, until all of that crumbled back to nothing. At the age of twenty, Naoki experienced a freak accident in his parkour. While running away from the usual crowd on the rooftops, his timing was off by a hair, resulting in him plummeting several stories to the ground. Thankfully, he managed to live through the scenario, though several things happened in result. The amount of hospitals bills that had to be paid off piled on more debt to the family. And while the money issue was something only long-term, there was another trouble at hand. As a result of the trauma, Naoki had lost a vast amount of his hearing. While operations were available to help him out, the family simply didn't have the money for more medical bills. By the end of the year, Naoki found himself completely deaf, having to rely on reading lips and sign language to communicate. The transition was stressful for him, still is to some extent today, though he managed to cope with it.

Acquiring money became harder over time, even with the help of the other siblings. Naoki eventually decided to take it a step further in helping his family out. Knowing that it was easier to earn money outside of the country, he began to look into leaving Brazil to put his family in a better financial situation. The best way for him to get out of the country was through marriage and he was willing to do that for the good of his family. Naoki placed himself in a program that specialized in supernaturals with hopes that someone would want to marry an angelic white witch. Being one of the few male candidates, Naoki was ridiculed for a while for subjecting himself to such a low, though he didn't have to wait long in comparison to everyone else. He found a companion in Liliya Kennedy, a successful politician who lived in America. Successful vampire politician, but he wasn't keeping track.

Life in America was... different. A good change, though different, nonetheless. Liliya lived far better than Naoki could ever dream of and was generous enough to let him start up his own spa and salon in the area, and even helped finance the beginnings of it. Of course, in exchange she received a good chunk of the income while the rest went to his family, but it was something. Though the two didn't have the picture perfect marriage they painted for the public. Liliya never displayed romantic interest in Naoki, which only pushed the whole loveless marriage thing more, and when she did take an interest in him, it was for a foot massage or his blood. Over time he got used to the young vampire wanting to indulge in his blood, knowing that it soothes her better than he could ever soothe her. Though the whole witch part of him amping up her abilities and making it far easier to make him do what she wants him to do? Yeah, that sucks.

Naoki continued to pose as her perfect husband in public while being her blood doll and money maker behind closed doors. It was difficult for him to be far away from his friends and family, though he knew it was for a good cause. When his family back home would be free of debt was beyond him, but he hopes that he can continue support them beyond that, even if it means he has to be a part from them.

Since the Light of May. It didn't strike a chord with Naoki at all. He was used to being raised as a witch with his wife being a vampire. Also helped that Liliya knew it was going to happen before it even did, so yeah. Granted Liliya had to go through various public speeches regarding the matter, thus requiring his presence, though for the most part, his life hasn't changed. Oh, he also acquired a fluffy American Eskimo dog named Snowball.

Then Naoki received word from his mother back in Brazil after the demon attacks - the Kusanagi family were descendants from an Angel of Hospitality. This only brought more fear into Naoki's life, not wanting to bring harm to those in his life strictly due to what he was, but also worried about his family and not being able to protect them. His kid sister, Rei, has been in the hospital since the first demon attack and he hasn't heard from them since.
