Personality
Once upon a time, Duncan was a typical rugged Scotsman. He was brash. Bold. Arrogant. Stubborn and kind of stupid. It took a long time for that to be undone, and speaking in immortal terms it was centuries. Experience, loss, pain and training by some very patient teachers turned the Highland barbarian into a refined but deadly gentleman. He holds onto some old fashioned morals and beliefs. Ladies should be treated like ladies. There is a definite right from wrong. His view can be very black and white, and he sees nothing wrong with that. Someone in this world has to walk the line, be the hero. All though he would argue that he isn’t a hero even when he’s the first to step in front of someone about to take a bullet. (It helps that the bullet won’t kill him, he’d say.) He doesn’t approve of gray areas and doesn’t hold back a judgmental comment. He feels immortals have an obligation to humanity to be guides, teachers, examples. When he learns of one of them taking advantage of their immortality to the detriment of normal humans he is the first one to step in. No questions asked.
Duncan is also a romantic. He’s had many lovers through the ages, and even after losing them doesn’t shy away from involvement. Just as with his enemies, he makes his feelings clear when he finds someone to care about. Usually, his affections have been given to mortals. He protects them, treats them like gold but doesn’t treat them like children. History has proven that Duncan is decidedly heterosexual, but he has no prejudices.
He is a staunch friend. Duncan doesn’t give his loyalty easily, but once he does you can always rely on and turn to him when in need. His friendship is easy going, comfortable. But he expects his friendship and trust not to be taken for granted. Betrayal and lies are not something he tolerates, and doesn’t forgive easily.
