BIOGRAPHY
History.
The Martins were a big family, from a line of big families. Lexi ended up smack in the middle, two siblings on either side of her in birth order. In a house with five kids, she tended to fade into the background noise. She passed her classes, helped her younger sister and brother with their school work, did her chores. The only trend she dodged was becoming a troublemaker to get her parent's attention. Even her power, when it manifested, was helpful. No poison ivy for the family anymore, no allergic reactions to panic about with Lexi around. They saved a pretty penny in medical care, between her ability and her big brother's healing hands.
After a year of hemming and hawing, Lexi picked a community college with a plan to take care of her prerequisites and then transfer to a state college. In all her infinite wisdom, Lexi chose to become an English major. Lexi thought it'd be cool to travel the world, find a place she liked and get a gig teaching English there.
After graduating, she picked up freelance work with various news and entertainment sites, a day job downtown the steadier source of income. Feelers stayed out for chances to travel, and when a friend from school invited Lexi to her California wedding, she happily accepted. She invited her girlfriend, who agreed to make it a cross-country drive instead of a flight.
Halfway to California, the world ended. Lexi was napping in the backseat. Her girlfriend vanished, as did most other humans on the highway around their car. It was the first impact that woke Lexi, and the second that put her back to sleep.
Mercifully, a group found her among the wreckage, and transported the unconscious Lexi to Breckenridge for medical aide. That was where she woke, and where Lexi learned of what happened. The great decimation, the riots and looting, the feral animals.
After processing everything, and pinching herself a few times, Lexi answered questions from those taking charge. She ran them down on her skills, her needs, and after gentle prodding from
an Empath
, her power.
When she was cleared to leave her hospital room, Lexi settled into the apartment assigned her, and agreed to her assigned tasks. She isn't sure if she should mourn anyone or not - there's no definite proof the absence is permanent - or that it means death. For a time, she was just in a holding patter. Then she met Margo. There were sparks right away, in spite of communication challenges. It made Lexi consider more than just drifting.
Wouldn't it figure, that was when everything was upended again. On the first of August, she shifted from her new home in Colorado and into a field. Used to things going crazy in a moment, Lexi figured at least this time she was conscious when it happened.
There was a greeting squad, like in Colorado. She was given yet another rundown of her new situation, and put up in an inn until her own personal living quarters appeared. It reminds her of her little place back home in New York, but misplaced in time with a view of a castle. Just little differences.
Her ability isn't as required these days, less in the way of mysterious infections threatening everyone at every moment. She'll use it when needed, or requested, but she's actually got a chance to teach here, and is snapping up the chance. Losing Margo sucked, but she's got her health and probably her sanity. She'll carry on, like she always does.
Personality.
Friendly, approachable, a bit awkward but can laugh at herself. She enjoys dad joke level humor, and talking books, movies, music - all that great pre-decimation fun. Anyone with stories of traveling is probably going to find an eager ear in Lexi.
She's not processed the decimation, and seems to be carrying on as though things are hunky dory. Lexi isn't keen on talking loss, making light when the subject comes up.
ABILITY
Can intuit/sense impurities in others. This includes but is not limited to*: intoxicants, radiation sickness, poison, infection and cancerous bodies. The closer they are, the stronger the sensation.
However, she has to make physical contact to purge a body, and the more flushed a body is, the more taxing it is on Lexi.
Technically she could purge a dead body, but she's not been asked to actually do that, yet.
She cannot use this power on an inanimate object - such as a building or clothing.
As a lucky knock-on effect, Lexi is immune to what she can flush from others.
*because I'm only human and may forget to list something reasonable she could pick up on
