THIRD PERSON WRITING SAMPLE (IE: THREAD/LOG): Crystal placed the last of the boxes in the attic and looked around. Memories of her grandparents were all stored up here - not because she wanted to get them out of the way but they were things that they didn't need right now. Mark and her already went through the bulk of things and sold it off and the plans of remodeling parts of the home were in the works.
Walking over to the ladder that lead down, she turned off the light and the shadows seemed to come alive in an instant. Standing there for a moment letting it cradle around her like a mother would to a newborn babe. She still didn't quiet understand what she was capable of doing. It didn't seem that useful only when she just wanted to seemingly disappear from her problems. And the research she did do on her powers turned to be fruitless in the least. Opening her eyes, Crystal headed down the ladder and put it away, closing the hole to the attic.
Crystal made her way down the stairs towards one of the spare bedrooms where she turned it into her arts and crafts room. She still had some orders to fulfill and even if she should be cleaning out the rest of the house, Crystal couldn't bring herself to do much more of that for the day. As she was about to sit down there was a knock on the door. "What now?" She said outloud and made her way to the front door.
Opening it she was greeted by a delivery person with flowers. "Delivery for Miss Day?" Crystal nodded, signed for the flowers before taking them and closing the door behind her. Another reminder that her birthday was just around the corner. Looking at the card and again it was signed by "J", "You are persistent aren't you Mr. J." Setting the flowers on the table nearby, she would put them in water later but for now she had some orders to fill.
FIRST PERSON WRITING SAMPLE (IE: JOURNAL ENTRY): Boston has not changed much in the last ten or so years. I wonder if anyone will prove me wrong.
character NAME: Crystal Day NICKNAMES/ALIASES: Criss AGE / DATE OF BIRTH: 26 / January 6th GENDER: Female SPECIES: Gifted Human PLAYED BY: Imogen Poots SEXUALITY: Heterosxual RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Single PLACE OF BIRTH: Boston, MA PLACE OF RESIDENCE: Boston, MA OCCUPATION: DIY Crafter
POWERS: Umbrakinesis: ability to mentally generate and manipulate darkness, the absence of light. The downside of her powers is that she is much more comfortable in the dark. The bright lights actually hurts her eyes and usually causes headaches. Wearing sunglasses helps defers that headaches while she is outside.
APPEARANCE: Crystal stands at 5'6" and weights about 138lbs. She has long wavy/cruly hair that is dark blond. She does wear makeup but doesn't over do it - usually focusing around her blue eyes that make them pop even more. Crystal likes to wear comfortable clothes, jeans, t-shirt and boots. Rarely would she put on a dress and if she does it means she hasn't done laundry in a while or she is modeling it off so she can take pictures and put it on her website to sell off. Most of her clothes she had made herself. Crystal does have a small star tattooed on her wrist - there is no special meaning for it. Just that she was went out one day and got it.
PERSONALITY: Crystal is prefers to be alone than in a crowd of people. This stems to what happened to her as a young teenager and that the fact people are exhausting in general. But this doesn't mean she hates people. She is quite friendly and does enjoy company occasionally - just rather not large ones. She is quite caring and compassionate when it comes to those she is close too. She does not think highly of herself and often has self doubt. Often will back down in a conversation if it becomes too heated or it upsets another person. Crystal is going through the process of trying to forgive those who bullied her when she was younger - one of them seems remorseful as he sends her flowers and a card every year for her birthday. Her therapist knows she tends to bottle up her feelings and write them down but will not confront them to a person - something she is working on.
HISTORY: 1. Crystal was born to Arnold and Sally and was the second child. Arnold walked out on Sally when she was 8 months pregnant for an ex-girlfriend leaving the single mother of two to go back to living with her parents. Crystal was born a month later and she was looked after by her grandparents for the first few months of her life. There is no doubt that Sally loved her new baby but her depression grew worse after the pregnancy which turned into postnatal depression. With some therapy, Sally eventually came around months later with her act together. Sally got a job as an office assistant while she tried to bond with Crystal for the lost time.
2. Crystal loved her childhood but she was a shy girl. With her mother getting the help she needed and grandparents able to watch Crystal during the daylight hours, there was nothing more she needed. It was going to school that was the toughest. Her shyness hinder her from making friends but she did find solace in making crafts - jewelry, artwork, even sewing. Her grandmother taught her how to make her own clothing - which resulted in a lot of teasing from other students for some reason or another.
3. Their mother remarried when Crystal was 13 years old. He was a nice enough guy and treated the kids fairly. Crystal ended moving into their house shortly after. However, that didn't stop Crystal from experimenting with different pills. It became harder to get ahold of pills as she wasn't at her grandparents place anymore - but she would steal a few when she visited. It was a different feeling with have a 'dad' around who tried his best to be a good step-dad to Crystal but she was a teenager who was rebellious and fought everything.
4. She was able to make a few friends in art class but the teasing continued in high school. It was during this time, her older brother Mark, became aware of this and tried to help. Crystal started to smoke pot and popping pills with her friends, most of them also victims of bullying. This was something that her brother did not know as Crystal tried her hardest - the pot he might had known of but not the pills.
5. Her lament powers activated after a particularly rough day at school. The bullying had died down as there were other victims but she had accidentally touched one of the popular girls. She was teased to the point where Crystal ran into the girls room to get away from it all - not even bothering turning on the lights. The girls followed of course and then something triggered. Even when the girls tried to turn on the lights it didn't work - the darkness seemed to just take over. There was screaming and it was over - when the teachers came into investigate Crystal was found in the last stall shaking. The girls stopped bothering her but could hear the whispers they were spreading about her.
6. It seemed that things were looking up more after that and Crystal and her small group of friends were more or less left alone. They caught wind of a party and it was one of the members of the group that convinced the others they should go - especially since the member of that party was on good terms with the person hosting it. Crystal agreed, maybe it would be fun. But no it was not. She had a few beers when Judson Gray tried to put the moves on her. Crystal declined and when he turned aggressive she kneed him in the balls and left the party. She was already tipsy and woke up on a strangers front porch.
When she went to school later that day she was confronted Jud whom she had kicked earlier and apparently he had pictures - and then proceeded to tell the entire school that she had slept with him. Even his friends joined in on the mocking and calling her names. It went on for two days and it got to the point where she was being physically attacked by other girls - it also didn't help that her powers were also going out of control. Unable to deal with it she took her entire stash of pills hoping to make the pain go away. Her brother found her before it was too late and she was rushed to the hospital. If it was another hour or two she wouldn't had made it. To her surprise, Judson actually visited her at the hospital. Crystal couldn't take it and started to cry again the pain was still fresh and he left the flowers with a card and left.
7. Crystal was pulled out of school and sent upstate New York to one of the hospitals for suicided watch. The pain was still there but it was a different kind - from the shadows. She found confront in them but they also frightened her. She told her brother what was going on when he visited. At first he didn't believe her until she showed him what he could do. After that he tried to get her out of there but she couldn't be released until the doctors said she was okay and could leave. For two years Crystal was inside and all the while she received flowers with a note. At first she would just toss them in the garbage but when she was released on her birthday she got the card and flower again she kept them.
8. Crystal didn't want to return to her life back in Boston and instead moved in with her brother who had moved to New York. She got her GED but spent most of her days trying to learn more about her powers. She was feeling better than she had ever felt and was kind of glad to have stopped smoking weed and popping pills. Crystal did continue her therapy with a therapist who urged her to go to college or at least start up her crafting again. Instead of college, Crystal decided to focus on her love for crafting. She started to sell pieces of jewelry at the local art fairs and eventually opened up her own website.
9. When Crystal was 25 years old, her grandfather passed away. It hit the family hard and she eventually returned back to Boston to be with her family. It was the first time she was back in the city in over 10 years. Her grandmother was moved to a nursing home as she was unable to care for herself and left the home to Crystal. Several months later her grandmother joined the grandfather in the afterlife. It was sudden and it shook the entire family. Crystal's brother stayed with her at the grand parents home as they went through the things that was left to them. They sold off some of it and stored the rest. The house was left to them both but Crystal decided it was time to stay in Boston and not be afraid of what had happened in the past. With some of the money she inherited from her grandparents, both siblings decided to update the house in case they want to sell it in the future but in the mean time Crystal would live there.
10. It had only been a couple of months since Crystal had returned and another birthday with another set of flowers and cards. It was a different feeling especially since she was back in her childhood hometown. Still she wouldn't let the past haunt her as she continues to work on her growing DIY business. The one thing that did change was her therapist and she was recommended one that was close instead of driving hours to see her old one. The only difficulty was and is controlling her powers - she has no control as they seem to be always connected to her emotions.
