Good PR and bad PR
Project Runway
I know Rami was the judges' pet early on and they praised his draping like there was no tomorrow, but I have to say, I've always hated the way he drapes boobs. He makes what looks to be pouches that are horribly unattractive on any woman with anything even resembling a chest. His first dress? My first reaction was "hey, it's a toga!" His latest effort just really brought it home to me that I don't want him in the finale.

Which brings me to my problem: I really don't want any of them in the finale.

The only one whose collection I think could be really interesting is Christian's, and though I've actually learned to enjoy seeing him on the show (let's face it, he's the only one who consistently brings some fun into the show, even if he comes across as horribly conceited), I still don't like his clothes all that much.

I'm pretty much scared of what Chris might put on the runway, Jillian I'm mostly meh about, even if hers is probably the esthetic I like the best, and Sweet P... Well, I never feel like I can trust her style. I really liked last week's denim dress (and felt that she really should have won, because I think the judges mostly just gave it to Ricky because they were surprised that they liked anything of his), but this week was just pretty damn bad. And my problem pretty much started and ended with that fabric. There's no way in hell to make anything that looks good in that fabric, and when you know from the outset that the outfit is going to be trashy, picking that fabric is just a monumental mistake.

I guess the problem is that I'm just not excited to see what any of these people might put on the runway. With the possible exception of any coats that Jillian might make, because that black coat she made in the pairs challenge was fierce. Fiercer than anything Christian's made, that's for sure.

Oh, and hey, this is Fashion Week, so I guess it would be possible to spoil myself for the final three should I want to... Hmmm, probably not, but once we're down to the final three, it's possible I'll take a look at the collections.

Atonement
The problem with waiting so long to watch a movie that so many LJers like is that you're inevitably spoiled to some degree. From the comments of the "surprising ending" I've seen flung about, I gathered pretty much right away that Robbie would die, but Cee's (C's?) death did come as a surprise. Strangely enough, I actually liked it more than if he alone had died.

Also, the cinematography was droolworthy and I already capped the first 30 minutes late last night, but I haven't gotten a chance to get back to it today. I think the war won't generate as many caps as the early part did, which is a good thing because I'm already at 500+ caps for 30 minutes. That would mean about 2000 caps total if I capped the whole thing so fastidiously. But, like I said, I probably won't.

For the longest time, I've been pulling for NBC. They're the underdogs of the big four, they seem to be more willing than most to foster good shows and they do have some great programming. They're pretty much the only network that I've ever felt some modicum of affection for (with ABC and CBS I just don't care and with FOX there's outright hate), but during the writer's strike they've erroded that goodwill and the last bits crumbled today when I read that they sacked the entire writing staff of Days of Our Lives. Wow, what TOOLS.
