And while we're on the subject of OTPs and 'ships, there's something I've been thinking about for a while.

OTP = One True Pairing, right? So to me, that means that there is only one person another person belongs with. If I say that Mulder/Scully is my OTP, that naturally precludes me from having Mulder/Krychek as my OTP. It does not, however, mean that I can't 'ship either person with someone else, temporarily wanting to see them with another person (though I never do. I don't mind my OTPs being with other people, but I rarely go "YAY, JUST WHAT I WANTED TO SEE!" For me, one or the other of my pairing being with someone else is only important in the context of what it means for my OTP. I know, I'm boring).

But in the end, I want my OTP to end up together. And when I say that, I don't mean I want them to have millions of babies and live happily ever after and never even so much as glance away from the depths of their beloved's cerulean/chocolate brown/hazel eyes!!11!eleventy!11!! It simply means that when I think about them in the future, I always think of them together. Or I don't think of them much at all. (When I say "think" here, I basically mean "find myself curious enough about a certain aspect to find fic to satisfy my craving".)

Other people seem to use OTP and 'ship interchangeably, but I just don't understand that. Sure, an OTP is a 'ship, but a 'ship doesn't have to be an OTP.

As for 'ships, I'm still usually pretty monogamous, but I'm less monomaniacal. Take Willow/Oz, for instance. I like them together, and I pretty much imagine them running into each other on the streets of Istanbul one day. However, when Willow was with Tara, I didn't see their relationship only in terms of what it meant for Willow/Oz. (Of course, I found their dynamic pretty dull and didn't think about them much at all.)

There's also a non-romantic element to certain 'ships that doesn't exist in OTPs, which are alsways relationships of the romantic variety. Like Liz/Jack, for instance. I love the two of them together, want scenes of them together, enjoy their chemistry and banter, but I NEVER EVER want to read a fic about them "doing the deed". *shudders* I can think about it in vague terms, but explicitly? No thanks!

Oh man, I was really out of it last night when I posted the picspam (no wonder, it was 4.30 am). I forgot an entire panel! And I even removed the network logos from the caps and everything (from PLAID! Plaid is evil), but then I forgot! And now it just seems silly to go back and add it.
