You just can't buy publicity like that
I tend to think of How I Met Your Mother as a very low-key show, one that's dismissed in the minds of large parts of the viewing public and loved ferociously by large parts of fandom. So imagine my surprise when a story pops up on my BBC News syndication about the show. So I go to check out the article. It's okay now, but this is what it looked like when I first saw it. Good thing I remembered to take a screenshot.

Which brings me to the second part of this post: Extensions. I made the above screenshot with one of my favorite new finds: FireShot

  • Addictive Typing Lessons. I haven't installed this on my new computer yet, and I'm not sure I want to. I don't tend to be a very fast typist (I think I average about 65 words/minute), and I also find that I don't really need to be in most cases. I need the time it takes me to type something to either figure out a) what I'm going to say, or b) how I'm going to translate it. Plus, I kinda need typing lessons that includes the Swedish characters å, ä and ö because those are the most awkwardly placed ones.

  • Add-ons Sidebar. This would work wonders if only I could access it! I love the idea, so I'm not ready to call it quits quite yet, but the inability to access the extension from anything other than the keyboard command Ctrl+Shift+E is just not working for me since I already have TWO other extensions that use that very command (Dog Ears and Web Developer).

  • Clines. It's a game, because I wanted something fun I could play as a distraction. This fit the bill. I first tried Xultris, the extension version of Tetris, but when you've been playing Tetris on a Gameboy for the past few years, computer versions feel cumbersome and non-responsive. So that one's going in the trash.

  • FireShot. The official explanation says it best: Adds the ability to take a screenshot of web page (entire of [sic] visible part), edit it, add annotations and upload to server, save (PNG, JPEG, BMP), copy to clipboard, send to external editor or e-mail it. What I love most about it is the fact that it takes a screenshot of the entire page, but for the screenshot of the article above I also tried out both the internal and external editor (which was defaulted to Paint, BTW) and both worked fine, though the internal editor was much better.

  • Organize Search Engines. I used to not add more search engines unless I absolutely NEEDED it, because the list I had already ran off the page. But with this I can separate them into folders and add as many as I want! Only the most commonly used ones are folder-less.

  • PageZoom. Haven't used this much, but since I use the Image Zoom an awful lot, I figured it couldn't hurt to have this too.

  • Stop Autoplay. I almost always open links from my flist in new background tabs, so I hate YouTube's autoplay function with a fiery passion! This adds an extra element before it plays, sure, but it's worth it not to have to experience the aggravation of three videos starting to play at once because you've opened a bunch of videos for viewing later.

  • Tab Scope. Offers a pop-up of the contents of a tab when you hover over it. I've quickly become addicted to this, which is great when used in conjunction with the Faviconize Tab extension, but I don't know how well it works on computers which aren't as fast as my new one (quad-core processor, baby!)

  • View Source Chart. For viewing the html of web pages. Not exactly for everyday use, but useful occassionally.

  • YouPlayer. Has an internal player, allows you to create playlists of YouTube videos (which can also work as a sort of bookmarking thing. I know I never remember to bookmark particularly awesome vids so I always have to go look for them again every time I want to watch/link them. No more!) and also allows you do download the videos directly from the playlist by right-clicking on them and choosing "Download". Unfortunately, while it does support some other sites, imeem isn't one of them.

I didn't post for over a week and now I've posted three times in two days? CRAZY!
