bedroom floor  First of all, I found my bedroom floor! Every time I've thought about what I wanted for my bedroom, it's always been this exact grayish brown color, and off-white walls. I can't believe I actually found it! Of course, the site doesn't have prices and I can just imagine how much this'll cost me. Ouch! (possible alternatives should the above not work out)   The color on the wall will be what we usually refer to as "Stockholm white", or "antique white". It's an off-white color, tending towards grey. You can see it in this picture:  It's the color of the wall behind the table. You can use the pure white border at the top as a reference. kitchen Next came the kitchen, of which I made a couple of different plans. I'm finding it very difficult to accomodate the things I want: American fridge (with ice machine), built-in oven and microwave. May not sound like it should be all that difficult, but I just can't get it to work. First, American fridge version (birch cabinets):  In this one, the stove is too close to the sink (70 cm instead of the required 80).  It fits, but it's tight. However, there is no water on that wall, meaning the cost of getting the ice machine working might be prohibitive.  This is designed using the current layout of my kitchen and would mean the least amount of structural work. Next, regular fridge/freezer, white cabinets): If I were to change the closets in my bedroom to take up the entire wall, but only be 35 cm deep, I could get two straight walls down the side. Smaller kitchen, yes, but possibly easier to work with?   The fridge and freezer are behind the two doors underneath the counter, which solves my counter space problem (as in: I have none). [Please to be disregarding the bit of birch in the corner, I forgot to change it.]  Biggest problem here? The stove, while being far enough from the sink, is right next to the side of a full-size cabinet. Also a big no-no! The top drawer of the lower cabinet next to the stove contains an ironing board! One of my favorite things about this kitchen! Another favorite is the roll-front cabinet, which is great for hiding electrical appliances, like toasters, food processors, waffle irons, blenders, electric handmixers, etc, etc, etc. And the best part is that you can put electrical outlets in the cabinet and never have to even see the electrical cords! The one thing I haven't tried (yet), is the version where I put the stove and ovens on the shorter wall, then have an American fridge right next to the window. I'm just not sure it's wise to have the kind of set-up where you have to carry hot pans to the sink across a floor... Of course, after all this work, it looks like I'll probably start my Grand Summer Redecorating Project with the bathroom. I have no clue what I want! I've always favored blue tiles, but every time I actually go looking at blue tiles, I can never find anything I like. |
So, aside from the two Ally McBeal episodes I capped and the half a season of Avatar that I watched (half a book that I watched? Sounds bizarre), that's pretty much how I spent my weekend. *g*
