I eschew daily updates for mega-long posts no one in their right mind has the patience to read
So, I'd pretty much decided on the eReader I was going to get (the iLiad Book Edition, in case you're curious), and then I saw that Fujitsu's FLEPia was coming out in Japan this month, and the entire rational side of my brain shut down and the materialistic whore side of my brain kicked in and went: WANT! Holy crap, 260 000 colors!

Of course after reading up on it some more, I realized I'd have to wait a pretty long while to get it anyway, and it only supports ebook formats popular in Japan (not to mention the Japanese operating system), so I'm back to my original choice. But believe you me, I'm getting me one of those color ones as soon as they're available here.

Even though I'm thinking about a few pretty substantial purchases, I'm still fairly confident I can pay off my credit card debt by mid-June, when I get my tax refund, as I had intended. Mostly because pretty much the entire cost of the eReader will be paid for by the difference between the amount I expected to get in return, and the amount I'm actually getting. Woohoo, I love tax refund time! Now I just have to stick to my payment schedule until then and all will be copasetic.

A new law went into effect here on April 1, making it possible for copyright holders to obtain the personal data behind an IP address, so I'm treading carefully at the moment (and by that I mean that I haven't been using torrents. But other venues? Oh yeah!). Everything I've read about so far concerns books (audio), music and film, and I kind of can't imagine there's interest in pursuing the TV aspect of things, but I guess you can never know.

It's interesting to note that in the days since the law went into effect, internet traffic in Sweden has decreased by about 30%. That's a lot of downloading! And none of that decrease came from me. In fact, I've probably been downloading more than usual since I was on my last few days of downloading video files for work - all 400 GB's worth!

My guess? Traffic will go back up in the coming weeks, and within a few months, it'll be back at the same level that it was before.

I joined [info]farscaperewatch, but the one-episode-a-week thing probably won't work for me. I mean, that's almost two years! I'll have rewatched the show a couple of times by then. But I did figure it'll be fun to follow along since I was never in the fandom the first time around. I'll probably pick up my last rewatch where I left off, at the beginning of season 3, instead.

In other TV news:

Dollhouse
This has become a completely different show in the last three episodes. In this last one, my heart hurt for Sierra when she was confronting the man who did this to her. And I'm full of rage, because no matter what they say about them coming there willingly, she didn't. Some guy didn't get what he wanted, so he decided to make her his play thing. And they could very well send her back to him! I'm getting all rage-y just thinking about it. And feeling sick to my stomach. It's not a fun combo, but at least it shows how invested I am.

Victor keeps growing on me. And in this episode, I kept giggling at how he's Xander - he retained his military knowledge! Oh Joss, never change! Oh, except you could make him less of a condescending, insecure prick.

Strangely, I cared very little for November's dead!child trauma. I mean, of the ones there, pretty much the only ones I believe actually entered into it "willingly" (because I don't think for a second that they knew the extent of what they'd be doing, even if they actually did want to escape their traumas) are November and Victor, and of the two, November's reasoning seems to be the most clichéd and unimaginative.

Caroline and Echo still bore me. Idealism - and misplaced idealism at that (going back in for the others? What. The. Fuck?!) - just isn't something that works for me. (That's probably why early seasons Buffy didn't resonate with me - too black and white. I much prefer her various shades of gray in the latter seasons.)

Castle
I thought this show would be dumped immediately, but as it turns out, Nathan Fillion's charm is enough to shore up an entire show. Who knew?! Despite the predictability, it's making me happy, so this one stays on my schedule until its inevitable cancellation in May.

Project Runway Canada
I was really pissed last week, when two people I felt had gone home on some pretty solid reasoning, were let back in in favor of tossing out someone whose only fault was getting stuck with the wrong partner. Seriously, Genvieve was always a one trick pony, and Jason was mediocre at best. Kim and Adejoké should have lost the contest, but Genvieve and Jason should have been in second place, not shared first (what a crock!), and then Kim should have gone home in this challenge.

Also, Shawn Hewson is getting on my very last nerve. (I probably spelled his name wrong there, but TOUGH! I'm too annoyed with him to bother finding out how to spell it correctly.) I thought it was insanely obvious that Genvieve's slip was a cop out because it's freaking HARD to make proper undergarments (something we've seen before on PR, especially the underwear challenge in season 2, where hardly a single pair of panties fit correctly!), and he's all gushy that she managed to make what is pretty much the same dress as she's made in every single challenge, only shorter?! SHUT UP! I hope they replace him next year.

Sunny's my favorite to win, and I like that he's gotten a bit more vocal and in-your-face lately, because he's also funny. Unlike the previous talkers, who were under the mistaken impression that they were better designers than they actually were.

The Amazing Race
I didn't even realize how happy it made me to see Mike and Mel on the race until they were booted. =( Now who's going to entertain me? I can't bring myself to root for any of the teams, they're all boring me to bits.

How I Met Your Mother
Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like they haven't gotten anything done this season? I don't want to say that the show's boring me, because I am quite entertained with every episode, but I also forget about it immediately afterward. There's no arc, there's no driving force behind it (except for possibly Barney falling in love, but even that is just the driving force for HIM. None of the other characters feel like they're going anywhere).

I have to admit, the show doesn't have to be more than it is right now, and I'll still tune in and be entertained each week. But I miss the obsession from last season.

Southland
Well, that was sure depressing. I'm sorry, but I need a bit more escapism in my entertainment, and this was just wall-to-wall realism, with a dash of the-ugly-truth tossed in. Pretty much the only painfully realistic show I've ever taken to is The Wire, I can't see this being another exception to the rule.

Everyone and their mother posted about The Sarah Connor Chronicles this weekend, and since I haven't seen a single episode since the season premiere, I thought I'd make that the next show I catch up on.

I spent a ridiculous amount of time on this icon considering how simple it is. And it's still not right! But I'm past the point of caring. So I uploaded the new stuff to my Scrapbook.
