Current mood:working (well, I should be)

Bored now or boring now?
After nearly three days of sloth, I'm feeling very sluggish today. And it's not like work would be a chore since I'm translating Conan with Clive Owen and Alan Alda today, and yet I can't get moving. I spent the morning doing administrative things and have managed to translate something like 50 words on top of that.

And my productivity is not helped by the fact that my Becoming Jane DVD arrived in the mail earlier today. I wanna waaaaatch! /whine

I went to the movies on Saturday. We only meant to catch one movie, but when we arrived at the theater we saw that there was a sneak preview of The Bourne Identity (it's not premiering until this Friday), so we decided on a double feature.

Fracture
I guess this would have been an okay film, except for the fact that I figured out where the murder weapon was pretty much right away, so I spent about an hour finding everyone (mostly Gosling) stupid.

Plus, the whole "it isn't double jeopardy if you get charged for murder instead of attempted murder" played out kinda stupidly. I mean, if you're a lawyer - a prosecutor, no less - shouldn't that be a no-brainer and not something you have to spend hours researching?

Okay, the more I think about this movie, the more I'm leaning towards "it's just stupid".

The Bourne Identity was a fun ride, but from what I can recall of the books, it didn't even remotely resemble the last of the trilogy. Actually, aside from the basic premise, I don't think any of them have. Of course, it's been so long since I read them that I may be completely off the mark there. Especially since I think I'm getting them mixed up somewhat with Tom Clancy's oeuvre.

However, Bourne actually prompted me to send a complaint about the translation for the first time ever. I wouldn't have bothered if it wasn't for the fact that the movie hadn't been released, and my complaint might actually prevent the vast majority of the viewing audience to grit their teeth at peppers being translated into pepper, having to see Neil spelled as Neal throughout the entire movie (even in the subtitle translating an on-screen document that clearly reads "Neil") and being told that 1000 yards equals 300 meters, which... No, it really doesn't.

I've rewatched the first half of Friday Night Lights (and I think I'm now caught up to where I stopped watching last season), and...

I'm no longer as bothered by the shaking camera as I was the first time around (though I still think it feels kinda artificial, but having just seen a promo for The Kingdom, I've just come to realize that's Peter Berg's style), and at least the cinematography is pretty in other respects.

I think my main reasons for not continuing to watch were Matt Saracen and Tim Riggins. For completely opposite reasons.

Saint Matt didn't make me feel as uneasy this time around (probably because I no longer think he's going to be a favorite of mine), which is good.

However, Riggins... If possible, I think I dislike him even more this time around. I honestly do not understand why this character has fans. I just can't sympathize or even like any aspect of him.

It's weird, because I've forgiven characters much worse things, and it's started me thinking about what characteristics I look for in a character (particularly a male character) and I've come to the conclusion that it's a combination of snark, a certain twisted joie de vivre, fierce loyalty and the ability to love deeply.

Apart from that last one, Tim Riggins fails epically at meeting my criteria. I think I'm just going to embrace the hate and see if that works, because so far he's ruining my enjoyment of the show. Again.

However, Street, Landry, the Taylors and the football (I KNOW!) is enough to keep me watching until the end of the season. After that, who knows? I might fall in love completely or decide it's not worth it.

I haven't forgotten about the request icons, by the way, I just spent the last couple of weeks overwhelmed by work and when I finally got some time to work on icons I felt like I'd lost my mojo.

Oh, and I keep forgetting to thank whoever sent me the anonymous v-gift, so thank you!
