And not.2008-07-23T18:36:37Z2008-07-23T18:36:37ZSo, this latest fandom debacle finally got me to read up more on OTW, and now I can't wait for this thing to get off the ground!

I truly love the idea of having some other place than LiveJournal where I can follow an author's work, I can't tell you how many stories I've lost track of simply because I didn't feel like friending the author and reading all their OTHER stuff.

And the fact that archives needn't be lost, just because the maintainer has lost interest in the fandom and no longer feels like shelling out money for it when it could go towards other, more worthwhile (to them), pursuits.

And of course, that got me thinking about what I could contribute to the archive. I think I make a contribution to fandom, but I'm not sure if it's one that works within the context of the site.

Take picspams, for example. I think some are major contributions to fandom. Just a few examples would be Steph's recent Motels of Supernatural picspams, or the Winchester Clothing Catalog, or how about the classic crossover picspams: Doctor Who vs Titanic and Ten vs. Mal? Or how about winter_baby's HIMYM PS3?

But the point of putting them up in the archive would be so that they wouldn't be lost if the creator let their web site lapse, or let their LJ account return to basic status (did you all hear about basic accounts being reinstated, btw?), or WHATEVER. Therefore, the images would have to be hosted locally, which would put unfair strain on the server, especially if users were allowed to upload picspams willy-nilly.

I'm just kinda wondering how something like that could be handled? Maybe a picspam committee that would evaluate each picspam based on the amount of work put in and what the contribution to the fandom in question would be. (I'd totally volunteer for that job!)

I finally figured out how to cap on my new computer (I kinda had to figure it out, my old computer was dying by degrees), and it was as simple as using an older version of PowerDVD. So I've done just a tiiiiny bit of capping. More to come, though.

Bones
1x17 - The Skull in the Desert

Pushing Daisies
1x04 - Pigeon

In other news, I've been looking around the icon communities, trying to get inspired (which hasn't worked, FYI, my main inspiration right now remains BLUE), and I noticed this meme going around, and I'd love it if you'd participate:

Tell me your Top Ten of my icons.

(You can find the recent ones here. Old icons are in my tags. Feel free to link directly.)
