personality | |
Positive Traits: Independent, can be extremely compassionate if the need arises (which it does almost daily in her line of work), not squeamish (again, attributed to her line of work), open-minded, friendly Negative Traits: becomes withdrawn around the beginning of every March (Justin's birthday), can get slightly rowdier than she intends while out having a good time, impulsive, has a short fuse Social Persona: Jynx has always been more rough-and-tumble than she has been dainty or feminine. With her mother passing away when she was three, one can hardly hold it against her. She has a tendency to be outspoken and feels more at home in a smokey bar than she does window shopping down Main Street. With her job shifts changing constantly depending on the amount of people kicking the bucket in any given week, it's not unusual to see her out and about at all different hours of the day and night. |
Favorites Color: Neon anything against black Food: pepperoni- on pizza, on sandwiches, by itself Ice Cream: Superman Drink: Vanilla milkshakes Smell: Coffee first thing in the morning Animal: Zebra Music: Anything other than classical is tolerable. If it's not, well a few drinks can fix that. Season: Fall |

history | |
Her nickname was first used by her mother in a joking fashion, and it just stuck. Her father wasn’t the best speller in the world so when he was teaching her how to write her name it ended up as Jynx instead of Jinx, but it was easier for him to do than Jocalyn without having to pull her birth certificate down from the closet shelf. As for the misspelling it’s never really been questioned or cared about by the girl. It just is. One might ask where her mother was in all of this if they didn’t know her but, sadly, she passed away after an extremely difficult labor with Justin, the youngest member of the Nixon family. What her father lacked in spelling, and other forms of needed school help, he made up for in carpentry. He couldn’t tell you how to spell gazebo but he could build you a damn good one that wouldn’t collapse under a few strong gusts of wind. That was how he made a living and raised both children. He’d have liked one of them to take over the family business one day but both had other plans. Jynx went off to college first, starting in medical school to be a pediatrician and realizing part way through how much she really disliked kids. She later changed her degree focus and finished with her certifications to be a certified mortuary technician. While she was busy learning how to deal with the dead, her brother was on a completely different end of the spectrum and was busy working his way through the Dentistry program. Eight years ago, roughly three months after his twenty-first birthday, Justin disappeared. While she wasn’t old enough to really grieve for her mother, Jynx was plenty old enough for it to hurt when his status changed from ‘probably fucking off with friends’ to legitimately just gone. Posters went up in local businesses of the surrounding area, the police said they’d search even though that was probably a crock of shit to make their family and friends feel better, but not even the tiniest trace was ever found. Eventually it became all but unbearable to frequent the same old haunts and never see her brother’s familiar face appear in the crowd. Despite what people said, she knew he wasn’t dead. The day her father mentioned a faux-funeral was the day Jynx packed her things in the car and just went, driving until she felt like she could finally breathe again. She’d ended up somewhere in Georgia for the night. When she later started reconstructing her life, she got a place in Savannah. Why not? The culture was entertaining, the people just as interesting, and the city held plenty of job opportunities for her. |
