HISTORY
Five life-defining moments which have made your character who they are today.
Big Brother:
Kingsley was born into the Shacklebolt family. The Shacklebolts were pureblood and of the Sacred 28, however, such claims were of little interest. His parents valued loyalty, friendship and honesty, and distilled in their children a sense of personal pride and desire to work hard to succeed. Both his parents worked at the Ministry at reasonably well-paying jobs; Kingsley's childhood was luxurious but it was happy and filled with love. He has one sibling, Nariah, whom he has doted upon since her birth. At first, he was disappointed not to have a brother, but upon reflection, he knows he wouldn't be the man he is today without his sister putting him in his place whenever necessary. If she were a boy, he probably wouldn't have listened.
Hogwarts:
Kingsley was sorted into Hufflepuff, where he made firm friends, including fellow future-Auror Alastor Moody. Kingsley was academically bright, and he excelled at anything he put his mind to. He was well-liked by most, however, his academic success and popularity gained him some rivals. These rivalries were exacerbated by his complete nonchalance and unwillingness to get dragged into pettiness and fruitless competition. He never started fights, but he was also not the sort to back down if provoked. As such he often tussled with the wrong people, namely those who came from wealth and power - and incidentally a lot of the same people he would spend his professional life chasing.
DMLE induction and Lorelei:
Upon Graduation, Kingsley was accepted on the Auror programme. Between his magical abilities, work ethic and trustworthy nature, Kingsley rose quickly through the ranks. It was during this time that he met Lorelei, a witch working at the Department of the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. After a few years together as a rising Ministry power couple, the two decided to get married. They later had a child. Kingsley adored them both, and they gave him further drive to fight - fight for fairness and a better future for all.
The War:
During the war, Kingsley earned his stripes. He quickly became one of the most successful Aurors in the DMLE, but he didn't care about the prestige - he only cared about catching as many scumbags as he could. They gradually started to become smarter, more organised, and that only fuelled Kingsley's determination. His focus became consuming, he barely slept, ate very little and was seldom home. He didn't even notice that Lorelei had packed up and left (along with their daughter) until a week after the fact. The situation was made worse when Kingsley told her that it was the wisest choice, as anyone close to him was at risk and could be exploited as a weakness. He chose his vocation over his family, something that his ex-wife has never forgiven - which in turn is something Kingsley has never fully understood.
Afterath:
Seeing so many Death Eaters escape justice had a profound effect on Kingsley. All the hard work and sacrifices he made during the war were for nothing. He protested to his superiors at the DMLE, and once even to the Minister himself, but to no avail. The Ministry was blind and in the pocket of those who meant to harm it. Kingsley took it upon himself to see justice done, an obsession that has led to self-destructive behaviour. He plays fast and loose with the rules, and won't hesitate to cross the line if the ends justify the means.
PLOT IDEAS
3-5 ideas you would like to play out in game.
Auror work: Kingsley is a high ranking Auror; Scrimgeour's would-be deputy. Lots of plots there.
Order: Kingsley was never an official Order member, wanting to remain neutral as he thought this would be more advantageous to the cause. However, he worked closely with Dumbledore and was one of the Order's DMLE insiders.
Old grudges: Kingsley has never forgiven the DMLE or himself for allowing so many high-profile Death Eaters to 'get away with it'. He is not above breaking some fingers if it sees justice finally served.
Family: Kingsley's wife left him post-war because of his obsession with his job. His daughter (Sophia) is now 17 and in her last year of Hogwarts (will be finishing in July). I'd like to see them both in play. Kingsley also has a younger sister - details are open to personal preference.
