long term plot goals
I have some ideas about her relationships in particular; She "Returns" before James, and maybe strikes up a new friendship with Snape, maybe she even knows what he did for her son through him OR through Harry telling her and it changes her perception of him. Or maybe that develops later and she finds that out later. I see her learning new muggle technology because O-M-G, the difference between 1990 and 2017 is STARTLING. I see her struggling with all that lost time with Harry and trying to forge a mother-son bond they never got to have, even though she still feels it so deep in her heart. I see her friendships with Sirius & Remus growing and blossoming more than they had before OR faltering because of the age difference. I see her striking up a friendship with Tonks maybe, struggling to find out what job she really likes - maybe she wants to be a potioneer instead of working with charms as she is now? I HAVE SO MANY IDEAS.

personality
QUIRKS: Lily is taking this in stride, but she is a little jumpier and a bit more closed off than she used to be. Her speech is old school and lacking new slang. LIKES: Coffee, tea, food, pastries, muggle sports, muggle television shows (OH MY GOD TV IS SO MUCH MORE EXCITING), going to the movies, reading, *learning the new history omg* DISLIKES: how awkward everything is, how inept she feels, facebook????, these newfangled journals, not knowing her son, the disconnect, how diagon alley & hogsmeade have changed, adjusting
Traditionally, Lily Potter was known to be vivacious, talented, and popular. She's the kind of person to give people second chances. Lily is kind to her very core, though she's known to have a sharp tongue. She's courageous and capable of great self-sacrifice, including sacrificing herself to save her son. Growing up, she was always curious, inquisitive, and bright. She has a strong sense of morals and loyalty. While she can be headstrong and stubborn, she tries to be analytical and take other people's thoughts and feelings into account.
Post-Returned; Lily is still essentially the same person. I think her prior penchant for being kind, courageous, and considerate allowed her to get through the horrifying experience of returning from the dead and learning everything that has happened since. Adjusting has been difficult, though. She's perhaps a little more skittish than she was before, jumpy at things she might not have been in the past. I think she's more wary and tired - maybe less stubborn, too.
When it comes to giving people second chances and her strong sense of morality, those are likely the most changed from pre-death-and-return. Knowing everything that happened... with some people, even the most honest sorrow and regret may not sway her mind. Her morals may be changed, as well. She died in the midst of the brutal first war, she never got to heal and recover from that, and her idea of right and wrong may be skewed since then. The idea of the war being over is new to her. She's more tentative than those who did not die in the first or second war, who know times of peace and joy post Voldemort.
It boils down to - While less trusting, less forgiving, and more skittish, Lily is still essentially the same talented, likable, vivacious, and quick-witted/sharp tongued girl she was before her death.
appearance
HEIGHT: 5'3" BUILT: Strong, but slender HAIR: Red EYES: Green
Lily is a beautiful, wide-eyed wonder. She has distinctive, large green eyes and red hair. She's on the shorter side of things, though she is not frail or child-like. She is curvaceous but thin, more of an athletic build than anything else. She has no scars or tattoos or anything to speak of.
history
Lily's history is the stuff in history books now, as is her husband's and her son's. She was a muggle-born witch to the Evans family, with an older, muggle sister named Petunia. At a young age she met Severus Snape, who'd seen her using magic. Even at a young age, she was capable of controlling her magic before being taught and showed great promise and talent. Her friendship with Snape gave her an in and idea of what the magical world was like before she got her acceptance letter and was thrust into the Wizarding World.
In school, she was talented and well-liked. She excelled at Charms and Potions, often fiddling over the idea of which she would go into as an adult. Sev was still her best friend, and the first few years (despite James' constantly bothering her) were lovely and where she honestly flourished. In her fifth year, when the blood-purity, Voldemort, Death Eaters, etc all started becoming alarmingly prominent and Snape actually called her a mudblood, alliances were drawn. From that point on, Lily would fight against that sort of bullying, against Voldemort, his Death Eaters, and anyone threatening her very existence. She cut off Snape, and that was that. Worse, James had started to repeatedly ask her out. She spent the rest of that year a little downtrodden.
By seventh year, a war was really brewing. This caused a lot of distress among many people and some personality changes - James had matured, even agreeing to stop bullying Snape for Lily and standing up for muggleborns. It softened her general idea of him, and the two began dating. They joined the Order together, where Lily met Marlene and became best friends with her. James and Lily married as the war came into full swing, had Harry in the height of the war, and went into hiding when they found out they - and their son - were targets of Voldemort himself. Hiding was difficult - James and Lily both felt restless, like they couldn't protect anyone if they hid. Lily wanted to bring them all into hiding with her, especially after what happened to Marlene. She and her whole family had been slaughtered. Losing her best friend like that, Lily was devastated. She spent the next three months in mourning.
And then... she died. On October 31st, 1991, having been betrayed by someone they considered a friend, Voldemort came to their home and murdered James and herself. She pleaded with him, everything, not to kill her son - and in the end, she sacrificed her life for him in hopes it would protect him from Voldemort. And she was just, gone.
Fast Forward to December 21, 2016. Though not the first to arrive, Lily was one of the first. She awoke in her home, Harry was gone, James was gone, everything was destroyed, and it felt like only seconds had passed. Had it not worked? And why did... why was there dust on everything? Even on the rubble? Lily had never been so confused in her whole life. She wandered out of her home, turning back to look at it and seeing it - the memorial. She learned quick, fast, and in a hurry that she had died and many, many years had passed. Shortly after her return and several people stared at her, someone suggested she go to St. Mungos.
Since her return, Lily has focused on looking forward. After learning all the awful truths of what happened and being allowed to return to... a "life" or something like it once all the tests and clearances had been done, Lily found herself without her husband, her son a grown adult with a life and war stories of his own, Voldemort really gone, a peacetime having fallen over everything when she still felt in the middle of a war. She was given a place to live, went through various therapies and job opportunities, and wound up getting a job with the Committee on Experiment Charms in late January, just before her birthday.
Shortly after her own return, Marlene was also brought back to life. The two quickly became friends again - since to them, really, not much time had passed. With Marlene (and a few others) they began to adjust, reassemble their broken lives Lily's attempting to have a relationship with her son and the people in his life, as well. She's patiently awaiting the return of her husband. If she came back, she knew James would return as well. He had to.
