Lindsay Macmillan
Anyone plain can be lovely

Lindsay isn’t the kind of girl that boys fall all over, she’s the first to tell you that. Her blonde hair and hazel eyes are fairly typical in the Macmillan family. She keeps her hair shoulder length to keep it out of her way but doesn’t generally take great pains with it. When she’s particularly rushed or on her rare days off she pulls it back into two spiky pigtails. She doesn’t see herself as particularly attractive so she doesn’t really work hard to get attention.

She favours bold colours and a rather vintage style when working sticking mostly with blouses and mid-length skirts. She avoids high heels whenever possible. Rarely wears robes unless forced to by someone else. Not because she has particular issues with them but she feels they make her look even dumpier than usual.

She wears a charmed charm bracelet all the time that acts as a kind of pager. Charms flash when she’s needed for work with different charms representing different issues and it heats up if she needs to get there right away.

She talks fast and walks fast. It isn’t unusual for someone to ask her to slow down because she’s talking so fast you literally can’t understand half of what she says. She’s quick to smile and she has one of those wide grins that just can’t be faked.

PERSONALITY
I like margins and discipline. I make lists in my sleep

First and foremost Lindsay is a people pleaser (a people pleaser with a sometimes less than stellar attitude but one nonetheless). Nothing makes her happier than making other people happy. It’s one of the reasons she loves her job so much.

If you need someone to run your life, Lindsay is the girl for it. If anyone was perfectly suited for their work it’s definitely her. She has a near perfect memory for anything she hears and is organized to a fault. If you look at the planner that she keeps for work every aspect of the team’s schedule is written out and often color coded. She has a system which probably wouldn’t work for everyone but she’s refined to perfection for herself. It’s unlikely though that anyone could step into her position for even a day without Lindsay there to tell them just exactly what each code and colour actually means.

Her desire to micromanage the lives of people she cares about has often lead to situations that were far from ideal. She seems to feel that she should play matchmaker whenever possible and her friends have probably all fallen prey to her desire to make them happy. As organized as she is in her professional life, in her personal life Lindsay is something of a slob. Not dirty by any stretch of the imagination, but messy. She leaves things where they shouldn’t be. And loses things regularly.

She likes a good joke and is especially fond of people who are capable of manipulating language to their benefit. She loves clever people and snarky people but has a very short fuse when it comes to people who are smart arses just to be mean. She generally has a short fuse when it comes to mean people, period. There were a couple of instances back at school where she (all five feet three inches of her) stood up to people much larger than herself because they were being verbally abusive to classmates who were less willing to stand up for themselves.

She has a sharp tongue which she wields quite effectively when necessary. She’s able to cut idiot promoters to the quick when she feels that they aren’t acting in the best interest of her boss (who is perfectly able to stand up for themselves she knows but sometimes a girl just can’t help it). She often sharpens it at the expense of some of the more outlandish things that are asked of the players on her team.

She’s good at covering it up but Lindsay doesn’t really see herself to be all that smart. She isn’t brilliant like the Ravenclaws that she went to school with by any stretch of the imagination. As far as she can tell the only thing she’s really good at is remembering minute details that most people overlook but that doesn’t really make her all that smart in her estimation.

positives organized, loyal, trustworthy, caring, independent, street smart, determined

negatives messy in her personal life, blindly loyal, interfering, micromanaging, insecure

strengths > organized, hardworking, quick sense of humor, an ability to separate her work life from the rest of her life, good at covering up her insecurities

weaknesses easily exasperated with people who aren’t as organized as she is at work, doesn’t actually have a lot of self-confidence

likes sticky notes, highlighters, colored ink, color coding in general, office supplies in general, bright colors (especially green and yellow)

dislikes high heels, prejudice, getting caught behind someone who is walking slowly

ATTITUDES
I look before I leap

TO THEIR TEAM OR TO THEIR CLIENTELE

Lindsay is the usually quiet force that keeps most things running smoothly for the team and the occasional buffer between the team and Catriona as such she's likely seen as a constantly moving calm influence on the team. She's usually available to the team members to work through anything they need done on a personal level. She sometimes gets herself too involved in the lives of the players though it hasn't happened in the last couple of years.

If your character works for a team directly, how does your character fit in with their team's ethos?

As a Scot born and bred Lindsay easily fits into the Scottish pride that is so much a part of the team. And her unfailing loyalty to the players is evident at all times.

TO THE MEDIA
Lindsay and the Media have a love hate relationship depending on whether she's trying to get them to cover something or keep them from covering something. She's had her share of heated conversations with people trying to keep things out of the news that either aren't anyone's business or would damage the players or team in some way.

TO THE FANS
Lindsay probably isn't really known at all to fans though her skills keep everyone on the team where they're supposed to be at all times.

HISTORY
Looking back at the faces I’ve been I’d sure be the first one to say that when I look at myself today I wouldn’t of done it any other way

CHILDHOOD

Meg and Iain have known each other their entire lives. There are questions about just how closely they are related but both insist that they’re not that closely related (Meg claims fifth cousins or some such, Iain doesn’t go that far but insists that they’re not that close). Facts are that the Scottish pureblood families have been mucking up each other’s bloodlines for centuries and all Macmillans and MacDougals are likely related in some form. Most try to ignore this as much as possible.

Meg insists that she knew by the time that Iain was a fifth year and she a third year that they were going to marry. Iain claims this is a load of bunk as, at the time he was thoroughly in love with the most unattainable girl in his year). Regardless of when their eventual marriage was determined it was known by the time she graduated that they would be making a go at it.

Iain went to work for the Ministry right out of school and Meg took what she thought would be a temporary job as a secretary at the WWN. Her boss heard her speak and knew she was destined for more than getting coffee and taking dictation. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Lindsay was born five years into Iain and Meg’s marriage and was unfortunately their only child but they made up for her lack of siblings by making certain that she never lacked for playmates.

Even though Lindsay is an only child she doesn’t have very many memories of her early childhood that didn’t involve other children. Her parents were both busy professionals and though they spent as much time with her as they possibly could she spent the vast majority of her time with sitters or family members. Meg and Iain spoke often of getting Lindsay a nanny but never seemed to get around to it so she bounced from baby sitters to family members and back nearly constantly.

Even from a young age she took control of situations. Some might blame the fact that she couldn’t control where her parents placed her at any given moment on her need to manage what she could of situations. Regardless of the reasons behind it she started organizing things among her peers when she was very young. It didn’t matter if it was games of statues or playing Hogwarts or any number of other imaginary games it was usually Lindsay who set the framework and it was usually Lindsay who enforced the rules. Though it does have to say that most of the kids went along because she was rarely bossy, just supremely organized even as a six-year-old.

HOGWARTS

There were no surprises when Lindsay received her Hogwarts letter and even fewer when she was placed in Hufflepuff. Not only did the house suit her personality very well but both of her parents had been Hufflepuffs. Lindsay liked school even though her classes were sometimes a struggle for her. She knew that she wasn’t the smartest girl in her year by a long shot but she worked extremely hard to stay near the top with her marks. She’d wanted to be named a prefect but was eventually relieved that she hadn’t been since it took up a large part of her energy to stay on top of her classes.

This doesn’t mean that all she did was study while at Hogwarts. She was a frequent plotter for practical jokes and spent many evenings in the Hufflepuff common room playing exploding Snap or chess. Lindsay is by nature a rather social creature though not always the best at approaching people or reaching out for friendship. She tends to instead be the kind who wait on the sidelines until accepted. But once she’s accepted she’s just as likely to take charge as someone who is more generally outgoing.

Her friends came from all houses and all years. She’d never been one to discriminate when it came to sorting or any other seemingly arbitrary thing. She liked to judge people by how they treated their classmates (especially those who weren’t quite so popular).

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

After NEWTs Lindsay wasn’t quite sure what to do with her life. She wasn’t really sure what her strengths were or how they could translate into a job. It was her mother who first suggested that she try working as a personal assistant and suggested she apply for the position she'd heard of with the Pride of Portree.

Her organizational skills and her patience are regularly tested by the force of nature that is
Catriona McCormack but it's the kind of challenge that Lindsay thoroughly enjoys and she knows that even the craziest demands come from a place of genuine concern for the team and it's players. Lindsay herself has never been a huge Quidditch fan though many of her friends are professional players or fans of the sport. She's found that this actually makes her job easier though many wonder about this.

RELATIONSHIPS

Relationships have always been an iffy thing for Lindsay. While in school she had a handful of boyfriends a couple of them were even sort of serious but she'd never really been in love (though she'd thought she was at the time). School and her friends had always taken priority over relationships and boyfriends usually ended up breaking up with her because they didn't think they had her full attention and the hadn't. She never found a boy that made her want to turn her full attention to. Perhaps this was because she'd carried a torch for a classmate who was completely clueless about her feelings for him perhaps it was just because she subconsciously understood that when she found someone like that it would get very serious and she wasn't ready for that kind of serious.

After Hogwarts she dated some but as she became more and more involved in her work she found herself turning her back on relationships completely. It was easier that way. She didn't want to hurt anyone and she knew that the level of dedication she had for her work meant that most men would feel completely left out of her life. And they wouldn't have been wrong.

Recently though she's started feeling like perhaps she had made a mistake by pushing thoughts of relatioships to the side and she's starting to open up to the idea of maybe putting herself out there but she's more scared about this than she'd readily admit to.

FAMILY

Lindsay's immediate family is very small. It's just her and her parents and she's close to both of them though her mother drives her a bit mad sometimes. Her extended family is massive and consists of most of the wizarding Macmillans and MacDougals many of whom were her closest playmates as a small child.

SAMPLE
I've learned the hard way every time

Please write a first person journal entry in the voice of your character. You may use one of the prompts provided or write an entry on the topic of your choice.

On the Muggle motor ways I understand that there's a fast lane and a slow lane so that people don't get caught behind someone who is going much slower than they are. There are days when I sincerely wish that we had such on our walkways. Why do people have to walk so bleeding slowly all the time? It isn't like there aren't those of us out there who have someplace to be and have four errands to run in the fifteen minutes we have to be away from the office before our bosses loose all connection with sanity.

Really, I'm not asking for too much. Am I?

RANDOM FACTS

• Please note: These facts are important facets of your character that do not fit in any other section. That is why they are 'random'. They should give us additional insight into who your character is. The number of facts you write is optional. We're looking for quality over quantity.
• She enjoys butting heads with her boss especially when she feels like she's making things better for the players by doing so. She doesn't do it to be argumentative but it makes her feel alive.
•She’s hyper organized because if she wasn’t she would be a complete mess all the time. She started colour coding school work so that she could keep track of everything and it’s ballooned from there.
• Has a total weakness for Katherine Hepburn movies, Philadelphia Story is her absolute favorite though Adam’s Rib comes a close second. She freely admits to having a bit of a girl crush on good old Kate. She was so strong and sure of herself and so much the kind of person that Lindsay would love to be.
• Will clam up completely if she thinks someone is insulting her intelligence. She's rather self conscious of not being as smart as some of her friends and being called on things she doesn't know is one of the few things that have the potential to spark her temper.
