Character: Piggy D (aka Matt Montgomery) Lets see, where to start? I should probably get it out now that my real name isn’t Piggy D obviously, and the fact that it has nothing to do with my name what so ever. No, the name came about after a long night of drinking and sexual innuendos. Have I peaked your curiosity yet lol? Anyways, the truth is the name Pig came about when I was 16 after I joined a Punk/hardcore/rock band called SPUNK. They called themselves "burly pig rock". They were all much older than me, so they dubbed me the "burly piglet". It stuck in every band I was in. It went from Piglet, to Piggy, to Pig, and then back to Piggy D. D is for DEMON, from my run with the She Demons. We all had the last name Demon which is a completely different story within itself, trust me. Actually my real name is Matthew Montgomery, pretty bland compared to thee afore mentioned right? So that’s why everyone calls me Piggy D.
I’m betting on that it’s almost safe to say that most of you have never heard of me so I’ll offer you a little info. If you’ve ever listened to Wednesday 13, or have caught up with Rob Zombie recently, you’ve probably seen or at the least heard me since I’ve played the bass and guitar for both of them at one time or another. Bet you didn’t know that was me huh? So there you have it, you knew me but you didn’t lol. My life outside of my musical life isn’t too exciting; I was born in Freeport, Texas I moved to Houston when I was 1 and I lived there until I was 22. Aside from listening to radio or watching Hee-Haw on Saturday nights there wasn’t much to do there, but I guess in a way I’m thankful for it, otherwise I wouldn’t have grown to love music in as much of a way as I do now. ZZ Top, Joe Walsh, Johnny Cash, and Buck Owens they all took a part in shaping me as a player, or at least affected what I can appreciate as a musician. I remember the first time I saw Al Pitrelli play with Alice Cooper and he had this vintage Kramer, man it was so hot! It was at that moment I decided I wanted to be a guitarist and I knew what kind of guitar I wanted to get. Of course at the time, I didn’t have the money so I ended up saving my lunch money and buying this black Peavey tracer from a local pawn shop that’d been sitting in the window for months. Hey it wasn't a Kramer but it looked the same. I still looked cool, which is really all that matters lol. I couldn't play for shit of course, so I ended up taking lessons and learning really quick. The first “gig” I played was for the Jazz band at my highschool, not exactly Madison Square, but it got me a start.
For the most part, I was really quiet as a kid, I stayed in allot. I had a lot of art supplies and homemade musical instruments. I wasn't really a trouble maker until later on haha. Even in highschool I was pretty quiet, but I guess as the years went by and I grew out of the whole shy quiet phase, and playing the guitar helped me with allot of that. My first real guitar job didn’t start until after I graduated though, with the band SPUNK. At least they were the first band I was in that had their shit together. They could actually play out of the city and do alright. They made records and had somewhat of a name. I was only in the band for a few months before I got fired. It was a short trip but it was fun none the less. Then there was The She Demons, God what a cluster-fuck lmao! We were so dysfunctional; I still think it’s pretty amazing we were together for about five years. We progressed a lot in that time though. So much in fact I think I'm to blame for its demise. I wanted to do more honest music and got tired of the shock-rock elements. When you name the band The She Demons, you are unfortunately limited in what people will buy from you. Plus we were all pretty tight as people but fought a lot. We fought the good fight in Houston for longer than most. Just as a side note, wearing dresses and playing monster punk in the south is a good way to get run out of town. We did it though.
After my stint with TSD I kind of retired from the scene for a while, I roadied and played a few shows with a band by the name of Prong, which lead to me meeting the guys of the band Amen, who in some rights helped me to get where I am now. You see we’d went on before the Murderdolls at the Donnington Festival back in 2003 and ended up running late, which of course then made them late. Needless to say I felt pretty bad for it, so I went to find Wednesday 13, the lead singer of the dolls, after the gig and apologized. We hit it off and got to be friends and it pretty much progressed from there. I played with W13 for the better part of 3 years before moving on with them. Shortly after I was picked up by Rob and started to play the bass for the Zombie band, I moved to California and I’ve been here ever since. I can honestly say that I’m pretty happy with where I’m at now. Through this long journey I’ve experienced and done more than I could have ever imagined. I just recently released my own solo album called the Evacuation Plan, something that I’ve been working on and off on for the past 3 years. Another accomplishment I’m pretty proud of. Oh I also created my own small graphic/clothing design company called Black Victory that I started about a year ago which I’m pretty stoked about. Well I guess that’s it, if you didn’t know me before you know me now. And if you want to get to know me even better you know what to do. So until next time this is the Hog from hell signing out saying, PAY ATTENTION. Not to me but to the world around you. Save the planet, protest the war, vote, do something. We will all go down in a cloud of smoke sooner or later.
