So I got edges that scratch and sometimes I don't got a filter
But I'm so tired of eating all of my misspoken words

CHARACTER
Full Name: Theodosia Annalie Sawyer. But it’s just Theo, Thanks.
Age: 23
D.O.B.: June 6th
Powers: Intangibility

Theo can physically move her body through solid matter. Inanimate objects she makes skin contact with she can also effect and move with her as long as they are of similar or smaller size - her clothes, shoes, things she can carry, etc. She cannot, however, make other organics intangible. Her intangibility is effected by the density of the matter through which she’s passing. If she makes herself intangible while in open air, the change is instant and she can maintain that state for several hours without tiring herself. Wood is more difficult to pass through, water, cement/concrete, then metal. It takes her longer to breach, and is more tiring, respectively. Passing through a thick, solid metal barrier may take up to a minute and will probably push her to the point of near-exhaustion. Afterward, she’ll likely not be able to make herself intangible again until she’s rested. Conversely, she can run through drywall all day like it’s her job. As he human body is significantly less dense than wood and water, Theo can also pass through other people and animals, or rather, let them pass through her if she so chooses. If someone made a swipe at her with a knife, however, things could get tricky - the person’s arm would pass through her with next to no effort, but the knife would be slowed down. Theoretically, she’d encounter the same problem with bullets. With an object moving through her that quickly, she’d likely not be completely effective and would suffer internal damage. She hasn’t had experience with this first hand, however, and hopes she never does.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 125 lbs
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Blue
Distinguishing Marks: A few small tattoos. Ears pierced. Faded but fairly serious laceration scar around her left ankle. She doesn't remember how she got it.
Overall: Theo is not a girly-girl, but neither is she a boyish sort. Theo’s just Theo, plain and simple. Her features are a bit angular. If you don’t know her, you’d think her more comfortable scowling than she is smiling. She prefers practicality over pulchritude when off stage and doesn't think she has much of a figure to show off. Her slightly waifish shape seems to have taken it's queues from her early tomboyish leanings and scarce upbringing in the Diaspora, but her career in dance hasn’t helped her develop much curve. She’s tall, leggy and toned. She adores black and anything in a dark, rich colors. She just about lives in a few well-loved pairs of slim jeans and one pair of extremely well made, quality leather boots she expects to last her well into her thirties - at least she hopes so. She'll braid her long wavy hair sometimes, but that’s as far as her girly wiles will carry on an average day.

PERSONALITY
Theo is a bit of an odd bird. She has an artist’s heart, relentless wit and a viper’s bite. She’s a natural introvert who, as a Diaspora child liberated at an unusually early age, has never been able to live so. Unlike a lot of introspective sorts, she’s not much of a dreamer though. Theo is intensely logical. She analyzes the world around her though sense and sensation - how something looks, tastes, sounds, feels and smells, then draws conclusions as is rational. There aren’t a lot of ‘what ifs’ for her. She does have a strong aesthetic understanding and appreciation, though, likely because she’s so grounded in the physical world.

She’s not the easiest person to get to know. Although she’s been thoroughly assimilated into the culture and lifestyle of Haven, she has some residual moral discomforts with things she sees and hears that she just can’t swallow. As a rule she’ll do her best to hide it, as drawing attention to herself and her personal life is the last thing she wants particularly in her line of work, but it does make her rather prickly at times. With the exception of her emotions and moral compass however, she’s not a quiet person. If she likes you, you’ll know it. If she doesn’t, you’ll know even faster. Theo’s not likely to talk to you about how she feels, however. What she feels she expresses physically, primarily putting it into her dancing and her vocal training. Similarly, if she feels something strongly about a person she’ll show them, not wax poetic. She has a shockingly deep well of loyalty and care for the people whom she lets close to her.

In almost all arenas, in fact, Theo’s primarily action oriented. She’s a ‘doer,’ and doesn’t normally spend time theorizing concepts or ideas unless they have a practical or meaningful application. This doesn’t mean she’s not intelligent. Quite the opposite, actually. Watching people and the world around her and making observations is just far more interesting to her. Emotionally undemonstrative as she is with strangers, she’s actually pretty perceptive about people. She doesn’t give herself much credit for the things she’s good at, though, and sometimes lapses into perfectionism. She needs space and quiet from time to time or it can get a bit overwhelming for her. She has no desire to lead or control others, just as she has no tolerance for being controlled or lead. Haven and it’s cultural constraints, while familiar to her now, sometimes just feels like a cage to which she’s become accustomed.

SPECIAL SKILLS / ABILITES:
Theo has a survivor’s mentality. It’s hard to break her down. She’s fairly athletic, has tons of physical stamina to make up for her lack of strength, is graceful, flexible, has extraordinary balance and physical awareness of herself and others. As an added benefit to her vocal training, she’s especially good at hiding emotional inflections in her voice. It might not be the most useful skill, but does come in handy when the media catches up to her once a year or so when they renew interest in previously liberated children.

PERSONAL WEAKNESSES:
Isolation: Theo’s reputation as a Diaspora child sometimes follows her, even though she’d rather just keep that particular skeleton in her closet. It alienates her. As she doesn’t know many of the other liberated children and wasn’t intended to be a spy, she has no way of contacting her old family. She sometimes feels rather alone in Haven.

Public Eye: The media loves their pet bandit kids. An adult now, the glamor has mostly worn off but she’s not foolish enough to think tabs aren’t kept on her. Her career also keeps her in the public eye. Unable to imagine herself doing anything else, she just has to take it in stride and be on good behavior to the best of her ability whenever she can manage it. Sometimes it makes her feel like tearing at her hair.

Curiosity: It killed the cat. It hasn’t killed Theo yet, but it does get her into trouble now and again. She’s persistent and naturally inquisitive. Sometimes she doesn’t know when to let things lie.

Memory Lapses: When a young child is deeply traumatized, their particularly elastic brain tends to protect itself by eliminating access to the cognitive and sensory memory supporting the trauma. Theo has trouble with remembering much of anything before the age of eight. She has a vague picture of a man in her memory she assumes is her father, but can’t entirely make him out. She remembers loving the smell of campfires, but has no memory of being around one. Knowing where she comes from doesn’t make it easier to ignore the discrepancies, and her patchy memory often troubles her. Every now and then she’ll forget to take care of something important that she didn’t want to do (like pay rent when she’s low on cash) and she’ll create bigger problems for herself, all because of residual retention problems.

Her big mouth: When not censoring herself around the media or before and after performances when she’s expected to put on a front as the grateful entertainer, she has a habit of speaking her mind when she really shouldn’t. It’s been problematic more than once.

PERSONAL STRENGTHS:
Theo is extraordinarily self-reliant. So much so, in fact, that she gets a little prickly when she does need to ask for help, or it's offered to her. She believes in doing something yourself if you want it done right. She's also tough, really tough. Her foster parents weren't bad people, but they didn't exactly shelter her much after they realized how much of a 'fixer-upper' she was. Theo's no ninja, but she can take care of herself in a fight well enough to escape it. If she really bites off more than she can chew, she'll just put a wall between herself and the problem.

HISTORY
Theo doesn’t know who her parents were. She doesn’t know if she had siblings, or how many. In fact, all of her memories before the age of eight are either hazy or missing entirely. She knows she was born outside Haven, to the Diaspora. When Theo was just shy of six years old, she was taken from her family in a raid on the caravanning Bandits living in the wastelands. She wasn’t supposed to be taken, had no training to tell her how to feel, behave or take any of her newly upside-down world into stride. She only knew that she was in a strange place, with strange people who didn’t look, sound or even smell quite right. Her foster parents tell her she spent the better part of her first year with them either crying herself into exhaustion in the corner of her bedroom, or in complete silence, refusing to look anyone in the eye. Theo hears stories of how the media was all abuzz with stories of the unusually young liberated child, but they eventually lost interest in her when she proved so unwilling to entertain.

Graham and Natalie Sawyer were actually rather good parents. To their two biological children James and Emily, they were close to ideal. With Theo, they did the best they could. She was so difficult, even after she’d broken through the catatonic haze of her shock, that she made it rather difficult for them to be anything but disciplinarians. Thankfully, Natalie did do one extraordinarily kind thing for Theo, which has more or less defined her life and likely saved her sanity. When Theo was seven, Natalie started working a few extra hours a week at the attorney’s office where she worked to pay for dance lessons for Theo, hoping an artistic outlet would help her foster daughter work out some of her stress and confusion. Theo took to dance as though she’d been made for it, particularly Ballet.

Long-legged and scrawny, Theo’s teenage years were a bit of a parody of the old story of the Ugly Duckling and the Swan. Through her extracurricular classes Theo started to branch out and make friends with the Haven-born children. She found something to be proud of, which made her feel less afloat and alienated. Graham and Natalie made it very clear that it likely wouldn’t do much for her once she reached her majority, that she should pursue other interests and find something she was good at she could make a career out of. Her intangibility had come into effect shortly after her tenth birthday. She’d been phasing through walls in the house ever since. It was rare - surely she could put that to good use somewhere? Theo heard none of it. She knew what she wanted to do.

When she was seventeen, she got her chance to show the powers-that-be in Haven that she was worth a shot. She earned a role in one of the district performing arts centers. She danced the ghostly part of a man’s much-loved, deceased arranged wife. It was a propaganda piece meant to show that the matches designated by the council were not something to be feared or disturbed by. What’s more, she got to put her ability to an unexpected, stunning use. Phasing through her dance partner’s grasp, slipping away from his touch when he reached desperately for her, clearly heartbroken - the performance was so stunning and heartfelt that the bandit girl long-forgotten was again an upstart media darling. The performance was replayed on the network for months, and Theo was offered a career in entertainment just a few short months later on her 18th birthday. It felt a little bit dirty, accepting what she wanted so badly as a reward for what was essentially praising the council with her art. But she had what she wanted, and immediately accepted.

Theo has been dancing with the best companies in Haven for the past five years, living with an assigned roommate in the Eventide district whom she now considers a great friend. She’s fairly certain that her position as an entertainer will grant her a bit of leeway where the whole arranged marriage thing is concerned - after all, it’d be a horrible twist of irony if she was assigned to someone horrible after using the same subject matter to win the council’s good graces. For the time being she tries not to think about it, focusing instead on her work and her friends.
