If only things were always this simple. Don't like your nose? Let me erase it for you.

Oh, I was so, so tempted by this seven. It would have been so simple, so beautifully simple. Breast reduction? Sure! Let me just break this off for you.

I have to admit, I'm highly in favor of the warmer weather. Now if only the water would follow suit.

Closed - Plot: Endless effects (Sunday)

She'd hung around the complex long enough to ascertain that no one was hurt, that there seemed to be no lasting effects of the explosion. No one seemed to know what had happened, what had caused the explosion or how the complex had rebuilt itself.

Mara had looked around for December as she cultivated a theory of her own. The Endless had made the Complex a safe spot -- what if it had simply absorbed and stored the magic instead of releasing it? What if the explosion had been the cumulation of all the magic they thought it was deflecting. She wondered if the base had experienced anything similar.

She went home, absorbed in these thoughts and fell into a quick, deep sleep. She normally dreamed, normally remembered her dreams, but they were nothing compared to the clarity of this dream. She could feel the dew from the grass as it wet her feet. She could smell the gentle scent of jasmine on the breeze that caressed her skin. She didn't know where she was but it was beautiful and peaceful. It felt like the complete opposite of someplace she would have made after Lucifer had left her.

She knew when the other woman joined her, knew that she was just as surprised to find herself here as Mara was. No, not Mara. Mazikeen.

"Hello Mother."

"Hello, Mazikeen. Beautiful place, isn't it?"

"Yes."

"I wonder if Eve will invite us to tea?"

Mara was immensely enjoying her time off but it was her last weekend of "freedom" before going back to work on Monday. She slept in late, not even bothering to set the alarm.

She didn't need to: A small voice woke her, telling her that really, she shouldn't sleep the whole day away.

She sat up, looked from one shoulder to the other and sighed. She exchanged a glance with her devil-self, smirked and subtly tilted her head. The devil smirked in return, walked across her back and booted the angel off her other shoulder with nary a word.

Mara went back to sleep.

I am officially on vacation until Monday. No plans yet. May go to the Keys for a few days. May not bother to crawl out of bed.

I feel the need for a vacation coming on. You know, I can't actually remember the last time I actually took one of those.

Add Ben Brenton to the list of the suddenly missing.

Closed - Plot

Mara had been glad when she'd gotten the call from Ben and arranged to see his newest pieces right away. She knocked on the door and heard him call in response that it was open, but when she came into his apartment, she didn't see him.

And it wasn't like there was a way to miss him in that tiny space. The room was empty. On the worktable Ben's tools and sketches lay scattered, messy as always but there was no Ben. Still, she searched, opening the door to the bathroom. Empty as expected. There were no signs of anything untoward (which she would have heard anyway).

Mara sighed and rubbed her forehead. Right, another disappearance. First she called the police, then she called Gordon. Then she used her phone to post a short message to the journals. She'd wait here until the police showed up.

Mara had scrubbed for surgery and walked the short distance to her operating theater with hands up. She bumped the door open with her hip, blinked, and shook her head.

"Why is there a reindeer in the middle of my operating room?" she asked.

"Pardon me, doctor?"

She looked over at her nurse as the door swung closed and the nurse opened it again. It was just a normal room this time.

"I said," Mara thought fast, "There better not be any songs about reindeer sung in my operating room."

"Yes doctor," the nurse said and rolled her eyes after Mara had walked in. "Wouldn't want any holiday spirit after all," she muttered.

Is it wrong to think it would have been fun to pit the rabid turkeys against the rabid shoppers on Black Friday?
