Millicent grew up as the afterthought – or rather the accident – in the already established unpleasant Bulstrode household. At 8 and 9 years the junior of her sister and brother respectively, she was at the same time both the odd one out and the baby of the family. Well, as much as one could actually be a baby in that family. Like ‘Frankineddie’ she was taught both dueling, boxing, and fencing from a very early age, although if asked, Millicent would claim that she had to wait eternities before she was finally allowed to join her siblings in the ring. From very early on, it was clear that boxing and hand-to-hand combat was where her strengths were, and much to her father’s chagrin, Millicent had a tendency to forego the wand in favour of her fists and physical strength during duels. Aside from basic reading and writing skills, academia wasn’t particularly weighted during her upbringing, and it wasn’t until she got to Hogwarts – proud to be a Slytherin like Frankie – she realized that there was so much more to learn and found a profound liking for Arithmancy. She made… acquaintances her own age, acquaintances that later grew to become close friends, friends to whom she’s fiercely loyal and will do anything in her power to protect. The ban on Eddie and Frankie’s dueling came as a shock to her. Since before she had started Hogwarts, Millicent had rooted for them, almost obsessively following their career from the sidelines, and now they were just thrown out like that? Prevented from doing what they so obviously excelled at? And all because some Auror’s brother couldn’t properly defend himself. Wuss. Soon, though, it became evident that Frankineddie had gotten a new opportunity, even if Millicent didn’t know right away. What she did know, was that she was able to relay what was happening in the castle in Owls to her family. It was also on her father’s request that she joined the Inquisitorial Squad, meticulously sending back every bit of information that she could possibly fit into Owls that resembled those of a power-hungry fifth-year. That was Millicent’s first job for Zenith Cruz, even if she hadn’t a clue that any such organization even existed. That changed after the war. Her father and brother had fought in the Battle of Hogwarts, and although their side had lost, they hadn’t appeared defeated… and neither of them were known for being particularly graceful losers. As the Wizarding World began rebuilding, Millicent were presented with one opportunity after the other. She was offered a position where she would learn not just clerical skills but also management and communication. She was encouraged to keep up her intense boxing, though reminded of how she by simply changing a few things in her training could shape her body differently. And finally, she was constantly shown and reminded of how working witches were expected to look presentable. Millicent wasn’t blind or stupid, but her skills when it came to looks were limited to basic Glamours that could hide the worst of the bruises she got from boxing. So she sought out the one person who to her epitomized good looks, the one witch who had actually managed to make antlers look good: Pansy Parkinson. Pansy immediately went to work and Millicent found herself subjected to a long line of intense lessons on make-up, colours, and fabrics, before she was dragged on a days’ long shopping spree that not just replaced her already existing wardrobe, but had her need to expand her closet. Several times. She was put on a strict diet and given orders of wearing heels even if she got up in the middle of the night to use the loo. By the time she had finally mastered the heels to a degree where an even surface didn’t present much of a challenge for her, ZC gave her a new assignment: Draco Malfoy was in need of an assistant, and preferably one who could fight, should the need for it ever occur. She now runs the office and administrative duties of Draco’s office in Wizarding London, as well as keep close tabs on his whereabouts in order to handle the communication requests for him. |
