Out Of Character Name: Khushi Age: legal e-mail: you AIM: still IJ: should Timezone: know Experience: this :D In Character BASICS Name: Iona Màiri Cornfoot Age & Birthdate: 35; 2 June 1944 Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Marital Status: Single (broken engagement with Ralph Thomas) Blood Status: Pureblood Wand: 9.5", ash wood, unicorn tail hair Current Residence: King's Park, Glasgow, Scotland Affiliation(s): St. Mungo's, Ministry supporter Political Stance: The Cornfoots are non-Purists. And as far as she knows, there's no vigilante group that exists that can do a better job than the Ministry. That's what they're there for, to protect the citizens of the Wizardry world, and the mere thought that it might soon be run over by Death Eaters is just so appalling. SCHOOL & WORK Former House: Ravenclaw Years: 1955-1962 Any Extras: None NEWT Scores: Charms: O, DADA: O, Potions: O, Transfiguration: E, Herbology: O Occupation: St. Mungo's Healer; Artifact Accidents ward Attitude Toward Job: This was something Iona decided she wanted to at a younger age. She left Hogwarts with determination that she'd be a Healer, and she made it after seventeen years. She knows she's damn good at what she does because she absolutely loves what she does and no one could take that away from her. PERSONALITY Likes: books, cats, debates, Healing, her brother, her family, Ministry, mystery novels, languages, rain, random facts, reading, talking, traveling, trivias Dislikes: cheaters, comparing her faults with her brother's, Death Eaters, losing things, problem patients, snakes Greatest Fear: Dying completely alone Greatest Wish: Having a family of her own General Personality: Anyone who meets Iona Cornfoot for the first time could immediately tell that she loves to talk. She's no blabber-mouth or gossip queen, though. It's more or less called being a good conversationalist. Her journal entries are usually riddled with random facts that she's read or heard of in the day, or a topic of debate. Iona's an argumentative person and passionate about some fields of topics. She loves learning new things and teaching them as well, which is why she always enjoyed enlightening her younger brother about her school lessons between years. Because of her incredible love for learning, Iona likes to keep an open mind. Sometimes, its too open though, because she has a tendency to be easily influenced and also can be on the gullible side. Reading is one of her hobbies as well as learning a new language (she currently knows English, Spanish and a tiny bit of French). From that stems her passion for traveling. Though she can't do too much of it because of work, when she finds the time to take a vacation, she'd take a small trip someplace. For the most part, Iona is cheerful and tries to remain optimistic, not just for herself sometimes, but also to keep up an appearance if need be. Because of that, she tends to hide her more negative feelings, but ends up getting mood swings anyway. When she's nervous, she'll play at the hems of her skirt and such, and sometimes, her talkative side starts to turn into "babbling". Iona is always ready to help out people, part of why she went into Healing. She puts on a smiling face for new people and knows to be empathetic to her patients. After all, the more important parts of health care, in her opinion, are having the knowledge and communication. Friends would call her trustworthy. She can definitely keep a secret, despite the first impression being that she probably can't, but once others learn to trust her, they'd be happy with the decision. The complaints (well, could possibly be taken as such, depending on who you're talking to) would be that she's sometimes impulsive and demanding. She knows she's smart and while loving to share the knowledge, if she doesn't check herself, she might come off as egotistical with the classic Ivory Tower syndrome. Love is something she sees as a valuable piece of life. Not just familial love but spousal and romantic as well. Iona has always been faithful, condemning cheating as a horrible crime. Brains rule over heart, but Iona would still place her family and friends before anyone in the entire world. Other than the loyalty to her friends, she also shows plenty of determination to please others whether it be her parents or her higher-ups at work. She's flighty, fast-paced, and can multi-task with ease. While it happens less at work, at home, she has a habit of leaving things undone. It's lasted her throughout her school year, when she fully intended on cleaning her room but only got through putting three books away when she decided she needed to read one of them. Perhaps some of her books have bookmarks still stuck in the middle of it, because she wanted to start reading so many that she forgot to the finish a bunch of them as well. As their time in Hogwarts went by, they only became more and more closer. Even after Alasdair left after his seventh year, he didn't break away from his devotion to his girlfriend and he sent her letters for that year they were apart, meeting up on Hogsmeade weekends as well. Soon after Teàrlag sat for her N.E.W.T.s, Alasdair proposed at a celebratory dinner -- apparently, the last year had taught him that he just couldn't feel right if she wasn't at his side for life. Teàrlag and Alasdair were married the year after with no objects from either family. It was a proper Pureblood wedding, though it is important to note that the Cornfoots are not Purists. However the need for secrecy and separation between the two worlds was still something they supported. For years right after their marriage the Cornfoots tried for a baby, but Iona wasn't going to be born to them till five years afterwards, on a bit of a rainy early summer day. They still joke that it's why Iona feels most comfortable around rain, but it's quite possibly not far from the truth. Three years later, Douglas was born, and for most of her childhood, she played teacher to her younger brother and any of her cousins. Her younger relatives were practically like dolls for her, and she grew to be very attached to them. Even as she grew older, the attachment didn't fade. When she started Hogwarts, as she was the oldest sibling, she wrote letters back home, addressed to Douglas on how it was like. On winter or summer holidays, she'd hold mini lessons for him on bits and pieces of what she'd learn then. She was sorted into Ravenclaw, which wasn't a surprise, as she always loved reading from the early age. Her parents had high hopes that she'd be an exceptional student, get a good career and then settle down with a family. In school, Iona managed to obtain the first goal. So she didn't make prefect, only because her best friend Charity was more fit for the job, but Iona didn't mind so much. Not that she preferred to defy rules so much, but she had an opinion that a tiny bit of bending was a-okay. She still earned her high grades in class and on examinations with determination that she'll reach her second goal, which was Healing. Iona had made the decision since close to the end of her sixth year and when classes ended, she threw herself into Healing training. And for some time, that third goal remained just as her parents' goal for her, not her own. Iona and Ralph Thomas were close friends during their time in Hogwarts. They were in the same year but just of different houses (Ralph was in Hufflepuff). His brother, Malcolm, worked at St. Mungo's and through him, Ralph and Iona reconnected. Their friendship grew into deep affection and possibly love. Iona didn't marry right away though both knew it was going to happen; she chose to work for some time till she thought she was ready for it. Some years later, she finally was and the preparations started. Everything was going to be perfect, and life just couldn't get any better. Granted this romance blossomed in her late twenties but she loved him and he very much loved her. Or so they both had thought, until the engagement came to an end. It was a painful confession, but Ralph had to tell the truth of how he had met someone else months before and had been hit with a realization that he was not in love with Iona. She said she understood and called off the wedding not long after. But she wasn't going to understand right away. First she was going to be bitter and closed up. Douglas was married already and already had children. And then she'd move away from her old flat in Edinburgh near her parents' place because that just held far too many memories between her and Ralph. She moved to a newer flat in Glasgow instead and decided to try to start over again. She continues to work at St. Mungo's, and attempts to mend her broken heart with several smaller dates here or there, but it's hard to forget an incomplete dream. PHYSICAL Portrayed-By: Frances O' Conner (picture, icons) Height: 5' 8½" (1.74 m) Hair Colour: Brown but sometimes she likes to colour it dark blonde Eye Colour: Brown Distinguishing Marks / Features: Iona has a thin figure. Combine that with high heels that she tends to wear and she looks a lot taller than she really is. She also gets a dimple on her left cheek. Samples 1st Person Journal Entry: Fingering through a Muggle textbook on history of the Earth, I came across something interesting: The world suffered from several mass extinctions in the past... millions of years in the past, before there was anything remotely resembling what we see today. These may have been caused by comets or mass volcanic eruptions or what have you. Wiped out the dinosaurs. I would have loved seeing one of those things in action. So long as it wasn't a carnivorous one, mind you. It makes me wonder if such a thing could ever happen again. We wake up one morning and see all of our skies completely engulfed in dark clouds, causing nightfall on earth lasting for days that would eventually wipe out every living thing on the planet. And then I think, what are we fighting for? If the world could possibly end so very abruptly, why are humans spending their time killing others for this sense of superiority? Reading the Prophet and listening to people is depressing day by day as more people are gone. During the time I spent with Florence on her rotations in the Artifacts Accident department, she was a very talented young witch with a lot of potential for success in this career, and a wonderful future ahead of her. I really hope she and her husband are okay. 3rd Person RP: Other Blurb: Iona Cornfoot is all about three things - Healing, reading, and love. After a painfully broken engagement, however, she seeks comfort in the first and second because of the loss of the third. Plans for your Character: Obviously, there will be interactions with her siblings and sister-in-law and friends and such. I also want her finally finding someone and settling down because she wants it badly. Even if it's someone picking up Ralph Thomas and mending stuff between them. Also, random stuff with wands and cauldrons blowing up, please? She'd like to keep busy in her job. :D Battle Numbers:
