Out Of Character Name: Khushi Age: 23 e-mail: iikhushi86ii (at) gmail AIM: khushalecki IJ: ~khushalecki Timezone: US Eastern Experience: Lots ;) In Character BASICS Name: Dahlia Vivian Rookwood Age & Birthdate: 28; 10 April 1951 Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Marital Status: Single Blood Status: Pureblood Wand: 6", Rowan wood, dragon heartstring Current Residence: Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk, England Affiliation(s): Death Eater supporter Political Stance: Dahlia is in full support of cleansing the world of filthy blood. She is behind almost everything the Dark Lord and Death Eaters stand for. And I say almost because she's not completely for the sick sadistic act of playing with your victims as if they are toys. Not that she thinks the Ministry has the gall enough to do the same, but she'd not want her brother or anyone in her family with the Mark to be on the receiving end if the Ministry decided to implore similar treatment. SCHOOL & WORK Former House: Ravenclaw Years: 1962-1969 Any Extras: Prefect, Head Girl NEWT Scores: Charms: O, Defence: O, Herbology: O, Potions: O, Transfiguration: O Occupation: Socialite Attitude Toward Job: No job but a member of three charity groups? Of course she loves it! Especially her position as treasurer on Ladies' League because that's just a very prestigious role. PERSONALITY Likes: art, being the best, being wooed, cello lessons, charity groups, helping others, her brother, her family, music, pearls, social parties, top marks, trinket boxes, winning Dislikes: adults acting childish, being beaten, being unmarried, giving second chances, music snobs, remaining single, setting low standards, working women Greatest Fear: Losing her fingers and sense of hearing Greatest Wish: Having an adoring husband and two children, preferably a boy and a girl, and watching them grow up to become Head Boy and Head Girl of Hogwarts General Personality: If Dahlia Rookwood could invent a word that meant being better than "the best", she would. Unfortunately, she's always been too busy trying to be exactly that to invent it. This is a woman who believes life is meaningless if you’re not trying hard to succeed at anything you want to set your mind on. She’s ambitious, competitive, and works great under pressure that the Sorting Hat wagered between wanting to place her in Slytherin or in Ravenclaw, but because of her desire to excel in her studies the moment she stepped into the school, she was put in Ravenclaw. In Dahlia’s opinion, if you can’t answer a professor’s question within seconds, it’s a lost cause, and so it’s a good thing she doesn’t plan on being a teacher. She’s mildly impatient and would rather not wait for acknowledgement from a professor or acquaintance to be allowed to give an answer; so in her earlier years she was reprimanded for calling out. But interruption is not proper etiquette, and proper etiquette has been drilled in her mind by her mother, that Dahlia learns to contain herself. As a socialite, Dahlia can charm her way into a person’s heart with a sweet smile and some caring words. While she is completely supportive of the Dark Lord and the Death Eaters, she would never show outright disgust to anyone of lesser blood. It is uncouth and unladylike to stick your nose in the air at people. Though, hypocritically, she would not have hesitated to throw cold haughty looks at people for their lack of intellect at a certain point in her life. Naturally, Dahlia is a cheerful woman, eager to please with no lack of energy. She enjoys attention and wholeheartedly attempts to enjoy life, as much as she can in midst of a brewing war. To the best of her ability around strangers, she will be charming and passionate, but doesn’t forgive easily if one should make a careless mistake. With her family (and of course, really close friends), Dahlia opens up further. She’s still her suave self, but many of the barricades she attempts to keep up fall off. Biting words, mostly about others, come out easily. She occasionally lets herself have a hissy fit when she wants to around her brother, Augustus, but chides herself for her behavior afterwards and apologizes. She’s emotional, and she can keep her cool if need be, but when there comes a time to cry, she’ll only do so in front of those most closest to her that they can see right through her. And would not judge if she shed some tears. Dahlia is closest to her older brother, Augustus, holding nothing but the utmost respect despite allowing him to see the worst sides of her. Even if she’s slightly annoyed that she has yet to wed, she does not argue with her brother’s decision because he knows what he is doing and if he believes a man is not right for her, it must be so. Dahlia is musically inclined. She has always held a love for performing arts, but music to be specific holds a special place. Her favourite instrument is the cello which she was given at a young age and only gave it up in exchange for a newer and better one. Losing the instrument is not as great a fear as is losing the most precious body functions one needs to play – her fingers and sense of hearing. But that does not mean she would give up her cello easily. Materialism keeps her cello, and basically everything she owns, in her possession and prohibited from being touched by anyone else. Surprisingly, she is great with money, and is careful not to spend too much needlessly. Of course this might be a different story if it would be her hypothetical husband’s galleons. PERSONAL & FAMILY HISTORY Family: Roderick Rookwood: Father; Hogwarts alumnus (Slytherin '41); d. 1973 History: The house of Rookwood was formed from a union between Roderick Rookwood and Irina Dolohov at a young age, when they were sixteen and twelve respectively. Of course the inevitable marriage did not come until later, in the fall of 1945, after they had attended and finished their studies in Hogwarts. Their future had been set. This was normal and completely accepted. Whether there was actual love or not, it was certain there was a mutual respect and care between them. Roderick worked in the Department of Mysteries while Irina spent her life as a socialite. Despite not originally being of European origin, she mixed well with the other Purebloods and even her accent had started to fade. Irina’s lifestyle would be one that her youngest daughter would soon observe and want for herself. And Dahlia Rookwood came into life after three of her older siblings, the oldest being Augustus, then Imogene and then Maximilian. Not only was there one between herself and her mother, but there was another instant bond between her and Augustus as the children grew up. Dahlia’s childhood consisted of being the baby of the family, the doll that her sister liked to groom and dress up, the weakest that needed the most protection courtesy of her brothers, and when she became a little older, the child who just seemed to want everyone’s attention that she would do anything to get it and sometimes it just did not please her siblings. Sibling rivalry was typical. From an early start, Dahlia attempted to always do the things that Imogene can do but better. When she couldn’t follow Augustus or Maximilian around, she sat with her mother for afternoon tea with her socialite friends, swinging her legs under the chair till her mother told her to stop that. At age eight, Dahlia showed her first sign of childhood when she dropped one of her mother’s empty tea cups in front of company but it didn’t break on the floor. A panicked Dahlia closed her eyes and wished for the cup to move back in its original position and lo and behold, that’s where it was again. At society parties, Dahlia was always drawn to the musicians, particularly the cello. Her mother, recognizing the interesting, decided that having her daughter know music would be very helpful in impressing other Pure families. After all, if her marriage was decided at a young age, and they were living a good life, it couldn’t be a bad idea for Dahlia herself. So she started her lessons and managed to learn several pieces before she started Hogwarts. The little girl with a heart for watching people’s faces light up from her talent walked in through those doors determined to, like always, try to be the best in all she could be. She pushed herself in her schoolwork, and did not shirk from her music lessons at the same time, and eventually, she obtained Prefect and then Head Girl positions. That was an utter delight. And that was enough for her when it came to school. Dahlia looked away from all the special programs she could join. Healer? Auror? She may have had the grades to get in but working was not for a lady. When she left Hogwarts, she returned straight to her home to continue shaping herself to be a bright young lady that smiled a lot, accepted her siblings’ spouses with open arms into the family, and played such wonderful pieces on the cello for her guests. Dahlia’s company around her mother was especially needed after their father died in 1973. They grew even closer after that, as did Dahlia and Augustus. Suddenly, she wasn’t a child anymore, despite being the youngest. She had to be a strong woman for her family, and she did so by being the comforting shoulder. And then she had herself a good cry after she knew her mother and siblings would make it through this tragedy, Augustus especially, now that he had a cause to fight for after Uncle Antonin approached him. Dahlia put her full support in him after that, while continuing to be the society lady as she grows older. She joined the Family Support group, the WSPCA, and the Ladies’ League, eventually becoming treasurer in the last of the three. Yet, there is still one important thing missing in her life, and if Augustus could only find a man he believes good enough for his favourite sister, her life would be complete. PHYSICAL Portrayed-By: Erica Durance Height: 5'9 Hair Colour: Brown Eye Colour: Green Distinguishing Marks / Features: Her hair is usually left loose with side-swept bangs but pinned back whenever she's at special occasions. Dahlia has always taken great pains to keep her figure in perfect shape. Or close to perfect at least. She has a tall slender build but slightly more weight on her hips. Or at least she believes as she frowns into the mirror. Samples 1st Person Journal Entry: One Christmas, I was given a trinket box from my Mum that she had had in her family for years. We have two, actually. One that Imogene received on her wedding day, and one that Mother decided to give me the year of 1974. She said that it was thanks to me holding a strong head up for her and my family when we were hit with a tragedy. At that time, I joked and said "Is it because you can't wait till my wedding any longer?" It's beautiful. And that Christmas was beautiful as well, but every Christmas after '73, we can sense the lack of our father's presence in the house. It can be disheartening but only if we let it get us down. Wherever Father is, I know he's thinking of us, and wants us to be happy every Christmas. And Easter, and birthdays, for anything. I tend to think of him whenever I start making my gift list, hence the journal entry. I hope everyone will enjoy their holidays this year, despite the awful things happening around. Don't let this entry get you down. 3rd Person RP: (Does not need to be character-specific or new, though it can be if you want. A link to a log or thread is perfectly fine, or you could write a ficlet, a thread starter, or anything else that shows how you RP) Other Blurb: If Dahlia Rookwood could invent a word that meant being better than "the best", she would. Unfortunately, she had always been too busy trying to be exactly that in Hogwarts to invent it. But after having earned the Head Girl title, she wants nothing more to do now but to run charities, play her cello, and eventually get married. Plans for your Character: Getting married, but first going through trials with suitors because her brother is fickle with who he wants as her husband, playing in the social circles, being treasurer of Ladies' League if that's all right!
