IN CHARACTER
Name: Josef Konstantin (Goes by Josef Kostan) Fandom: Moonlight Age: over 412 years old Point in Canon: after the series finale Powers: Josef is a vampire. He has heightened physical strength and heightened senses. He heals quickly, especially after consuming blood, and if not killed by silver, fire, or beheading he could live forever. A stake through his heart will paralyze him. Silver can poison him, but garlic, holy water, and crucifixes will not. He can walk in the sunlight, but prolonged exposure will weaken him. Personality: Josef loves sarcasm and uses it freely in talking. He doesn’t open up easily, but when he does he can show that he truly cares for people. He only has one friend who doesn’t hang around him for his money and status and that is Mick St. John. Mick is one individual Josef really cares for, going so far as to turn him back into a vampire after he is cured so that he’ll stand a chance in a fight. Josef has only ever fallen in love once and, though his love is in an eternal coma, he still loves her and provides for her, hoping that someday she’ll wake. It is because of her that he is very hesitant about turning any human into a vampire or carrying on a relationship with a human. It’s easy to mistakenly assume that Josef doesn’t have high regard for human beings as he uses them mostly for sustenance. He just prefers to keep his distance and keep the vampire world separate from that of humans. Brief History:http://moonlight.wikia.com/wiki/Josef_Kostan Puncturable? No. Played By: Jason Dohring
SAMPLES Third Person Josef had no idea how he’d come to the strange tree stump. The last place he remembered being was his newly rebuilt highrise in Los Angeles. This was definitely not Los Angeles nor was it any other place he’d called home in his many years. At this point he’d followed his instincts to an apartment building. An apartment building that was far smaller than the ones he’d grown used to. It was remarkably average. Even Mick, his friend who seemed to love all things average and human, wouldn’t have wanted to call it home.
There were worries on his mind. The fridge had been stocked with bags of blood which would have been great, only Josef didn’t drink from bags. It wasn’t him. As far as he knew, he was here alone. No beautiful freshies to snack off of, just the cold bags of blood that tasted like death. It was only a matter of time before he got hungry and when he got hungry he also tended to get impulsive. Neither of which were good things for a vampire to be.
Someone caught his eye. Young, blonde, hopefully willing to be bought off for just a taste of what she had below her skin. He’d have to be charming if he stood any chance at all of pulling it off, though.
“Nice night, huh?” He raised his voice a little so that she might hear him. Josef stepped close, not so fast as to seem creepy or aggressive, though. He flashed what he considered to be a flirtatious smile at her.
Veronica turned when she heard someone speaking to her. Funny, she'd thought that she was alone. Had she really been so out of it that she hadn't noticed someone else had joined her? She supposed it made sense. She wasn't exactly doing well here. She missed her dad, and she was worried about what was going on at home. She was supposed to be enjoying her last summer before college, not stuck in this town nearly 8 years into the future.
She'd tried so many times to get back there, but always ended up back at the tree. It was so frustrating, but she finally had to accept that she was stuck here for now. Freaking out about it wouldn't change anything. Not that that had ever stopped her before. She had no idea what she was going to do, if she was stuck here indefinitely. It didn’t look good so far, that was for sure. From what she could tell, this had been going on at least a month or so.
She was more surprised by the face she saw, than the fact that he'd actually managed to sneak up on her like he did. It was the first familiar face Veronica had seen since her arrival here, and she was relieved to see him now. Or who she thought was him anyway. The possibility of the guy not being Logan Echolls never even crossed her mind. Maybe it would have if she’d noticed that other people here seemed to have doubles.
"When did you get here?" Veronica asked. Because this was definitely the first time she'd seen him, and she'd been here for weeks now. Far longer than she had wanted to be. But maybe if Logan was here too, she wouldn’t be as miserable.
Josef was a little thrown off by the blonde’s reaction to him. It was as if she knew him already, but he was very good with faces and couldn’t seem to recall hers. He was pretty certain he would have remembered her. She was attractive and her confidence would have cemented the memory of her in his mind.
“Not long ago.” He answered simply, then quirking an eyebrow at her. No, he didn’t know her. So how come she seemed to be familiar with him? She wasn’t talking to Josef like one would talk to a stranger. Perhaps she didn’t think of him as a fond friend, but she acted as though they should at least have known each other by name. “I’m sorry. Have we met?”
Part of him was hoping that he was simply spacing out. Chances were, if he knew her then she knew his secret and maybe she’d even let him bite her once upon a time. That was his hunger wishing for that possibility.
“Come on, that’s not funny.” Veronica said, she was actually tempted to punch him in the arm. “I’ve been on my own here for weeks, and you’re the first familiar face I’ve seen so the I don’t know you routine is not going to work.” If anything, Veronica though that Logan should be happy to see her, thrilled even. Was she missing where they were from? Or was it like they weren’t even really gone?
What was the most disturbing is that he genuinely seemed not to know her. But that could easily just have been a joke or something. “I know we haven’t seen each other since the airport, but don’t tell me you really forgot me already. It’s hardly my fault that I was whisked away by a magical tree stump.” If he was mad, he needed to cut her a break, because it was not fair. She had no control over this.
“I don’t know how to get us home, but I’m working on it.” What she didn’t say was that she hadn’t made any progress. Veronica Mars didn’t accept defeat. No way. She was going to solve this little mystery, and get them back where they belonged. “In the meantime? Suck it up, buttercup.”
Josef let out a humorless laugh. This was all so weird. She seemed glad to see him, at least. It would have been a little too much if somehow she knew him and was also pissed off at him. He could only handle one inexplicable thing at a time. Trying to figure out how he knew the mystery girl was his problem at present.
“The airport…” He wrinkled his eyebrows. Either she was screwing with him or he had some kind of weird, possibly human doppelganger roaming around and making friends with attractive blonde humans. Neither possibility was inviting. He hated being screwed with and he liked being the one and only Josef Kostan out there.
“Buttercup?” A look of slight disbelief crossed his face. “Okay, blondie, I don’t know what distant cousin of mine you’ve been talking to, but it wasn’t me.” He said it firmly. This was upsetting him more than he cared to admit.
“You’re serious aren’t you?” Veronica said, embarrassed now. “You look just like my...friend, Logan.” She had hesitated on the word friend, and almost said boyfriend. She wasn’t that surprised, she supposed. Sometimes people here looked alike, or something. Maybe she’d just hoped he was Logan.
“Sorry about that.” She said, this was really kind of awkward now. This man was not Logan Echolls. She felt her heart sink. She’d been here for a couple of weeks now with no one knowing her, no one she knew showing up. She’d really thought he was Logan and that she wasn’t alone anymore. Not that she’d be admitting that out loud, but she was sort of disappointed about it all.
“Let’s start over, I’m Veronica. And I guess it is a nice night if you’re into the whole being held against your will thing.” It was pretty clear that she wasn’t happy here. And this little mix-up, hadn’t helped in the least.
“As a heart attack.” He quipped with a trace of a smirk. “Your very attractive friend Logan?” Josef had a bad habit of taking nothing seriously until the situation had gotten out of hand. He’d quip to his grave and not see anything wrong with it. That was just the way he was.
“No need to be sorry.” He gave an uncharacteristically comforting kind of smile. Sure he’d joke about what they’d just been through with her mistaking him for a friend, but he didn’t want her to feel bad or awkward about it. The feelings of human beings were low on his list of priorities, but he liked this one. She was spunky and had the potential of being entertaining at least.
“Josef Kostan.” Josef nodded, then quirking his brow at her comment about being held against her will. “Held against your will? Humor me. I’m the new guy in town.” If she was serious and they were in fact trapped in the sleepy town he knew there would be issues beyond getting hungry.
Veronica laughed at his comment about Logan being very attractive, of course he’d think so. She’d heard about some people having the same face here, but she hadn’t given it much thought until now. He really looked just like Logan, maybe a slightly older version of him, but still. And now she’d made a complete ass out of herself. Nice going, Veronica. But he didn’t seem to be mad about it, and so she wouldn’t make a big deal.
“Yeah, no one can leave. People just keep showing up.” She sighed. “I’ve been here for a couple of weeks now. And I’m not the most friendly girl around. I can be pretty...prickly.” She told him, shaking her head a bit. She hadn’t made a huge effort to get to know anyone here. She thought she was content on her own, but clearly she wasn’t. She had so desperately wanted Josef to be Logan.
“It’s nice to meet you, Josef Kostan.” She told him. He probably was not going to like it here. He didn’t strike her as the kind of person who liked to be trapped anywhere. “Hopefully the rest of the town will be more welcoming than I am. But like I said, prickly.” She offered him her own small smirk, doing that trademark head tilt of hers.
He took note that she didn’t argue against him saying that he had an attractive face, but at the same time he didn’t push it. He didn’t want Veronica to be sick of him only moments after really meeting him. For whatever reason, he liked her. Josef also wanted her to like him.
“Magic? God, I hate magic.” He rolled his eyes and sighed uneasily. There was little magic left in the world. So little that he’d thought he’d never have to deal with it. Of course he would be drawn to a town with magic coming out of every pore. Making things even worse, the town looked exceptionally wholesome. Not the greatest place for a native of Los Angeles to hang out.
“I’ll take prickly over syrupy sweet any day.” He smiled. It was the truth. Josef hated overly pleasant fakes. He dealt with them at business meetings and on poker nights. Usually they were people hanging around him for his money, slathering him with false compliments and wearing equally false smiles.
“So...magic actually exists where you’re from?” Veronica asked, clearly intrigued. “Because it doesn’t where I’m from. Illusions maybe, not real magic. And certainly not a magic tree stump that brings people from all over. That’s completely new.” And if she weren’t here living it, she’d never have even believed it. So she hardly expected Josef to, right away.
“But it’s not so bad here, I guess.” Veronica nodded. “I’ve been in some worse situations before. She absolutely didn’t belong here, but there wasn’t anything she could do about it. And really, did she belong anywhere? She was basically a social pariah. Maybe things would be different in college, if she ever got to go. “You might want to try and get comfortable, though.” She pointed out. “It’s not likely you’ll be going anywhere for awhile.” She hadn’t. And she knew several others had been here longer. That had to be pretty hard on them, but some of them had probably gotten used to it. Veronica didn’t think she could, but time could change that.
He needed to backtrack a little. Veronica didn’t know that he was a vampire and as far as he knew she couldn’t know. Oh, he liked her, but he wasn’t sure if he could trust her just yet. “I meant illusions. Criss Angel crap. I imagine that so-called real magic would be even worse.” Josef scoffed quietly, hoping he’d covered his tracks well enough.
“It’s not LA.” He said in response to her saying that it wasn’t bad where they were. It could have been a very nice little town, but Josef’s standards were different from a lot of people’s. He’d spent most of his years in bustling metropolises. This was not Los Angeles. It wasn’t New York City or New Orleans or London or Paris, either. He wanted a high rise up above busy streets. A city with a heavy homeless population and plenty of criminals he could feed off of and not feel bad for doing so. Not that he ever really felt bad for indulging his hunger.
“Just because you haven’t found a way back doesn’t mean I won’t.” He said it stubbornly with a smile on his face. Josef would be looking for a way out. If he didn’t have freshies in town it meant that he would be hungry and weak within days. He didn’t have long to get out.
