CHARACTER INFORMATION NAME: Selene Gallio CODENAME: Black Queen AGE / DATE OF BIRTH: Undetermined at apx. 17,000 years - Reincarnated to be a 16 year old girl / will celebrate a birthday for herself every January 1st SCHOOL: Xavier's GRADE: Senior HOMETOWN: Central Europe somewhere SEXUALITY: Heterosexual APPEARANCE: With clear water eyes, almost transparent blue, that turn red when she's using her powers, Selene is delicately made with a slinky frame that houses more power than it appears. Her skin is flawless and ivory with the musculature of a ballerina, and just as light on her feet. Selene's raven black hair is so dark it appears bottomless, like gazing into a black pool. She wears it down and loose, generally, and it falls straight down her back and shoulders to almost hip length. Selene sometimes styles her hair into elaborate braids and knots that form elegant displays in an art form of some long extinct people. The narrow face and high cheekbones set her apart in a category of rare beauty with severe features that emphasize her scathing looks and withering regards. This severity can be melted away when Selene smiles - either a true or a faked smile - and that's when she looks the most like the 16 year old she is reincarnated to represent. Rarely, if ever, does Selene have a true smile these days, however. She is a modest height of 5'7 and will wear expressive makeup and nail polish colors. Dark is her preferred color, with most of her clothing being either black or dark shades of the cooler portion of the spectrum. The color that she does wear that is bright is in her jewelry, which she adores, and Selene is always found with some form of silver and diamond on her person, finding that it compliments her skin tone and coloration in general. Sometimes Selene accents her outfits or hair with raven feathers; a strange custom of hers that she sees no need to explain to anyone. She wears her Xavier's uniform properly, if a little on the short-skirt and low shirt side. No harm in tempting a wandering eye with a peek. PERSONALITY: Selene is not a ray of sunshine. Constantly disappointed and unimpressed with those around her, Selene is a critic, a cynic, and a pessimist. She is too wise to believe there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The Black Queen is here to tell you that it's just a train coming at you. Soul-weary, is a way to describe her. She's just done with having higher expectations of the world. Hope died a long time ago in her. Hope leads to disappointment, invariably, and she is far too smart to allow herself to fall victim to that endless rotation of breaking and rebuilding trust. She'd rather just do without. There are those that she allows to glimpse her world, however. They are select and chosen and privileged to be in her world. These people she would rather do without, but for one reason or another, much to her seething displeasure, she needs them. Selene has a cruel sense of humor and while she regularly decides most people aren't worth her time, making others just as miserable as she has been is one of her hobbies. If slighted, she will drag the individual through the mire until there is nothing left but skin and bones, and then she'll smile that smile that doesn't quite move her lips, and devour the rest of them. Forever hungry, never allowed to be completely satiated. It is her punishment for tempting the gods. Selene is in a constant state of agitation, but masks it well and puts on the face of a girl trying to find her way through the world like any other teenager. As she grows to understand the implications of her imprisonment in her new reincarnation and what she needs to do to get out of it and back to full power, Selene will lose her cool on more than one occasion. Gods save the soul caught in her path. MUTATION/POWERS: Selene's mutation by way of her immortal External heritage (albeit the reincarnation of) means she can, and needs to, extract the life force from other living things, namely people. Mutants, humans, or otherwise are her main source of energy. She must feed regularly on this life force in order to stay alive. It is the curse given her by the gods who damned her to a mortal existence until she learns her lesson - however long it takes. To perform a life force drain on another individual, she needs to be in physical contact with them. Another aspect of her mutation is blending with shadows. Selene is able to bend shadows, morph them to her will, warping them to help her blend and hide and mask her presence. This is harder to do in full daylight with fewer shadows. She is physically more powerful than a normal human woman, more durable and with faster reflexes, but nothing up to par with someone like the Beaubier twins for speed, or Captain America for durability. Her enhanced strength is also diminished in this reincarnation, but still greater that that of a normal human, allowing her to lift up to half a ton (1000 lbs.). Because of the life energy she can drain from people, this enables Selene to heal rapidly, even from otherwise fatal wounds. If she is low on life force, then this slows her healing process and she becomes more vulnerable. Selene is a telepath. She is able to listen to and communicate with others psionically, though the distances she was able to achieve in previous incarnations has been drastically reduced, making the maximum distance of her telepathy skill to be a a forty mile radius. Selene can appear and survive in Astral form, but this, like all of her powers, is dependent on how much life energy she has. The more of her powers she uses, the more life energy it drains from her and she must recharge or lose her powers entirely until she can feed again. As such, Selene conserves her powers, using them sparingly. Selene is telekinetic. She has complete psionic control over inanimate objects and can move them by projecting her absorbed life force into them. Her telekinesis also gives her the ability to cause inanimate objects in her presence to disintegrate. SKILLS/ABILITIES: Cool and calculating, Selene is capable of remaining calm in tense and chaotic situations. She is manipulative and can use people to pit them against one another or make them believe she genuinely cares for them in order that they will do her bidding. She plays the damsel in distress very well, and men have been known to fall for her wiles only to be destroyed. As a teenager, she uses these same tactics and blinds and misleads wherever she goes to her advantage. HISTORY: Originally, Selene Gallio was born 17,000 years ago. She killed her entire tribe with her mutant ability of life absorption and, hungry still, wandered into the world like a wraith for centuries. Intelligent and a survivor who desired power, craved it, Selene manipulated and seduced great leaders in history, including those in Rome. She found a particular fancy for the Roman culture and way of life, that is to systematically take over weaker people and countries, drain all their resources, build them again, stronger. Only this didn't always work. She left men, weaker men in command and they screwed up, wrecking her work. Frustrated, Selene took matters into her own powerful hands and created Nova Roma in modern times, making it the perfect empire where she was worshiped as a goddess and uninterrupted for a length of time. She ruled the people there, planting in their minds exactly what she wanted them to hear, feel, think. It was her playground, she was their Dark Priestess, and she loved it. At some point, sacrifice is required and Selene prepared the perfect victims, one per generation and each one a virgin, pure of heart and all that sappy bullshit. They were brought to the volcano and tossed inside, given to her in devotion by her people. Selene delighted in this. Her mutation of needing to consume life energy meant she required constant sacrifice and rarely, if ever, did her victim survive. But the sacrifices to the volcano were purely for her entertainment and for her people to prove their utter obedience to her. Until one came who would not die. But by then, Selene was overcome with power. But it still wasn't enough. She wanted more and more and was intent on becoming a goddess in actuality, not just by controlling and deceiving the minds of weaker humans. She needed more souls to feed off of and went into the world again, leaving behind her toy land Nova Roma to harvest, sending underlings to bring her a ritual dagger to make the transference to true immortality complete. However, her activities alerted the attention of the actual gods. They frowned upon her intent, knowing that Selene Gallio, as a goddess, could bring about great imbalance and destruction to the order of the world. As the ritual began, and Selene had several thousand souls gathered to feed from, Roman Gods appeared and disrupted the proceedings. They chastised Selene and smited her with a curse. Rather than become a goddess as was her design, the gods made her mortal, forever reliant on those she would destroy in her path to godhood. And they made her a girl, a 16 year old girl who did not remember the great expanse of centuries upon centuries she had lived and learned and lost. She was reborn, reincarnated, and sentenced to live her penance as a teenage girl atoning for her crimes by learning to live amongst mortals as one of them. The hunger was still ever present and, should she not be fed on the life energies of those around her, she will become weak and even, much to her great terror, die. Her powers which were cultivated through 17,000 years of life and practice, particularly those of magical abilities she had developed, were stripped completely away or down to the bare minimum, the basics of what she had been born to as one of the first mutants in existence. Which means she is now only a fledgling telepath, an infant at using the life energy she draws from others to heal herself when damaged or to restore her faculties. Flailing, lost in a world she no longer understood or could control, Selene was still a potentially volatile figurehead to the future of mankind and the genius of Charles Xavier recognized this. He also recognized the potential of turning her abilities to the greater good, reshaping her into something better than the old Selene. While not naive, Charles has endless hope and optimism in even what seems to be the worse cast scenarios. He plucked Selene out of her sea of misery and, much to her great surprise and initial mistrust, offered her solace. The Xavier school was a place for mutants like her who needed help and she was better off there than finding her own way in a world growing increasingly mistrusting of mutants. Selene Gallio arrived at the school, hesitant and distrusting, but quickly looking for allies and a means to feed her hunger. Selene must attend weekly sessions with Charles Xavier where they walk together in the Astral plane, discussing philosophy and Xavier continues to steer her, mostly, on a path that will not lead to the decimation of a people. These sessions will be a check, of sorts, on keeping Selene from digressing too far into her old ways. As an answer to her need to feed off life force to survive, Charles and staff who are in the know provide Selene with just enough to live on, but not enough to grow too powerful from. MISC. INFO.: - Selene's memories of the past 17,000 years are vague and sometimes she'll recall random facts in history that make her marvel at how the world has changed. - She does not remember Amara or Nova Roma, but that might also be a memory recall she has - While not exactly shooting rainbows out her arse, Selene is also not a villain out to kill everyone. She is out for number one. And she wants revenge on the gods who thwarted her plans. Anyone who she thinks can help her survive long enough to get there, she will protect. - While Selene can "suck people dry" of their life energy, she can no longer drain them completely unto death since her reincarnation, much to her chagrin. PLOT IDEAS: - Meets Amara, who recognizes her for who she used to be. Dramz! - Frenemies. Lots of Frenemies - I'd like to see Selene do something good, out of the goodness somewhere deep in the dark recesses of her burned up heart, for someone. She's been given a new lease on life and knows how it feels to be dragged through the mire. - Selene is not evil, she's just unhappy with her lot in life. That being said, she'll take pleasure in scaring the pants off of people.
