Character Name: Ophelia Tombs Age: 29 Species:Currently: Ghost; Soon: Human; Witch Gender: Female Sexuality: Heterosexual Inventory: None to speak of, beyond the clothes that she died in: a white dress, with matching flats.
APPEARANCE/PERSONALITY/POWERS
Appearance: Ophelia stands at 5’6”, has black hair and brown eyes. She tends to dress in her moods. If she’s feeling down, she’ll wear subdued tones, but if she’s happy she tends towards brighter colors, either floral print or white dresses. She died wearing a white dress.
Personality: Ophelia has always been passionate in her beliefs and questioned the nature of things. She never lost her desire to make things better–even later in life, but she also learned from a young age who to express those questions to and that sometimes, things just took time. After her death, the world moved around her and she became less concerned with what she said to others. She was told to be mindful of what she said during life, but after her death, well; who was going to hear her?
Powers & Abilities: She has the ability to infuse objects and foods with her spells. She also has mild mood manipulation abilities.
History: Ophelia was born in 1921. She was raised in a large family and spent a lot of time with them (along with extended family: primarily cousins who were more or less the same age as her). She was raised to be mindful of how to conduct herself around others and to never travel alone (and certainly not at night). She was particularly close with her mother and grandmother. She was taught spellcraft and how to cook and while she was encouraged to be herself, she was also reminded to keep a level head on her shoulders.
While it’s fair to say that WW2 hit many hard, it was painful for Ophelia to see so many men in her family go to war with very few to return. The family endured many hardships, but never lost their passion for life.
When the war was over and the men (those who remained) finally came home, as a means to help the family financially, Ophelia took a job as kitchen staffer at the Crimson Woodland Hotel and for the most part she kept to herself and did what she was told. Over time, however, she developed a deep love for a boy. He was handsome and kind and never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was also white. While interracial marriage became legal in California in ‘48 - a stigma still remained in the community.
Thankfully, Ophelia and Thomas were both raised by loving and accepting families and were encouraged to marry and ‘have many babies’. Ophelia intended to finish one final meal at work that day, then? Well, they were going to get hitched. She couldn’t have been happier. She was doing the work that she loved and was about to marry the boy that she loved. Life was perfect. Of course, life never turns out how you expect.
Ophelia has been haunting the kitchen of the Crimson Woodland Hotel since the summer of ‘51. She has no memory of how she died and is not sure if she should consider that a blessing or a curse.
