Danielle Félicienne de Mortmoncey
’Cause I’m just a little girl you see, but there’s a hell of a lot more to me Don’t ever underestimate what I can do, don’t ever tell me how I’m meant to be The Basics FULL NAME: Danielle Félicienne de Mortmoncey DATE OF BIRTH: April 16th 2006 AGE: 20 BLOODLINE if applicable: Muggleborn from a squib line (see history). SEXUALITY: Heterosexual MAJOR: Wizarding Languages (aka Ancient Linguistics) EXTRACURRICULARS: French club, she sometimes sits in on the feminist collective meetings and was asked to submit an article to the student literary magazine about the pressures of juggling studying and her team responsibilities, but funnily enough, she didn’t have time to finish it until the holidays. FORMER HOUSE if applicable: Ravenclaw PLAYED BY: Emily Browning [And in her natural brunette state] Appearance At 5’2, Dani is wee, but packs a lot into her insubstantial height. Growing up helping out around the family farm has given her more strength than people expect. She’s rounded into an hourglass figure, all flowing curves and a little waist, and is blessed with a well endowed chest. Dani’s delicate features and colouring have a lot to do with how people perceive her; she looks a lot more like a pretty porcelain doll up on a shelf than a farm girl. She has her maman’s green eyes, long lashes, and full lips that are quick to quirk into smirk or smile. Favouring pigtails, she always has a spare hair elastic or two about her person. Naturally a brunette, Dani wanted a change and has taken to charming hers platinum blond over the last few years. Her style of dress depends on where she is and what’s going to happen. At home or when relaxing she’s all about practical comfort, mostly jeans, tee shirts and jumpers or hoodies. Dani loves shoes, but doesn’t own nearly as many pairs of high heels as she’d like to. If she’s dressing up, the blond will almost always favour a dress, but eschews anything too clingy for pieces that flatter her silhouette. They take much longer to find the in shops, but she’s learning that it’s worth the effort to dress for her body type. Tailoring spells are some of her favourites, especially with the near-constant need to take up hems. When she signed to the Wasps, Dani had a small set of wings tattooed on her back. She’s thought about a few other designs, but so far she’s resisted the urge. History. PARENTS: Mother: Joséphine Claudette de Mortmoncey (nee Moyet) - 53, primary school teacher, French muggle Father: Alexander John de Mortmoncey - 55, dairy farmer, muggle SIBLINGS:Brother: Robert Gérard - age 27 - fromager (cheese steward) for Gauthier in Soho, one of London’s top restaurants. Brother: Roland Marcus - age 23 - Policy officer in the Home Office. HISTORY: To more recent times. Rodger de Mortmoncey, currently the head of the family farm, (which will most probably pass to Dani’s cousin Joel) was in Paris for a long weekend to watch the end of Le Tour de France when he made the acquaintance of school teacher Joséphine Moyet, daughter of the cellar master of the renowned Moyet Cognac. Rodger will tell you they kept in contact when he returned home, though in actual fact Joséphine spurned his initial advances, given the fact that she was already in a relationship. That union was not to be, however, and a few months after it sputtered out, she gave the tenacious Englishman a chance. Two years later they were married, and soon began raising a family, living with the Moyet clan in Saint-Sulpice until Rodger’s father took ill and the family relocated to England so that Rodger could take over the farm from him. Dani was eight at the time. The move was not especially easy on her (although they’d visited as often as they could) but as children do, she adapted in time. The youngest (and ever the smallest) of three, Dani denies the fact that she was spoiled, per se, but will admit she enjoyed a measure of leniency. She’s never known a home where she didn’t feel loved and safe, remembering sunshine and smiles and being chased through the vineyards and paddocks by her Dad and brothers, or snuggling in Maman’s lap with stories. She believes she got away with a fair bit, but a lot of that is down to her parents and elder brothers humouring her. And while humour her they did, they also taught her to punch and play poker, wrestled with her and expected the small girl to keep up with them if she wanted to be included in their play. Little legs couldn’t always carry her far enough, which led to pouting to her daddy on Dani’s part, but on the whole, she learned to be fast and fearless, giving anything the boys could do (especially if they said she couldn’t) a try. Being the oldest, Rob’s always been the more protective one, willing to help out when Dani needs it or grab something off a tall shelf she can’t possibly reach. Roland, whose closer age meant they spent more time together when Rob traipsed off to big school, is more likely to stand aside and make Dani do things for herself, see if she can rise to the challenge. This earned him a huff and a foot stamp, more often than not, but deep down she’s grateful that he forces her to prove herself and takes her seriously when she needs it. Odd things seemed to sometimes happen around Dani when her emotions flared. The day after he’d upset her, Roland woke up with bright blue freckles, and somehow the pumpkin she was served vanished from her plate without Dani ever suffering a bite. The explanation for these oddities came when the de Mortmonceys learned they had a witch in the family, an announcement met with surprise, pride, and a great deal of curiosity. Dani’s maman was exceptionally relieved to find there was an explanation for all the odd things her accidental magic caused (and that there wasn't something wrong with her daughter). While Joséphine never said anything to Dani about it, she nevertheless overheard her mother telling her father one night. Upset at the time, Dani has since begun to understand. Even after she’d received her Hogwarts letter and bought her wand, Dani still sort of doubted it was all real until a few weeks into her first year. She was a little anxious that over the summer between first and second year something would happen and she wouldn't be allowed back. Dani thrived at Hogwarts. It wasn’t that she didn’t feel she’d belonged in the muggle world; moreso that she was discovering a deep, essential truth about herself. There is so much about the Wizarding world she continues to find novel, amusing and exciting. She is grateful, however, for how she’s grown up, as she sees great advantages in being able to participate in both worlds. Of course she was homesick at first, but the excitement of learning how to use her abilities soon brought her through it. She owled home often, though. Dani settled in well, as even a magical school has all the usual nuances and rhythms of a herd of teenagers. For all intents and purposes a muggleborn, Dani had never flown until she started at Hogwarts, and while she showed a natural aptitude, she wasn’t confident enough to try out for Quidditch until her third year Even shorter then, nothing much was expected of her. Dani found she rather liked it that way; being underestimated gave her chance to show what she could do, and though she didn’t make the team that year, the tiny girl got herself noticed. She flies more like a seeker, the position she was originally told to try out for, but relishes the role of defending her teammates and attacking their opponents as a beater. Dani is strong for her size (working around the farm and her own work out schedule saw to that), and her speed makes up for the power she lacks in comparison to bigger bodies. She made the reserve team, promoted to the starting lineup a few months in after one of the beaters was injured. She remained on the starting team for the rest of her Hogwarts career. Despite her diminutive stature, Dani’s passion, tenacity and talent impressed scouts that came to the house games, and upon finishing high school, she signed with the Wimbourne Wasps and was placed on their reserve list. She was also accepted into Wenlock College to study Wizarding languages, focussing on Ancient Runes, with some Latin and Greek on the side. She studies part-time to fit in her training schedule, and has so far made a few league games in each of her second and third years on the team. Last year she was part of the team for a game during the league finals, and while they lost to Kenmare, Dani’s never forgotten the sheer rush. Personality. For most of her life, people (other than her family) have underestimated Dani, assuming she would be unable to do things because she’s small, or female, or since she started at a magical school, muggleborn. Such assumptions have made her a determined individual, resolute that she’ll prove such detractors wrong. She doesn't always win out, of course, but more often than not she works hard to show that there’s more to her than meets the generalising eye. Being the baby of the family, Dani enjoys and knows how to get attention, but that isn’t to say she’s a show off. She does have an appreciation for quiet and solitude, and reads voraciously. This appetite for books has contributed to her quick wit; her humour tends to be snarky and sarcastic, though usually not mean (unless you deserve it or you’re too stupid to understand the joke in the first place). If you matter to her, or if she finds herself needing to be, Dani can be very sweet. There’s an easy generosity to her, and she’s willing to talk to anyone and give them a chance; Dani loves people and conversation. She’s steadfastly loyal to her friends and teammates, and tends to feel protective towards them, part of why she suits the role of Beater so well. On the other hand, if Dani doesn't like you, she doesn't usually bother making a secret of it. The joking wit can become a sharp tongue for those that anger her or hurt her friends, and she's certainly capable of manipulation if it suits her (or lashing out with her beloved bat). Depending on the offense, she can take a long time to forgive and quickly loses patience with those that don't share her blessing of Ravenclaw intelligence. Her maman’s family have been making Cognac since 1864, and after they moved back to England, many of Dani’s childhood holidays were spent with her cousins at the vineyards in Saint-Sulpice. Dani sees it as being as much a part of her as the dairy farm where her family still resides, and counts the sun-soaked south of France as her second home. All three de Mortmoncey children are fluent in French (and have at least one French name). When she’s angry or upset, Dani has a tendency to slip into French, and rarely notices the change, something which may benefit the listener if she’s particularly mad at them. Dani likes to flirt. She’s knows that if she wants to, she can use her looks to get her way, and deep down she likes the feeling of power that gives her. Almost unfailingly, peoples’ initial perception is that she’s sweet and innocent. Dani plays into this sometimes, aware that some guys want to corrupt that, or that others think it can’t possibly be true and she must be hiding a wicked mind and a knowing smile beneath her pigtails. She’s well aware that her physicality begets certain attitudes and it amuses her to toy with them. At the same time, she’s not some kind of feme fatale. With big brothers and a host of farm hands around at home, Dani grew up with a lot of male influence, and can kick back and hang out guys just as well as girls. Dani expects a lot of herself, which means when she feels she isn’t succeeding to the best of her ability, she can be unswervingly harsh, punishing herself and pushing further in an attempt to make up what she sees as lost ground. Sometimes she’ll catch herself at this, but at others she needs her friends to point out that she’s looking worse for wear or overworking herself. She’s very disciplined when it comes to making her team and study commitments fit and sometimes has to be reminded of a need to back off and take a break from them in order to be refreshed and capable of continuing to meet them. Likes: Quidditch, reading, ancient runes, when she’s ⅔ of the way through an essay and knows exactly how the rest of it will pan out, baking with her Maman, Stoke City F.C., riding her horse, bacon, the crack of her bat against a bludger, flying over the lake, the Wimbourne Wasps, cuddles by the fire. Dislikes: Pumpkin, people that don’t know where their food comes from, people that are afraid of dirt, small dogs, Tottenham Hotspurs, mornings, the Montrose Magpies, misogyny, high shelves, most of her brothers’ girlfriends. out of character.
