HISTORY/PERSONALITY/SKILLS/INVENTORY you'll never leave Harlan alive... History: https://justified.fandom.com/wiki/Rayla Personality: Old Style Lawman- Raylan is a US Marshall who would probably be just at home in the 1880's as he is right now. Sure, he'd miss the various social and technological advances, but in terms of his job, he'd fit right in. Raylan has an intense sense of justice at the bedrock of his personality, forged in his childhood as he saw his abusive father go in-and-out of jail for his various crimes. If there's one thing Raylan wants to be, it's different than his father. He wants to stand for something. To protect those who can't protect themselves. And his years with the Marshals have given him the opportunity to pursue that. It just so happens that his methods are more direct than his superiors would like. He's been involved in over a dozen shootings in the line of duty, whereas most cops never even draw their gun. He's a magnet for violence, and it's a purposeful choice on his part. On several occasions he'll face off with a crime boss or his henchmen, and essentially goad the other man into drawing first- allowing Raylan to put him down. This sort of attitude has earned him respect from some within the Marshals, but hatred from the higher ups. Sardonic Intensity- Raylan Givens is a languid, laid back sort. In general life, he's been like a Southern Bugs Bunny. Not much phases him, and he always has a wry observation to make about most situations. Even when walking into a room filled with armed men, he'll take his time, a knowing smirk on his face, and order a drink like nothing was the matter. He might make a quip to one of the men, before downing his drink. But beneath his calm, cool exterior is a fierce intensity. Raylan is sharp as a tack, and tougher than a coffin nail. He doesn't miss much, and when push comes-to-shove he'll take lives if he has to. Despite his general good humor, he takes his job extremely seriously, and will prove it with the barrel of his .45 if he has to. True Charmer- Raylan embodies the best qualities of a classic Southern gentlemen, but brings a progressive outlook and a dash of humor to his interactions. He embodies a sense of 'cool'. His job requires he interact with strangers of all economic and social strata, but Raylan manages to move amongst these groups with a confidence and ease that inevitabely leads to admiration. Shameless Flirt- Raylan loves women, and he'll take most opportunities he can to show it. This usually involves a well times compliment or two, or a subtle innuendo. To be clear, Raylan isn't a womanizer. He tends toward longer term relationships. But he can't help but indulge him a little when confronted with a certain type of strong, confident, and intelligent woman. One who is up for some verbal sparring and a nice glass of Jack. His weakness is such that female criminals of this ilk have gotten the drop on him on more than one occasion, simply by pushing his buttons until it was too late for him to react. Direct and Personable- Raylan tends to get along with most folks- even his enemies. He's all for sitting down and having a chat with the local drug lord, shooting the shit before he drops an unsubtle threat of what'll happen if he doesn't change his ways. With the many fugitives he's been called upon to hunt down, Raylan tends to get along with folks so long as they aren't murderous bastards. He likes to see the best in people, but his keen sense for bullshit means he has no problem calling someone a lifelong scumbag if he reads it off them. Daddy Issues- Raylan's father was an abusive, criminal piece of shit. Raylan did everything he did to get out and away from him, only to be forced to return years later. In the course of his work, Raylan spent years trying to put criminals from his hometown - including his Father - behind bars. They clashed more than once, Raylan put a bullet in his Dad's leg at one point. Eventually his father got himself killed, but Raylan's hate lingers. Years after his father's death confronted with a locker filled with photos, letters, pictures, and even dog tags from his father's time in Vietnam, Raylan burned it all with barely a thought. He even dug up the man's grave. So... yeah, some unresolved issues there. Ice Cream Connoisseur- Raylan loves ice cream. A LOT. Abilities/Training: Quickdraw Master- If there's one thing Raylan Givens is (in)famous for, its his quickdraw. On countless occasions, he's demonstrated his ability to outdraw multiple opponents and display unerring accuracy with pistols. Marshal Experience- Raylan was trained as, then served as a US Marshal for 12. He was actually the firearms instructor at the US Marshal's HQ for 3 years. He also gained a wealth of experience in hunting down fugitives in his role as a US Marshal. Dog Handling- For the first 4 years of his service, Raylan was a K-9 unit. He was taught to train a dog partner; to work together as a team; they served in a variety of environments, searched for drugs, explosives, and to track down/attack enemy units. Backwoods Upbringing- Growing up in Harlan gave Raylan a variety of experiences, and he knows a thing or two about a thing or two as a result.
