FULL NAME: Sirius Orion Black NICKNAME: AGE / BIRTHDATE: 28 | September 14, 1959 BLOOD: Pureblood SEXUALITY: Bisexual MARITAL STATUS:Married to Lily Black nee Evans OCCUPATION: Head of the Black household -- aka, Sirius primarily is living off the wealth that his family has left for him. He's devoted himself almost entirely to studying his father's library and learning new spells so that he can better protect Lily and their home. He will do a spare bit of mechanical work on the side when he feels like it, but it's difficult for it to keep his attention for overly long. SCHOOL / YEARS: Hogwarts, Gryffindor, 1971-1978 SCHOOL ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Graduating. |
APPEARANCE |
APPEARANCE: As much as he may hate it, Sirius looks very much like a Black. True to Black fashion, he has dark hair and the typical grey eyes. His eyes can often convey a great deal of emotion, anger perhaps being the strongest of all of them. He has high cheekbones which directly seem to link back to his aristocratic upbringing. However, all of his sharp Black features are offset by the fact that he has a rather wide and welcoming smile. (Although, admittedly, he hasn't had much cause to smile lately.) Sirius does tend to wear his hair a little long. Initially, it was done just to annoy his mother, but he grew to like the style. And now, more often than not, he can't just really be bothered to tend to it. It has quite a bit of body to it, and he has been known to wear it back every now and then. He prefers it to be a bit above his shoulders, but lets it go for too long sometimes, so it can tend to be a bit longer. These days, he also tends to have something of a five o'clock shadow, because he can't be damned to actually get around to shaving. Sirius is just above average height; he's a bit lanky, but still fairly muscled. The years on his own haven't exactly been kind to him, and they have worn on him badly. There's perhaps a bit too much wear on his face and not enough smile lines; he often looks a bit unkempt, and there's something of a distant expression on his face, but he's certainly still good-looking and recognizable as Sirius Black. Now that robes aren't required, Sirius rarely wears them. Probably the surest throwback to who he once was is what he wears. He primarily wears Muggle clothes, and often an oddly assorted lot. Among his favorites are combat boots, leather jackets, and jeans. Sirius has a single piercing in his right earlobe. He doesn't always remember to wear an earring in it any longer, however. One of the largest differences in his appearance since being taken by the Lestranges is the amount of tattoos that cover his body. He's gotten quite a few -- most of them are protection runes that are dotted across his body, including some that cover his collar bones. A few are ever made with the intention of enhancing his ability to cast dark magic. He still has quite good posture and was taught to walk upright; he tries to disguise this by slouching a little. It makes his shoulders a little rounded, but doesn't much to hide the fact that he's actually quite graceful. His speech also belays the fact that he had a good upbringing. In order to hide that, he throws in an excessive amount of slang and cuss words. PLAYED BY: Aidan Turner or Kit Harington |
PERSONALITY |
PERSONALITY: As someone who was generally a very person-orientated individual, being on his own so often has done very strange things to Sirius. That alone, honestly, would have been enough to unhinge him. The added pressure of constant dark magic and mind manipulation has done even more to eschew Sirius' personality. He is perpetually on edge right now, often springing from one emotion or mood to the next. It takes little to set him off, and it's incredibly difficult to predict how he will react to something. Sirius used to be a fairly easy person to get along with. He still does typically exude a laid back, lazy air. Very rarely does he seem to take anything with an air of gravity. This trait has become exacerbated by his isolation, however. It results in a certain air of arrogance, where instead of behaving as if he doesn't care about anything, he comes off seeming superior. In addition, he comes off seeming a bit of out of touch with the world around him, content to fall back upon his own ideals and schemes instead of dealing with the reality that's around him. While he used to be extremely extroverted, he's now become fairly introverted. He's content to remain mostly in Lily's or Bellatrix's company and rarely seeks out anyone else. He can now be on his own for days on end, really, before even realizing that he hasn't seen another human being. He's taken to talking to himself -- constantly trying to figure out new spells, forcing himself to remember what he needs to. In short, he's fashioned himself to need as few people as possible, unwilling to formulate any attachments that can either be used in betrayal, or be used to hurt him. He's distrustful and suspicious nearly all the time, especially of strangers. His rebellious nature is still quite pervasive. This indulgence tends to lead to him being brash. As the hat saw in him when he was younger, Sirius has little mind for being cunning. He prefers to take all problems, all things, head on. When he was younger, he had little patience, and in that regard, he's a bit better. He can plan things out long term now, but still has the tendency to act on impulse. He's a man of action rather than a man of thought, still. One part of Sirius that he can't ever seem to get rid of, and which, stems directly from his family's "darkness" is his temper. He can be nearly explosive when he's angry, with a definite tendency towards some violence. He's stubborn when he becomes like this and nearly refuses to see reason – there are very few people that can actually have a logical discussion with him when he's immensely angry. Due to this fact, Sirius also tends to hold immense grudges. It becomes very difficult for him to even consider forgiveness when he feels betrayed, but also has little problem with stereotyping an entire group of people merely to facilitate his own anger or discriminations. This side of him is one that he often has little control over. And, without any doubt, his own sense of darkness has become worse as he's been left to linger aside Bellatrix and trapped inside Grimmauld Place. His mental instability has led him to explore more Dark Arts, which, becomes a circle that turns round and round. He's obsessive in his need to protect Lily -- and in his need to formulate ways to exact revenge upon James and the rest of the Order. It would be fair to say that he's developed a side to him that has the propensity to be quite cruel and does desire bloodshed. He does have his rare moments when there's a gleam of his old self, where he is truly care free and is able to smile. Those moments usually come when he's just with Lily, and they're outside of Grimmauld Place -- or when they're riding the motorbike together. It's like how everything was supposed to be, when he's able to separate himself from all that darkness that has ensnared their lives. The surest sign, undoubtedly, that is the culmination of how his personality traits have become flawed is that he can no longer turn into Padfoot; gone is the carefree boy whose brashness occasionally got him into trouble. What now remains is a shell of a man, whose need to protect has become twisted into a cruel obsession with the Dark Arts. SPECIAL ABILITIES / TALENTS: Former metamorphmagus. Sirius hasn't been able to turn into Padfoot since he came to believe that James and Remus betrayed him. He has, however, greatly expanded his knowledge and ability of the Dark Arts. Through his natural talent and the sheer size of his father's library, Sirius can perform spells that most people have never even heard of by this point. His ability to cast stealth spells is also quite good, as he commonly uses them to go out in public. |
HISTORY |
FAMILY: PARENTS: Orion and Walburga Black - Sirius always had a difficult time getting along with his parents; he didn't believe in their pureblood teachings and has continually frustrated them by rejecting their notions of superiority. He has a greater respect for his father now that he's gone and that Sirius has been using his library so extensively. He's really more like his mother, but he's picked up some of his father's more obsessive habits, and through his misplaced paranoia, Sirius thinks that he can understand his father better. There's still little love for either of his parents, however, SIBLINGS: Regulus - Sirius' younger brother. They had conflicting viewpoints while they were growing up, but Sirius always felt responsible for him in a way. He was incredibly angry when he found out that Regulus became a Death Eater, and it was admittedly very difficult for him to deal with when he found out that his brother had died. It strengthened his resolve to work for the Order; at this point, his brother doesn't play a daily role in his life. He quietly misses him. COUSINS (and their families): Bellatrix Lestrange: Growing up, Sirius and Bellatrix were definitely more similar than anyone ever wanted to admit. They were close for a time, but their different ideologies eventually drove Sirius to despise Bellatrix. Now that she's the one who is often controlling him and wiping his memories, Sirius has some misplaced trust for her. She's often his confidant. He's still rather wary of the Lestrange brothers, although he hardly harbors the same animosity toward them that he once did. Narcissa Malfoy: Sirius was never very close to Narcissa; he understood her the least out of all of his family. He thinks that he could probably still see her now, but he hasn't had much reason to. Andromeda Tonks: Sirius' favorite cousin. He was closest to her growing up, and was glad to have something of a friend after they were both disowned from the family. However, he hasn't seen her since he came to believe that James and Remus were after him and Lily. Knowing that she might have some ties to the Order -- or the Order might be using her, Sirius wasn't willing to put Lily in danger to continue his relationship with Andromeda. He still misses her -- and Tonks -- a whole lot, but doesn't ever speak of it. WIFE: Lily Evans/Black - Sirius can't say that he exactly has a romantic love for his wife. But he feels a great determination to make sure that she's safe. There are moments when they certainly get along, but their relationship is rather complicated, and Sirius doesn't always have the strength to deal with it. OTHER: James Potter, Remus Lupin - Sirius' chosen brothers. However, Sirius know thinks that they both betrayed him, and he harbors an anger about their betrayal like none other. HISTORY: Sirius was not only the first child of Orion and Walburga Black, he was also the much anticipated first male of that generation. He was a relatively good baby – good enough, at least, that his parents were comfortable having a child soon after him. Even then, Sirius enjoyed lots of attention, which, as the first male child, he was apt to receive. However, Regulus was born soon enough after him that he doesn't really remember a time without his brother. It's as if they were simply always together. A younger brother, Sirius also learned, was a useful tool and companion. Sirius felt the need to teach his younger brother as much as he could, frequently using him in his games and his pranks against their mother. He was also an exceedingly useful scapegoat when the need for one arose, although very rarely did that actually work. While he was certainly in trouble a great deal while he was growing up, he doesn't remember being actively unhappy; he didn't realize he had an untraditional childhood until much later. His imagination (and his younger brother) gave him enough entertainment. As Sirius grew up, he was perhaps closest with Andromeda and Bellatrix out of his cousins, both of whom he listened to very closely, perhaps because they were so close in age and spent so much time together. Really, for Sirius, it was almost like he had three sisters in addition to a brother. Admittedly, he was always a little confused by Narcissa's behavior. He needed siblings who could keep up with him. However, his entrance into Hogwarts changed his relationship with nearly every member of his family. His admittance into Gryffindor was a surprise. At first, Sirius struggled to deal with it, not exactly sure how to behave in a house that had distinctly different morals and lessons than his own family and the house that correlated with it. In truth, it took him a bit of time to fit in. It was only with the help of the other boys in his year, especially James, that he began to fit in and truly feel comfortable and happy in Gryffindor. With this acclimation came the realization that his family and the way things were done within it weren't really typical. It was something he had perhaps been distantly aware, but he had never seen as a bad thing before – now, he was able to learn, for the first time, how other people grew up. This distanced him greatly from his parents – he began questioning them which was exacerbated by the fact that he enjoyed being in Gryffindor. As he became frustrated with his parents and his inability to see eye to eye with them, it affected his relationship with Regulus. While he endeavored to stay close to his younger brother, he didn't really know how to any longer. It seemed to Sirius as though Regulus was all too ready to side with their parents' version of the world. He still tried writing to Regulus, trying to show him that Hogwarts was more than he could have ever hoped for and that being sorted into Gryffindor hadn't turned out to be a bad thing at all. At the same time, Sirius started to realize that Bella was even worse than his parents; he began to hold her and what she was doing with a certain disdain. As they moved through Hogwarts together, their paths seemed to continue to drastically diverge. It was perhaps in Andromeda that he finally found the ally that he needed and that was partially because she seemed to be the only member of the family who didn't ostracize him for being in Gryffindor. While tensions within his family were growing, Sirius was beginning to learn how Hogwarts could really be a home to him. It was a strange juxtaposition. He wasn't getting along with his family at all, but he had never been more happy in his life. He had never felt more free. He and James grew close almost immediately. In the other boy, he found an intriguing counterpart, someone who could think on the same level as him, who could feed off his ideas and who had the same thirst for adventure and mischief. It helped him become drastically more outgoing. He also opened up a lot, as he found that there was very little that he couldn't tell James. School also came easily for Sirius – he found that he didn't need to apply himself too much to receive good marks. It left plenty of time for pranks, which he was certain chagrined Remus a decent amount. When Regulus arrived at Hogwarts, Sirius had hoped that his brother would join him in Gryffindor – but watched as he too fell into Slytherin. It was something of a hard blow for Sirius to take as it seemed that his parents' influence on his brother won out over his own. After that, more than ever, Sirius turned to James for things, beginning to see him as even more of a brother. He also got the opportunity to spend part of his summer with James's family, and instantly felt welcomed there – which touched him more than he would really say. He saw how James's family functioned, how loving his parents were, and how they interacted with James – hey treated him like a human being rather than something to be systematically programmed. James had choices, an opportunity to choose his own future, and develop his own morals. The ideas that were planted in his head during his early years of Hogwarts only seemed to flourish as he grew older. Of course, there were those who seemed quite adamant at ruining his enjoyment of Hogwarts, that were constant reminders of where he had come from. Severus Snape was the perfect example of that. He seemed to always know how to get underneath Sirius's skin. Whenever he was around, there was little Sirius could do but almost instantly lose his temper. As a result, he became the perfect target for Sirius's aggression. It was only exacerbated by the fact that James didn't care for him either. James's own disgust for Severus allowed Sirius to be more open in his own disdain, allowed him to carry his spells perhaps a bit further than he really should have. However, when he learned that Remus was a werewolf, it only seemed to underline the fact that his family was perhaps wrong in everything they had ever taught him. At the same time, he became rather obsessed with trying to find some way to help Remus through the full moon. It was something of an exhilarating challenge as well. For the first time, there was something that he actually had to apply himself for; it wasn't just another exam to study for or a charm he could learn within a few minutes. This was something he actually had to work at – and something for which he could actually see the benefits. Of course, it took quite a while, until their fifth year, for the Animagus spell to actually be perfected, but it was entirely worth it. He hadn't expected to be able to enjoy transforming so much. The first time he changed into Padfoot, it was liberating. Everything seemed simpler, more enjoyable. The first moon he spent with Moony, it never occurred to Padfoot to be scared of the wolf. He was simply his friend. He couldn't really describe how much he enjoyed spending the full moons romping through the forest, being able to share such a close, intimate secret with his friends. Their transformations, to him, became a personification of everything their friendships were really about. The Map also helped to prove that they were a group of friends that were meant to be together; Sirius loved working on the map – every part of it; being stupidly reckless with James when they wandering about and finding hidden passages with Peter. And even the parts when he was stuck in the library looking up boring spellwork with Moony. He thought it combined all of the best of their traits and also helped to leave their permanent mark on Hogwarts. While Sirius might have had to deal with his family, he always dwelled more heavily on the good times with his friends. He wasn't one to obsess over any of the bad things in his life. He had fun, made sure to laugh a lot, and was always plotting some ridiculous prank. As Sirius became older and more outspoken about the differences that had developed between his viewpoint and his family's, arguments had increased between himself and his parents – in particular, his mother. During the summer between his fifth and sixth year, they tried to reestablish some measure of control over him; his mother endeavored to try to get him to drop out of Hogwarts and to start taking his responsibilities as the Black heir seriously, going so far as to suggest that an arranged marriage soon wouldn't be out of the question. After an explosive and nearly violent fight over the matter, Sirius came to the realization that he would never be able to really live his own life as long as he also lived under their roof – that they would always try to control him. He wanted nothing to do with them or their plans. There was only one thing left for him to do, and he realized that it was a decision he had made long ago. He packed relatively little up and left his parents' house. The one regret he had was leaving Regulus behind, but he knew that he couldn't stay in that house any longer, not even for his brother. It was, in his opinion, the best decision he ever made. Essentially, he had no money and no way to support himself now, but James's parents were everything he had always really needed. They never begrudged him, never acted as if he had shown up in the middle of the night with just a few robes and what was on his back. They supported him and encouraged him. Sirius only become closer to James after living with him. He had, in a theoretical sort of way, known that James would be there for whatever he needed. He would consider James a brother after that and could only hope to prove himself in the same way to James one day. That summer was one of the best of his life. The tension that had loomed over him was finally gone. He was able to spend the entire summer daydreaming up a future motorbike, swimming, and chasing after birds. While the summer was wonderful, Hogwarts was different in many ways in the fall. The Slytherins, most of them having heard that he had left, made life harder than ever for him and Sirius reacted more violent, more harshly than ever before. He was almost scared of seeing his brother again, could only react by pretending that nothing had happened between them, which often led to the need to ignore his brother's existence. He seemed to be on edge a great deal even though he was immensely enjoying spending his sixth year with his friends. However, it was Severus Snape who once again tipped the scales for Sirius. During an argument, Sirius shared too much information about where Remus was. It was out before he could take it back and there was little he could to fix it then. That night drastically changed Sirius. He was aware of how badly he had betrayed Remus and struggled to make it up to him, to show that he was really better than how he had behaved that night. It made him mature somewhat. It made him realize that there were lines that could not be crossed and that he was old enough to know the difference by now – and perhaps, being aware of that was the only way he could end up setting himself apart from his birth family. He also saw something of a change in James as well – a maturation, but maybe in a different light. He didn't exactly understand, but he knew that they had been ushered into something resembling adulthood that night. As it was, he did work on having fun and making a lot of memories their seventh year -- and there is no denying that it was one of the best years of his life. But at the same time, he was already looking forward, accepting of the fact that he was going to need to fight in the war. He was prepared to protect his friends and now had the maturity he needed. He readily joined the Order after graduation, moving in with the rest of the Marauders and Lily. It took him a bit of time to get used to Lily, strange as it was to suddenly have to share his brother with somebody else. But the time after graduation, between living together and working for the Order, really helped Sirius appreciate Lily for her innate strength. He suddenly could understand what it was that James saw in her. He came to accept her, and even came to care for her. Even if it was still a whole lot of fun to tease her when he got the opportunity. There was no greater game than seeing her get angry. By the time James and Lily decided to get married, Sirius was already comfortable with the idea. It was obvious that it was going to happen, and Sirius now saw Lily as one of them. The separation wasn't as difficult as he thought it would be when James and Lily moved onto their own place, and he and Remus moved into theirs. He had his own personal trial during this time, as he found out that his brother had been killed. While Sirius had spent years pretending that Regulus didn't exist, it was hard on him to learn that Regulus had been killed during the war. Worse yet was not knowing what happened. He channeled too much of his anger into his work, and perhaps caused too many people to be wary of Sirius Black's temper. But, in an odd way, his own self-destructive tendencies were the only thing that got him through that time. And the worst was yet to come. What ended up being far more difficult was when a prophecy rose up, threatening Lily and James. His entire world was swiftly upended; for the first time, Sirius knew pure desperation, because he didn't know how to save Lily and James. He refused to lose either of them -- or their child. His godson. When it was suggested they all go into hiding, there wasn't a single question in Sirius' mind. He would do anything he could to protect them, including laying down his life. Intent as he was on the war, Harry came almost as something of a surprise. Sirius loved him entirely, and knew that he couldn't have loved him more if Harry was his own son. He truly cherished the time he had with him, being able to watch him experience the world for the first time. Sirius loved teaching him things, even if he was really too young to understand. Everything eventually came crashing down around them though. The Death Eaters came. And while Sirius fought to the best of his ability, it wasn't enough. He and Lily were captured by the Lestranges. And from there, everything changed. Sirius, along with Lily, had his memory wiped and modified. When he woke up, he believed that he was married to Lily; Bellatrix played upon a few very simple ideas that still existed in Sirius' mind -- that he needed to protect Lily, and some notion of kinship that he had once shared with her. Sirius had a difficult time accepting the ideas that were planted in his mind, regardless. He spent the first year being constantly submerged into new memories, and some of it even under Imperio. Eventually, Sirius' mind became damaged enough that something took root; he came to believe that he and Lily were married and that James and Remus were the ones that were dangerous. From there, Sirius cloistered himself. He sought out little company. He accepted Bellatrix as a confidant. He scoured his father's library for protection spells, for torture spells. Whatever he could find. He continued to modify the wards around Grimmauld Place. He modified his own body, ignoring the fact that he could no longer turn into Padfoot. He did whatever he could to protect Lily. It was an odd juxtaposition, where he both accepted and continued to deny his role as the head of the Black family. At the same time, he was a terrible husband. There was a perpetual rift between the two of them, that was perhaps only eased when they were only acting as friends, some echo of their past. But, the truth of the matter was, Sirius slept around quite a bit still. They were always people he didn't know, people he had no chance of running into again. But he wasn't faithful by any means. His life is now consumed by his obsessions. He practices dark magic without any hesitation, often enlisting Bellatrix's help. And yet, he has moments where he knows something is wrong -- and it's then that Bellatrix often erases his memories all over again. |

WHAT WORLD ARE THEY FROM? World 6, Kidnapped World WHAT YEAR ARE THEY FROM? July 1987 HOW DOES THEIR WORLD DIFFER? World page HOW DOES THIS CHANGE THEM? For starters, Sirius doesn't go to Azkaban, so that's a pretty significant change. However, instead, he's been trapped with Bellatrix (with whom he believes he has an alliance), believing that he's married to Lily. He's missing a lot of his memories from the last few years, and, as a result, has become obsessive, somewhat dark, and mentally unstable. Most of his darkness stems from an obsessive grudge he holds against James and Remus, thinking that they are the ones who put him and Lily in danger. |
