Ben's now the Head of of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes where he can easily manipulate any array of variables to cast Death Eaters in a more positive light and slander the Order of the Phoenix. Now, willing to trade his personal integrity, he's just hoping for a bit of stability in his life. BLOODLINE: Fullblood. WAND: Alder, 13 inches, phoenix feather, pliant. appearance. HEIGHT: 6'3. For more formal events, he tends to dress a bit better, dress robes are dress robes, but he doesn't enjoy their confining nature. PLAYED-BY: Jeff Goldblum EXAMPLE ICONS: Here! schooling. HOUSE: Ravenclaw. YEAR: 1962-1969. BEST SUBJECTS: Transfiguration, Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Defense Against the Dark Arts. Ben also had a keen interest in Divination, but he had no talent for the subject and only believes that true seers do. WORST SUBJECTS: Care of Magical Creatures, Herbology. KNOWS HOW TO APPARATE? Yes. KNOWS THE UNFORGIVABLES? Ben is well versed in the Unforgivables, although using one is always a maneuver of last resort for him. He could perfectly (and happily) describe the origin and history of each curse, although he's hardly a master when it comes to practical application. PATRONUS: A hawk. OTHER: Ben was Hogwarts Head Boy during the '68-'69 school year. personality. LIKES: Books, intelligent people, good conversation, writing, mysteries, solving puzzles, order and organization, equally interested in light and dark magic, magical theory, history, Divination (in theory). STRENGTHS: Observant, intelligent, incredibly independent, shrewd, discerning, industrious, clever, decisive, somewhat creative, investigative, unconcerned with his reputation, particularly adept at dealing with muggles, willing to follow orders (despite disagreeing with them), sympathetic, knows when to keep his head down, memory charms, quietly charismatic, dependable, well-versed in magical theory. WEAKNESSES: Can be indifferent or apathetic to matters which don't directly affect him, somewhat cowardly, willing to follow the crowd, morally flexible, compromising, relatively enigmatic, very closed concerning his personal life, often has his head in the clouds, doesn't always convey his ideas clearly, dislikes large crowds of people, tends to be more reclusive or introverted, runs from confrontation, somewhat delusional. MIRROR OF ERISED: Ben sees himself exactly in the position that he's in, although his life's unmarred by the Mark and his personal integrity is well intact. BOGGART: His children, Basil and Lenore, bearing the Mark, but then they become squabbling, happy children again. GENERAL PERSONALITY: Above all things, Ben Savage considers himself an intellectual person. He was always at the head of his class at Hogwarts, and despite not being the most physical being, Ben excelled at the Auror academy simply because he could easily outsmart criminals and predict crime patterns. He's always been good with puzzles, and becoming an Auror gave him plenty of puzzles to sort through. Later, after joining the Death Eaters, Ben began to work the other side of the puzzle, predicting the action the Ministry would against his newfound friends and stealthily doing what he could to deter their capture. He's well practiced in defensive magic, as well as the Dark Arts, but he'll always consider himself a student of the world. While not possessing the often violent and overly ambitious nature of the usual Death Eater, Ben still counts himself among their ranks. He's able to rationalize nearly every decision he makes into one that makes sense. Ben's sense of morality is flexible enough that he's easily able to justify his actions with a bit of logic, even if he doesn't quite seem to make sense to others. He doesn't really care about what other people think of him, and while he's never been entirely concerned with pleasing the people around him, he's smart enough to keep his more controversial and dissenting opinions to himself. If there's anything that comes naturally to Ben, it's self-preservation, and while his children could simply be viewed as an extension of that trait, Ben's children are really the only people he'd truly be willing to sacrifice himself for. Ben's sacrificed his personal integrity throughout the years, but masking that and hiding it from others has never been difficult for him. If anything were to ever happen to his children, the calm, cautious and private persona that Ben has carefully crafted from himself over the years would essentially crumble. Although secrecy has played a large role in Ben's life, he's a naturally private person. He can be charismatic when necessary, but the only enthusiasm he publicly displays is for his research or his work. Most people perceive him to be a bit eccentric, specifically concerning his prominent interests in magic affecting memories and the mind (and more privately muggle psychology) and perhaps emotionally detached, but Ben's perfectly fine with being viewed that way. history. PARENTS: Marius Savage (1926- ), an Obliviator and former Ravenclaw with several pureblooded family members, but a spotty family tree, and Antonia Selwyn Savage (1930-1996), a mediwitch, former Slytherin, and renegade member of the Selwyn family. Antonia fell in love with Marius, and they married without the Selwyn family's consent soon after her graduation from Hogwarts. SIBLINGS: N/A. SPOUSE: Carmen Avery Savage (1942-1992), the youngest daughter of the Avery family. Carmen was frequently sick, and Ben's relationship with her was mostly one of convenience, although he certainly loves her for giving him his children. She died at the age of fifty due to complications from a chronic undiagnosed condition. CHILDREN: Basil Mikhail (1974- ) Lenore Marcella Savage (1976- ) PETS: N/A. ROLE/POSITION IN WAR: Death Eater and Auror. Whenever possible, Ben did what he could to hide evidence which implicated his Death Eater friends in serious criminal activity, most often taking it upon himself to alter the memories of wintesses and victims or fabricate evidence. During the second war, Ben proved himself useful as a skillful duelist and a researcher of sorts for the cause, despite his less than stellar pedigree. He also played an important role in Voldemort's liberation of Azkaban as one of the few Death Eaters who actually had access to the prison. BRIEF HISTORY: paragraph format. should include at least a paragraph describing childhood, Hogwarts, and post-Hogwarts. you need to explain what happened to your character during the war, how they are taking it and where they are now/what they are doing. Although Antonia Selwyn loved Marius Savage with all of her heart, she still raised Ben, her only son, on epic tales of the Avery family, proudly recounting stories of the old family's prestige, purity and honor. She taught him about choices like the ones she'd made-- choosing to be with Marius because she wanted to be happy instead of choosing to take her proper place in society and live a life unfulfilled, choosing to work a less than proper job because she loved it instead of dedicating herself to controlling her family and her household. Ben learned that, more often than not, happiness and respect in society did not go hand in hand, and while he was never ashamed of his father, Ben decided that certainly any reasonable person could obtain both. So when Ben went off to Hogwarts and was sorted into Ravenclaw, the house's values of knowledge and wit gave him a path through school. He studied hard, was usually at the top of all of his classes, and dedicated his time to learning outside of the classroom. Despite not being the most social of boys, Ben made friends and connections at school, although his social life always came second to his school work. Ben was made a prefect in his fifth year, and the summer before his seventh year at Hogwarts, he became Head Boy. Ben finally had a place for himself, and he took each and every duty entrusted to him very seriously. As graduation approached, Ben was forced to consider many different employment options, but he had his mind set on becoming an Obliviator like his father. But as his seventh year of school wore on, Ben's attitude toward becoming an Obliviator like his father started to change, despite his fascination with memory charms. After all, his father, as much as Ben loved him, didn't possess the respect or position that Ben himself had always wanted, so instead, Ben turned his attention toward becoming an Auror. Spurred by a few supportive teachers, Ben entered the Auror training academy in the fall of 1969. Despite the initial shock Savage endured during his first weeks of training, the work was actually challenging, he persevered because quitting had never been an option. While he was training, Ben put aside his interest in memory work and obliviation techniques-- he simply didn't have the time for research as well as training. Around the time that Savage finished his Auror training, Voldemort's popularity had reached its peak. While not entirely enthusiastic regarding the cause, being an Auror, Savage was heavily recruited to join the Death Eaters. Any new follower was reason for celebration, but a man like Savage, somebody who knew how to use his head, had the right connections, something to gain, and somebody who didn't fit the stereotypical profile of a purist was a prize. So Savage joined the Death Eaters, not because of any personal sort of conviction, but because giving in and joining up was simply easier than dealing with constant harassment. After joining the Death Eaters, Savage was soon married to Carmen Avery. She was often sick, suffering from bouts of extreme fatigue and weak magic. She and Ben became good friends throughout their marriage, they had two children, Basil and Lenore, but Ben's family was never his top priority. His work and his research always came first, despite the shifts in Ben's personal loyalties. Now, instead of anticipating and predicting where criminals might strike to prevent tragedy, Ben found himself working in reverse, covering evidence and altering witnesses' memories in order to confuse his Ministry colleagues. It made the job more interesting, gave Ben a chance to get back to his research and actually put some of his interest in memory work into practice. Covering his tracks through the years was easy enough so that, when Voldemort finally fell in 1981, Savage was able to evade criminal charges resume his humdrum life with little suspicion. Living without Voldemort in the world was surprisingly easy for Ben. He didn't mourn the loss of the Dark Lord because he was happy to have a bit of normalcy in his life again, even if his job was suddenly a lot less interesting. There was little that Ben could do to mask the deeds of his fellow Death Eaters, so now it was their own fault if they couldn't keep themselves out of Azkaban, even if he did attempt to thwart attempts to capture them from time to time. Even though Ben enjoyed prosperity in the years after Voldemort's fall, he continued to keep his eyes and ears open for another uprising, even while he was stationed at Hogwarts, because he knew which side he was obligated to join. Meanwhile, Ben made plans for himself and for his children should such events take place. When Voldemort returned, it was time for Ben to put his plan into action. He secured jobs for his children and sent them overseas as soon as he possibly could, then he prepared to resume his previous role within the Dark Lord's ranks. When the time came, he assisted with the Dark Lord's liberation of Azkaban as one of the few who actually had access to the prison. Until the Ministry fell, Savage kept his head down, making minor contributions to the cause, enough to display his loyalty without bringing negative attention to himself, but once the Ministry fell, there was no sense in continuing the charade. Once Potter was dead, Savage was placed in charge of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. Having worked as an Auror for years, now working against many of his former colleagues, nobody, combined with Ben's natural instincts and intuition, was really better suited for the job. Currently, he's working to predict Order movements to prevent any sorts of public disturbances the group might cause. Ben's less confident in the strength of the current regime, and he's concerned with the public image, so he's doing whatever he can to bolster the Dark Lord's reputation and twist public perception into seeing the Order as a terrorist organization. writing sample.
