IC INFORMATION: CHARACTER NAME: Perseus Jackson FANDOM: Percy Jackson & the Olympians/Heroes of Olympus CANON POINT: Prior to Son of Neptune AGE: August 18, 1993 // 16 HISTORY: Wiki Link. PERSONALITY: Anything you think about the open ocean, you can pretty much attribute to Percy. He can be calm as a perfect sailing day, ready to be the perfect guide to help you on your way home. The next second, he can be unpredictable, a raging storm brewing in the distance, and your worse nightmare as he crashes over you. He can bring healing and happiness just as easily as he can snuff out your life with one devastating wave. He can be romantic in the light of the setting sun, and terrifying in the raging waves of the night. Within his depths he holds both the cuddly parts of him that make you want to dive right on in and take a look as well as the terrifying and deadly parts that keep most people as far away from the shoreline as possible. The biggest comparison between Percy and the ocean that his father calls his domain is the fact that you should never, ever underestimate either of them, because you will lose if you do. Percy is a brave individual, extremely spirited, and a natural leader. He is willing to sacrifice his own life for his friends, family, and even his enemies if that's what it comes down to. He is extremely sarcastic and has quite a smart sense of humor about him, which is almost ironic since so many people take his intelligence for granted. He certainly wouldn't call himself that smart - he was always a C- type of student - but he has outsmarted many enemies just on his wits alone. He is generally rather laid back, which is a good trait to have in this high stress life of being a demigod. There's something about Percy that tends to earn the trust and respect of those around him, even if the odds were against him. He is just a likable kind of guy, though don't be mistaken. Percy has plenty of enemies as well, and they aren't just of the "evil" variety. He is often taken as impertinent to authority figures, and sometimes, he just doesn't know when to shut his mouth. This has earned him some enemies that he probably could have done without - you really don't want the God of War on your bad side when you're in the middle of a war, after all. Always true to his word, Percy takes oaths very seriously. That doesn't mean that he's never broken a promise - Calypso is one such individual who has been hurt by Percy not being as good as he strives to be - but he certainly tries his best. He is strictly against bullying and because of this, he usually allied himself as a friend of the lesser fortunate individuals at his school. He didn't care about popularity; he just preferred protecting those that couldn't protect themselves. Percy's temper is also on the short end, being quick to light when his buttons are pushed and harder to diffuse. This is often when he will find himself running his mouth, damn the consequences. He doesn't necessarily have to be angry to do that, though. Sometimes, Percy just speaks without thinking. He has hurt people's feelings accidentally by doing this as well as made himself sound a little stupid at times too. He carries a "brooding" look that he apparently has inherited from his father and has had him branded as a rebel his whole life. He also has a rebellious streak that he proudly claims comes from his mother. Though he can act dumb sometimes (and sometimes says dumb things), he's actually quite smart. He's just a lot less book smart - why actually bother to read up on any of the things he needs to know when he has a genius girlfriend? - and more of a street smarts kind of guy. Even that doesn't help him when reading people's emotions, though, and he can often come off as a bit oblivious when it comes to their feelings. Despite this, he can be extremely perceptive when he needs (or wants) to be. Percy can be extremely moody sometimes, and the last thing he wants is to be forced to obey someone. Being a teenager, his romantic feelings are still a bit all over the place, but being targeted by Aphrodite who promised to make his love life interesting probably doesn't help. He's had strong feelings for three women in his life - Rachel, Calypso, and finally Annabeth - but for him, it always was and always will be Annabeth who he comes back to as far as he's concerned. The feelings he has for her are so strong that despite his memories being gone, her smiling face and the way she would kiss him when he said something stupid... That's the only thing he does remember. Despite being a leader at Camp Half-Blood, Percy is marked as a troublemaker in his mortal schools with a history of expulsion. His dyslexia makes learning and reading difficult, and his ADHD makes sitting still in class hard. Because of this, even after discovering why he was so wired all the time, he still finds it hard to force himself to sit still and concentrate on anything other than battle strategy. Due to his time out in this world with no memories thanks to Hera and the luck that brought him here to begin with, Percy has developed a bit of a "wolf stare" that says No matter how badass you think you are, I'm worse. This has been enough to scare off some of the more intelligent monsters that looked eager to jump him. Very little in this world scares him anymore, but he carries around a quiet sadness that comes from the knowledge that one day, he will face an enemy that he cannot win against. The majority of Percy's personality is embodied in Poseidon's better half: powerful but gentle and helpful, the kind of calming sea that would guide ships safely to shore rather than destroy them. But there is a darkness to Percy that really started to come out recently while traveling this world alone. He doesn't actually know if he's a good person, because he doesn't know who he is at all, and he'd truly never believe himself a hero. But no matter how hopeless and fearful he's felt at times, Percy was constantly strong enough to overcome it for the better. Fatal Flaw: All demigods have a fatal flaw, and Percy's flaw is his unwavering loyalty to his friends. At first glance, this does not seem like a flaw at all, but Athena once stated that Percy would sacrifice the world if it meant the ability to save a friend. As Athena once said, "the most dangerous flaws are good in moderation". BELONGINGS: Clothes on his back (jeans, orange Camp Half-blood t-shirt with the logo completely faded), Riptide - a pen that turns into a sword, a few golden Drachmas, and a cord necklace with four colored beads on it. SKILLS/ABILITIES: Note: Several of these abilities have not presented themselves at his point in canon, but Percy still has access to them, whether he knows it or not. As a demigod, Percy has a few abilities that are common among all demigods: ADHD - While not an "ability" at first glance, Percy's ADHD is actually a gift given to all demigods that stems from their natural instinct to do battle. It is not able to be "treated" with normal ADHD meds, leaving Percy at the mercy of his supernatural alertness and keen senses that help to keep him alive at all times. This also helps him to be able to analyze everything about a battle as its happening, as he is able to take in a bunch of details at once without losing focus, including but not limited to being able to read an opponent such as when their muscles tense when they are about to make a move. Dyslexia - Again, on the surface, this doesn't seem like much of an "ability," but it ties back into Percy being a demigod. His brain is hard-wired to understand Ancient Greek, making mortal languages a bit hard to decipher. He also seems to have a natural ability to understand Latin as well from his time at Camp Jupiter. It should be noted, though, that Percy's dyslexia seems to be pretty bad most days as he often has to turn to his fellow demigods for guidance on what something says. Limited Clairvoyance - Like all demigods, Percy's dreams are very rarely just dreams. They are often messages of current events going on in the world or past events or vague future warnings of what's to come. Being a son of Poseidon makes Percy's dreams even more unpredictable thanks to the sea's nature of having so many hidden depths, allowing Percy to view things that aren't supposed to be seen. Fighting Skills - Percy is a naturally talented and expert swordsman, able to hold his own against and even defeating far more experienced and powerful opponents, such as gods, Titans, and monsters. However, it should be noted that in pure skill alone, he does not match up to the likes of Thalia or Luke, and it's only his ability to use his powers to compensate for what he lacks that helps to give him the upper hand. This has come back to bite him when he was unable to use the sea to his advantage when a much stronger Son of Poseidon called the sea his own and was able to disarm Percy several times in a row. Above Average Strength - Percy has shown many times that he is much stronger than many kids his age, a trait that many demigods seem to share. He was able to hold up the weight of sky (though it took everything he had), rip off a Minotaur's horn, and even defeat a giant with only his sword and a god's bust. Empathy Link - Percy has a psychic connection with his best friend named Grover who is a satyr. This connection is said to be very dangerous as if Grover dies, he might take Percy with him. Despite this, they decided not to sever the link, though it is unclear how strong it is anymore since it has not been used in a year. As a son of Poseidon who is one of the Big Three, Percy is an extremely powerful demigod. He has been noted as having a very powerful "smell" that lets monsters know that a powerful demigod is nearby making him a walking target. Through both his father's authority and his own inherent power, Percy's other abilities include: Water-Induced Abilities - When Percy is recently hydrated or he is in contact with or in the presence of water, he is at this best, and his best is pretty damn good. He gains a disproportionate amount of added superhuman strength, clarity, speed, agility, and endurance to the point that he was able to overcome Ares (a god) at only 12 years old while in this state. However, this state only lasts for a limited amount of time unless he is submerged in water, and even then after stepping out of the water, he has been known to collapse from sheer exhaustion. Hydrokinesis - With the power of the sea within him, Percy can control every form and great volumes of water at once. He can control the water almost without limits. Because he is a son of Poseidon, salt water is definitely preferred, but he is not limited by the type of water that is around him. As he once said, he doesn't need an ocean at his back to kick someone's ass. Hydrogenesis - Percy doesn't even need any body of water to use his powers. He can just create his own, though it takes a lot of energy for him to do so. He does this by calling forth the "force of the ocean" from within. There doesn't even need to be any water in the air for it to work either. While standing inside of a volcano, he was able to call forth so much water that it caused an eruption. Healing Factor - As a son of Poseidon, Percy is able to heal most of his own personal wounds and injuries just by coming into contact with water. This also works for poisons. The worse the injury, the longer it takes, and sometimes the water is not enough, especially if he doesn't have the energy to make it work. Water Propulsion - Percy can control the water around him to propel him through the water at super fast speeds. He doesn't even really have to swim, as the water does most of the work for him. Underwater Breathing - Percy can breathe underwater as naturally as if he were breathing on land... usually. If the water is too polluted with evil, its too muddy, or its a magical water that refuses to allow underwater breathing, then he cannot. He can also create air bubbles that continually diffuse the oxygen from the water to allow his non-hydrokinetic friends the ability to breathe underwater. Water Immunity - Water does not cling to Percy and get him wet unless he wants it to. In other words, he can walk out from the bottom of the lake onto the shore and be completely dry. He is not affected by water surface tension, being able to fall from great heights into bodies of water without hurting himself. He also can dry items underwater as long as he holds onto it, allowing him to be able to even use a lighter underwater if he wanted to. Water Solidification - Not to be confused with turning water into ice, Percy is able to just gather water together to act as a solid material without it actually turning into one. He is able to use water as a shield as well as a type of constraint. He is even able to walk across water if he so wishes. Sailing Skills - Percy possesses an intimate awareness of any ship he is on (sailing ships, rowboats, rafts, motorboats, possibly submarines). He is able to telekinetically operate whatever ship he is on along with most things related to the ocean, turning a ship that would require 20 people to sail it into a one-man operation. Percy also has perfect bearings while at sea, allowing him to always have a perfect navigation for where he's going. Communication - Percy has a connection to and a divine authority over all marine life and equines that he comes across. For the most part, they treat him with deference and lordly respect. He can speak with horses (and other species of the equine nature) as well as most marine life both telepathically and normally. He can also speak with other children of Poseidon underwater telepathically, such as his half-brother Tyson. Limited Aerokinesis - Percy can summon hurricanes and other water-based storms, though the extent of which he can control them as of yet is unknown. This type of power drains a lot out of him over time, however, and it takes him a bit longer than normal to recover. Limited Geokinesis - As a son of the god of earthquakes, Percy has a limited ability to create some of his own. Much like with the storms, the extent of which he can control this is unknown as the one time he tried, he lost control and caused an eruption of a volcano (whoops). Limited Cryokinesis - Though ice and snow is not the same as water, when that is all Percy has to work with, he can use it to create an icy storm. He can also use snow and icy water almost the same way as he would use regular, just not as easily. Limited Electrokinesis - Percy has been known to create lightning accidentally while creating his storms, which help to amp up the power behind them. However, he seems to have zero control over this lightning, and it is merely a side effect of one of his other powers. Heat Resistance - Percy has a far higher resistance to heat than any normal person or even most demigods. This is due to his father's oceanic nature and perhaps because Poseidon is the father of most Cyclopes in the world (who are naturally immune to fire). He was able to survive being engulfed in lava that was thrown at him telekinetically, though it started to get painful the longer he was in contact with it. He even was able to survive a super-heated steam eruption of a volcano because of this ability. Limited Toxikinesis - Percy can control and manipulate liquid poisons. Poisons of the powder or food variety are probably beyond his capabilities, though that is still unknown. It is theoretically the liquid within the poisons that makes it possible for him able to control it, though whether this was a side effect of being in Tartarus (where the laws of nature were all sort of out of whack to begin with) or something he can do normally, that is still unknown. PLOTS: JOB: Farming. He'll be the human sprinkler. And he can help with the irrigation. Maybe help build a well, redirect underground aquifers or at least locate any that currently exist. Also -- be some obvious muscle that the farming team is currently sorely missing. Let's just ignore that Caroline and Cora could probably out-benchpress Percy without breaking a sweat. ;D But most importantly, Percy would also be a Trainee. He's built for battle and won't feel right without it. THREE THINGS: ( tell us three things you'd like to see plot wise for your character.) • one - Amnesia. Bringing Percy in with no memory is going to leave him with a lot of questions. He's going to believe he's from this decimated world, and he's not going to know what he is, who his father is, or any of it. I'd love for Percy to be at the receiving end of the sciencey people in the community trying to solve the mystery, figure out the reason for his memory loss, and to figure out what the hell he is. IN GAME HISTORY: Percy woke in this world with a gasp, and his eyes flying open. All he remembered was a whole lot of blank. He struggled to even remember his own name. He stumbled out of the house he found himself in and walked out to find a world destroyed. Frightened, alone, and on the verge of panicking, the only thing that moved Percy forward from that moment was the instinct to survive. The first monster that attacked him that he couldn't run from was in for a surprise -- along with Percy -- when instinct took over again, and he pulled out a pen as if it were a sword. Percy thought he was losing his mind, when the pen top fell off, and the pen became an actual sword. At that moment, Percy discovered that he was actually a pretty damn good swordsman. The sword didn't work on everything, which was weird, but his instincts and sword skills were top notch and kept him alive. He dodged from house to house, scavenging for food and water along the way, always letting his gut lead the way. He was just starting to think that he was the only person alive in the entire world when he came upon the camp. SAMPLE: (This is taken from another game.) That night, Percy dreamt. He hadn't wanted to. The second he had laid down in his cabin, his eyes watering from exhaustion but being forced open from sheer fear of what he would find in his nightmares, he had put out a little prayer to Hypos. Please, he thought desperately, feeling himself lose the battle with sleep as his eyelids started to droop, please don't let me dream. It was a desperate plea, and one that he knew would probably not be answered. More than likely, Hypnos was just as schizophrenic as the other gods as he fought between his Hypnos and Somnus forms, but that hadn't stopped Percy from hoping that his prayers would be answered. They weren't, of course. Percy should have expected it, and the second he saw the forests of Tartarus, he had known what was he was about to be shown. He felt himself grow angry as he walked through the black trees for the second time. He knew that the arai would come upon them any second. He had already lived this. He had already experienced the terror and pain that came from these moments that could have easily been his last. He already remembered the guilt that came crashing down upon him as Bob found out in the worst way possible that Percy was responsible for his lost memory. He knew this. If the gods were going to curse him with nightmares, the least they could do was show him something useful. He watched and participated, helpless to stop the memory from playing out in his dreams, when something odd happened. Before the arai even attacked, the dream shimmered and then changed. He felt his anger dissipate some as it was replaced with confusion. Had the gods actually answered him? Because if they had, he actually would have preferred no dreams, 'kay, thanks... But maybe that was asking too much, because Percy was still in Tartarus, but this time, he was falling. The twelve minute (had it only been twelve minutes? It had felt like forever) fall as he and Annabeth fell from Arachne's chambers into the pit of the world beneath the Underworld. Something wasn't right, though. He could see Annabeth, and she was falling, falling alone, and he was watching her, but he wasn't with her. He reached out for her, hoping to offer her some comfort, but he didn't even see his hand outstretch for her. It was like he was wearing Annabeth's invisibility cap on his head. Or maybe he didn't have arms. The fear of that idea leapt into his throat, and before he could sit on that idea, they hit the ground. Percy let out an, "Oof!" as he sprawled across the ground. He had been so caught up in wondering where he was in this dream, where his arms were, that he had completely forgotten to get ready to cushion their fall with the river. But as it was, he was fine. He felt fine. He looked up to check on Annabeth to find her gone. He was alone. He sat up and stared down at himself, both glad and maybe a little worried to see that he had his arms back. That was nice, but this dream had suddenly turned into something else. The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end, and Percy glanced around his surroundings with growing trepidation. A forest. Not the black forest, and not the forest from Camp Half-Blood, but a forest. And a forest that already felt too real to be a dream too. He climbed to his feet and paused halfway up as he noticed the box. His eyes narrowed suspiciously, and he felt some of that residual anger return as he snatched it up and went through the items in the box. "Crap, crap, crap..." he muttered as he threw out each useless item onto the ground. He was just giving a small book a squinting stare - oh gods, who decided to give him a book that was handwritten!? - when he heard a sound. The box and its contents hit the ground as he reached into his pocket and pulled out Riptide, immediately popping off the cap on the pen. The pen cap hit the forest floor, and the pen... remained a pen. Percy gave his supposed-to-be-but-not-quite-a-sword a horrified look. "Oh, Poseidon, that is so not a good start to my day..."
