Describe the character's history & personality:

Personality

Nathan Drake is a thrill seeker. A treasure hunter. A lover of mysteries and history. He's quick witted, and just as quick to speak his mind. He has a vast knowledge of the world, ranging from the mundane to the downright obscure, thanks to his many travels and endless research. He's fearless, or gives a good impression of it, almost to the point of stupidity. He makes quick decisions, doesn't always plan things as well as he should, but always has his eye on the prize. He's loyal to his friends, and has more concern for their well being than his own.

He's cocky in the face of his enemies, and as one of them points out, it isn't pain or death that he's afraid of. In fact, cheating death is a thrill for him.

He often infuriates his friends when he neglects to explain what it is he's doing, telling them instead to 'wait here', or only giving half an explanation to a clue he's just uncovered before heading off on his own to deal with it. His passion for solving the unsolvable, and the answers to the questions surrounding Francis Drake's secret mission for the queen, are what drive him.

Despite his recklessness, he's become an expert at getting out of the stupid, and dangerous situations he so often gets himself in to.

History

Nathan's childhood is a bit of a mystery, mostly because he keeps it that way. His mother took her own life and at the age of five his father gave him up to the state, where he spent a period of time at the Saint Francis' boys home, which was run by nuns. The second he could get out of that orphanage, he did. His older brother Sam had wanted him to stay, wanted a better life for him. But Nate didn't care about any of that. And though they spent more time in prisons than out of them, he was where he wanted to be. With family.

Since they were children, Nate and Sam had become obsessed with the hunt for Avery's treasure. It was during a search in a Panamanian jail for an idol which held a key to their search that Sam was killed. Nate never forgave himself, and has rarely spoken of his brother since.

Nate met Sully when he was 15, on the streets of Cartagena, Colombia. The home of a Francis Drake museum. At this stage of his life, Nate was doing what he could to get by during those rare times Sam was in prison without him. It wasn't by coincidence that it was Sully he chose to pick pocket. He knew that Sully was after the same thing Nate was, an astrolabe and ring once belonging to Francis Drake. By the end of that particular saga, it was Nate who came out the other side with the ring, which he now wears on a leather cord around his neck. He's never seen without it. The ring contains Francis Drake's motto - "Sic Parvis Magna", or "Greatness from Small Beginnings".

Sully took Nate under his wing and treated him like his own son. And though they got in to plenty of sticky situations over the years, they've always looked out for each other. In the absence of his brother, Sully became family.

It was on one particular adventure that Nate met Elena Fisher, a woman who would come in and out of his life time and again. They were married at one point, but things went sour, and it's been a while since he's last seen her.

His most recent quest is a search for the truth of what Francis Drake was really searching for on a mission for the Queen. With the astrolabe and his ring, Nate and Sully were following a centuries old trail to a lost city, and the treasure that lies beneath the water. But when Sully was captured by their enemies, Nate took it upon himself to get his friend back.

Unfortunately, after being nearly choked to death, drugged, shot at, then caught in the ocean on a sinking ship, the last thing he expected was the plane he hitched a ride on to make a crash landing before they'd reached their destination.

Character's canon point of regret: Part way through Uncharted 3, Drake's Deception. Now that he's stuck in the middle of the desert, and Sully is dead for all he knows, Drake regrets not listening to Elena. It was his stupid obsession and pride which had gotten them here after all.

Why you write this character:

Nate is just so much fun. He's irreverent, funny, but so clever. He also has an incredibly complex backstory which he is quite reserved about, which adds another layer of interest to his character.

What you want this character to do in game:

I'd like him to find some normalcy, probably. Which will be hard for him. He's never really had a 'normal' anything. Job, life... so having him work towards that will be interesting.
