PERSONALITY: Growing up, Jake was constantly compared to his older twin, Tommy. So much so that while Jake is fairly intelligent, quick to learn and extremely resourceful in his own right, he still believes that he's nothing more than a dumb grunt compared to his brother. Even though he does it to himself all the time, it hurts when people dismiss him as "Not Tommy", although he hides it as best he can. In his mind, he is nowhere near being Officer Material, although he has no problem with taking charge if needs be. He listens well, knows how to delegate, takes on board the opinions and advice of others and is ready and willing to share what he learns with those who he feels should know.

Jake is much more than his wheelchair, despite the fact that it seems to be what most people focus on when they talk to him. He's a former marine, and he was a damn good one, too, before he got shot, and the bullet tore through his spine and left him a paraplegic. He signed up because it was hard - he can pass any test a man can pass, and he still believes it. He is more than willing to be the guy who stands up for the things he believes in - prior to shipping out to Pandora, he picked a fight with a guy in a bar for beating on his girlfriend when everyone else in the place just looked the other way - and he sure as hell doesn't want or expect anyone's pity.

He has a strong heart. No fear, according to Neytiri. He cannot leave something unfinished, no matter what the possible outcomes are; he completed the Dream Hunt to become a member of the Omaticaya despite being in the Avatar and fully expecting to die in the process, even after Quaritch had told him he could go back to Earth and get his legs back. Once he aligns himself with a cause, he commits to it, 100%; he is Eywa's chosen warrior, Toruk Makto, and mated to her next Tsahik of the Omaticaya. He no longer considers himself human, he is Na'vi in the wrong body. This makes him a race traitor, but he doesn't care.
