Thursday: July/3/08 - Phone call: Starbuck/Kim
Kim: *calls Starbuck's phone*
Starbuck: *answers after a few rings* Hey.. sorry.. Kamea hid my phone again.
Kim: *laughs a little* That's ok. You at home then?
Starbuck: Yeah, just got here a few minutes ago. *concerned* You okay?
Kim: Yeah, I'm fine. Just sitting at work. Waiting for one of the football players to get here for his tutoring session. The guy's always late.
Starbuck: *shuffling noises* Football player, eh? Should I be worried about you swooning?
Kim: Well, he does play tight end.. pretty tall and fast on his feet. *laughs*
Starbuck: *chuckles* I'm doomed.
Kim: Nah, you're safe. I like my men a bit on the clumsy side.
Starbuck: Win!
Kim: *chuckles a little* There's something I need to talk to you about though. Nothing bad, I promise.
Starbuck: Oh yeah?
Kim: Remember that surfing scout that came up to us in Australia? He emailed me.
Starbuck: *silent for a second* He what?
Kim: Trust me, I was just as surprised as you are. He said it took a lot of digging around to find info on you, but he couldn't so he found me instead.
Starbuck: What a piece of shit!
Kim: I know. I really don't appreciate what he did. *pauses for a second* But he also said that he showed video of you surfing to his bosses and they really wanna see you ride.
Starbuck: *irritated* Good for them.
Kim: *hesitantly* And they wanna offer you a trip to South Africa to some competition Billabong is holding later this month.
Starbuck: Jeffreys Bay?
Kim: Um.. *sound of a keyboard clicking* Yeah..
Starbuck: *quiet for a moment* I'd love to surf there, but I'm not surfing for some fucking corporation.
Kim: Well, he said it'd be no strings attached. You don't have to sign anything and can just ride if you want to.
Starbuck: I'd still be there because of them.
Kim: That's true.. *pauses* I just thought I'd mention it anyway.
Starbuck: *hesitates* Do you want me to do it?
Kim: Not if you don't want to do it. And honestly, I don't blame you if you don't. Besides, I told the guy not to hold his breath waiting for a response so.. yeah..
Starbuck: Oh, I'm gonna call the fucker. He needs to know it's not cool to stalk you.
Kim: You're gonna call him at some international phone number just to tell him not to stalk me? I already told him off for emailing me in the first place.
Starbuck: Seems like I didn't make myself clear the first time, so I'm going to make sure he knows I'm not interested and to leave us the fuck alone.
Kim: Babe.. *sighs* Maybe you should just leave it alone. If you call him, he's just gonna try and bait you in some more. He'll probably just stop after not hearing from us anyway.
Starbuck: How the hell did he find your email address?
Kim: No idea. He just said he did a lot of digging. Probably got info at our hotel or something.
Starbuck: Asshole.
Kim: Just forget about it, ok? We're done with him.
Starbuck: Scouts did this shit to dad. They were always trying to get him to sign, and that was before we had money.
Kim: *quietly after a moment* If I had known you were going to get this upset about it, I wouldn't have said anything.
Starbuck: *sigh* I'm sorry.
Kim: There's no reason for you to apologize. I just don't want you getting upset over something like the stupid scout.
Starbuck: It's not just about that.. all dad's friends thought he was insane for never going pro.
Kim: You're not insane for not wanting to go pro and neither was your dad. It's understandable. Or at least, I think it is.
Starbuck: You sure? I mean... I'd understand if you wanted me to do it. I'm sure the money is awesome, and the travel and all the great waves.
Kim: The only thing I want is for you to be happy. If you'd be happy doing it, I'd be all for it, but you obviously wouldn't be and I don't want that.
Starbuck: Okay.
Kim: Are you gonna stop worrying about it now?
Starbuck: *sigh* Yeah.
Kim: No, you're not. I know you too well.
Starbuck: I'm annoyed, but I'll get over it.
Kim: I'm sorry. I didn't mean for that to happen. *pauses* Kyle just walked in so I gotta go. Come pick me up in about an hour?
Starbuck: Yeah, absolutely. I'll meet you outside the library.
Kim: Alright. Love you.
Starbuck: I love you too. See you soon.
