Howard Stark, a brief history:
Howard Ronald Stark Jr. hit adulthood just after the stock market crashed, so instead of going to college as he planned, he stuck around and helped his dad at the family garage. The Starks were hardworking, blue-collar people, but, despite being the eldest, he'd always been something of a black sheep. He dreamed big and he took risks. Oh, and he worked his ass off. A natural mechanic, Howard quickly got bored of cars and took to building things with the leftover junk lying around in the garage. And some of those things worked.
It was only a matter of time before Howard blew something up, and when he did, his father summarily fired him and kicked him out of the house. Undeterred, he took his best clothes, walked into the local bank, and charmed his way into a modest loan, which he used as startup money to found Stark Industries. Things were rough for the first year -- he lived on almost nothing and slept in the cheap workspace he'd rented -- but after a couple of lucky breaks, some of his inventions caught the attention of some government officials, and eventually earned him a recruitment into the Strategic Scientific Reserve. By the age of 24, he had a staff in the hundreds, several government contracts, and a company well on its way to being one of the foremost weapons developers in the world.
Of course, Howard never really learned how to stop working. Although he is a phenomenal actor and an excellent cold-reader, he is always painfully aware of his roots. Although he does his best to blend in with the officials around him, his insecurity often leads him to push people away, and his workaholism keeps him from making too many meaningful connections.
Random Facts (updated whenever I feel like it)
Favorite sport is baseball (go Dodgers!)
Scuffs his shoes all the time, so he has them shined regularly
Hates neckties
Has slight hearing loss in his right ear, because explosions
Carries a notebook and a pencil on him at all times
Keeps a dream journal
Doesn't read for pleasure too much, but if he does it's probably an Ellery Queen mystery (although once James Bond is a thing he's going to be all over that).
Do not ever call him "Junior" or Shit Will Get Real
