Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
To the families of the innocent victims of the tragic events yesterday, please accept my deepest and most heartfelt condolences. Please be assured that the Ministry is exhausting all efforts in identifying and punishing the monsters who did this to your beloved family members. My thoughts, and indeed the Minister’s, are with you and your family at this challenging time.

We also lost a most valuable member of our society in Mr Ollivander, the notable wand-maker. To say this is tragic would be a vast understatement. He can never be replaced.

I want to remind all those that are unfortunate enough to be labelled 'Family of a Suspected Terrorist': joining the Magical Army of Britain will remove this status. Despite the pandemonium yesterday, the MAB proved that it is a formiddable force capable of protecting the citizens of this country from violent rebels, and its members should be proud to wear the uniform.

[Private to Zacharias]
Lads, we need to get to a pub. Yesterday was ridiculous. Neither of you were there, were you?

Also, what do either of you know about Padma Patil?

Are Suspected Terrorists included in your sympathies, Mr. Stebbins?

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be unkind or doubt your sincerity. You see, I thought I had gained back some reassurance in our government on Friday because I had lunch with a very kind member of the Ministry. But after watching a member of the MAB hex my innocent, unarmed father yesterday while he was fleeing for his life, and subsequently being turned away from medical help at St. Mungo's, I can't help but feel even more helpless and unsure than ever.

I apologise on behalf of the Ministry for the error made by that MAB member. I can only assume that in the chaos your father was mistaken for one of the rebels, or the soldier was not able to aim correctly in the midst of the fight. I was there myself, and I remember it being difficult to discern who were simply passers-by and who were the purist rebels. St Mungos was similarly hectic.

This government only wants the best for its citizens. However, Suspected Terrorists have been labelled so because they have been found guilty of traitorous actions against this government, and it is hard to find sympathy for such individuals. Significant efforts are required to remove this status.

It's hard to find sympathy...? I see.

I thought for a moment that you meant it when you said you'd try to help on Friday. Thank you for clarifying. I'm a Suspected Terrorist in your eyes, and I deserved to have my birthday and initials seared into my skin, and to be badly burned by a stray hex and denied subsequent medical attention yesterday.

No need to look into my case, Mr. Stebbins. I see people such as my father and myself have already been condemned in your eyes.

Miss Padma, I'm not [...] I'm sorry. That's not what I meant. There are some people that have been wrongly mistakenly labelled Suspected Terrorists, and it is unfair for you to suffer the same indignities. I would like to work to change this, and with my promotion, I am in a better position to do so, but you can understand that it would be very difficult. I don't want to start dangerous precedents I believe there may be a way of rescinding upgrading statuses, but it will take time.

I want to help, I was not lying when I said that on Friday.

Forgive me if the pain of my burns injuries, and the sorrow for seeing my father so badly hurt, makes me less than receptive to your sympathies at this very moment.

Upgrading statuses? I've done nothing wrong, nor has my father! Why should I be condemned for the actions of my uncle? I've never even met him! But because of him, I was dragged back to Britain and branded a traitor because of a... a mistake?

I—

History has dictated the way in which the Ministry has gone about this. It is a known fact that purism and subversion against this government has spread through families, and while you haven't met your uncle, the Ministry cannot trust this on face value. It would be more of a mistake to be too lenient.

Padma, you've suffered, but isn't it better to know that we're being too harsh rather than letting Death Eaters and terrorists fall through the cracks, to eventually rise up and destroy the country yet again?

Don't speak to me of history. I studied magical history and know exactly what history dictates.

Fact? Here is a fact, Robert Stebbins. I spent a third of my life in India, and blood purity and family is a clearly a completely different concept for Hindus. My family was ashamed of my uncle's actions. They disowned him and everything he stood for. They raised us to believe in honor, and to respect our government for the freedom is provided us.

My family has never been subversive I would also consider our actions in the past more than enough proof that. I fought against the Death Eaters in the last war, and still, when the DMLE showed up in New Delhi last month and forced me home, I didn't fight them. I was sure that my loyalty to both my countries would see me through. Yet, since that day, I've been branded, roughed up, broken, bruised and burnt.

[There are several smears throughout the text where Padma dripped water on the paper to look like tears.]

So, no, your words aren't helping, and no, it isn't better to know. My father could have died in the waiting room yesterday, and my government would have stood back and watched.

This country has suffered before from a corrupt government that has sat by while suspected Death Eaters were allowed to go free, suspected Death Eaters that became actual Death Eaters and helped raise a Dark Lord to power that devastated this country - twice. With this knowledge, how can the government allow this to happen again?

You are a victim of the system, as is your father, and that is a tragedy. My words won't help because there aren't any appropriate enough. I can only implore you to look past these events and see the peaceful future we are constructing.

I have a hard time seeing anything right now, Mr. Robert. I see more victims than just myself.

I feel like I'm drowning in a sea of violence and hurt.

My sister was wounded yesterday. She is pregnant and yet she was denied care. She could have lost the baby because they refused to help her. Will something be done about this?

For a Ministry as interested in promoting healthy families as yours is I cannot understand how this type of thing could happen.

I'm sorry that your sister was injured. St Mungos was overwhelmed with casualties yesterday and many people had to wait longer than usual to be treated. We are looking into better response times within the hospital, yes.

I was there, sir. Healers were standing around. My sister was turned down because of a mark on her arm. I assure you her baby has no such mark but was equally turned away.

The Ministry cannot control the reactions of citizens to brands indicating Suspected Terrorists. But an enquiry will be made into this matter.

These are not citizens acting independently, this was a corporate wide decision by the very place people turn to for help. The very place that is put in charge helping people. All people.

I look forward to reading the report on the findings.

You're talking about pain and loss then reminding people related to STs to join the army. It sounds like a warning to join up or join those who are hurt. Are you a member of this wonderful army?

I'm not family of ST, I am ST. I fought for this country and now I've become the bad guy. What's my choice?

It's not like that. Yes, there's a correlation, but it's not a warning. I would be a member if I wasn't doing more to help the cause in my job at the Ministry.

You're not [...] a proper ST. You said something you shouldn't have careless, and the Ministry has to take everything seriously otherwise we'll just have a repeat of the last war. I wish I could explain this better.

I'm going to try and get the Minister to agree to an option for STs to get the status removed somehow. [...] It's just going to take some time.

I am, Robbie. I'm branded, marked and hated. The full package. I meant what I said, I earned this brand.

I wish I could change things faster.
