“Saturday?” Scott looked at Stiles.”what are you all doing?”
“You’re coming too,” Stiles said. “Since it seems so difficult for you to believe Derek and I are mates-“
Erica looked at Scott with a scathing expression on her face. “Really? Really? It’s the most obvious thing on earth-“
“But it’s Derek-“ Scott insisted, as though that was a substantial argument.
“Someone’s jealous,” Erica teased, pinching Scott’s cheek. “Poor little Scott!”
“I just think it’s weird-“ Scott snapped. “How Stiles presented and oh, suddenly, Derek’s interested in him-“
Stiles’s face fell. “Because I’d be such a disappointing mate?” he queried. “Because I’m not good enough?”
“That’s not what I’m saying- it’s just weird that it’s suddenly-“
“You know we’ve been spending time together for months?” Stiles snapped. “You’ve been with Kira and Derek and I have been hanging out. Maybe if you weren’t so wrapped up in yourself you’d notice what was happening to people you claim to care about when it suits you.” Stiles snapped, hefting his bag onto his shoulder again and walking away.
John opened the door with an amused smile on his face. “Do you want me to get you a key?” he asked Derek, stepping back to let him in. “Thank you for coming back.”
He had a lot of questions, mostly about pack dynamics and where Stiles would fit in to that, how Derek would run his pack. And sure he could have done this with Stiles here, but his son always wanted to explain things to the nth degree, and John just couldn’t keep everything in line. Derek was a man of a lot less words, he’d make it a lot easier for John to understand.
“I understand that Stiles is your mate,” he started. Basics first. “And you have a pack. Obviously your children will be in your pack, too. But what is Stiles to the others? What’s his purpose aside from the pups, because we both know he’s more than that-“ John had absolute confidence that Derek wouldn’t treat Stiles as just an omega. He never needed to worry about that. He knew not all alphas were bad, but he wasn’t naive enough to not realise how fortunate it was that his outspoken, opinionated son had found his mate in Derek.
“What about Scott? I know Stiles isn’t- he’s not a wolf, so he’s in Scott’s pack out of choice, but you and Scott aren’t in the same pack- it’s not going to cause problems, is it?”
