"You know you don't need to impress me, right? But I definitely don't mind reaping the benefits," he was quick to say, gaze moving over his mate's form, lingering slightly on those tight jeans.
"It was absolutely selfish." And one day they would do the same, not because they wouldn't love their future children, but they loved each other too, and sometimes they were going to need to be alone. Especially through Stiles' heats, when Derek wouldn't be able to think beyond getting his hands on his mate.
His hand remained in Stiles from the car to inside the restaurant, past the knowing and speculative stares from older Alphas and omegas alike. Even a few betas. He caught the slight apprehension wafting off his mate and gave his hand a little squeeze.
"The owner, Armand, remembered my parents," he said quietly. When he had called for reservations the older man had exclaimed happily, especially once Derek mentioned his mate. A few twinkling candles sat on their table and Derek took the seat to his left, instead of across. He wanted to be close to Stiles and leaned in, only to have the plug jostle slightly in him and leave him biting back a hiss as he leaned back slowly.
He was going to be crazy by the end of this. Yet, at the end there was Stiles, and he couldn't deny that he loved knowing that. "You look great." They were the youngest couple in here by a few years, and a few knowing smirks on the lips of knowing Alphas. "You're welcome. I wanted this to be special for you. So, enjoy it," he said quietly, hand slipping under the table to squeeze his knee. "And stop worrying. You're doing fine. You look great. And I love you."
His own menu sat by his elbow, ignored. Partially because he knew what he wanted, but mostly because he didn't move his gaze from his mate.
