[Quadraginta sex]

He's been busy, even though the radio silence is normal. They asked him to make his own range of perfumes, but he politely, graciously declined.

'At least think about it?'

Photos and promotional campaigns for someone else's nice-smelling bottle of shit, however, he didn't mind. In fact he was more than happy to forward the two samples they gave him to Lucifer and Satan, with a small card attached to the rim of the perfume bottle saying 'You need it more than I'.


My own range of perfumes. That might have been a big hit when I had all of Heaven at my disposal.

[Quadraginta quinque]

No greetings, no formalities, no 'hello again, how are you, when will we next be going at each others' throats again?' No. Just a simple acknowledgement over an abstract communication network - one that says 'I know you are here' with a coy smile and a nod that almost goes by unnoticed.

After all, double-edged swords did not tend to talk much. And when he did decide to say something, it was only fair that he communicate in a language they could both understand.


Can you compose an ode to solitude, if it is meant to be heard by someone else?

[Quadraginta tres]

Pride has been quiet because Pride has been working. Levi's knows you'd like to buy a shirtless Dante Solomon for $99 but the jeans hanging off his waist will have to do, and you know that perfume/cologne would make a great Christmas present.

It was Envy last month. This month... this month belongs to Greed and Gluttony.

But, speaking of Envy. He had to wonder, with the extended silence, if he had gone a little too far. Surely not. After all, weren't they going to get married? Nothing wrong with showing the prospective spouse a bit of flesh.

Unfortunately, there was hardly any time to contemplate such trivialities. Less than a week until Christmas and Gluttony might be difficult to please, but satisfying Greed was another matter entirely.

If he has any of his own wants to cater to, he wants to see her. But...


Awfully quiet this year, aren't we? I suppose it does get a little repetitive, celebrating a dead man's birthday every year with saturated fat and large-scale deforestation.

[Quadraginta duo]

After spending a good three hours at the Body Shop - granted, for about two hours of the three he was taking photos with enamoured women or signing something for them - but when he was finally done, he made deliveries to each of the other Sins at their usual residences, and Infidelity in NYC. They each received a hamper of shower gels, shampoos/conditioners, body lotions for the women and aftershave for the men, and various other bits and pieces.

In addition, he has penned a small instruction booklet for Wrath titled 'How to Shower'.

Envy gets a handwritten note as well. It's the first line of O Sole Mio; 'Che bella cosa e' na jurnata 'e sole.'


Hellhounds leave more than a bitter taste in the mouth.

Gluttony is binging, Sloth is stirring, Wrath is smiling, Envy is pretending - everything is almost as it should be, save for Lust's silence and Greed's absence. He reads, he listens, he follows, he acknowledges - stopping short of entering the fray; but he is the only one truly above it all. The dog lays low, quiet, warming the carpet while Pride slides the crimson velvet off fifty-two ivory slabs and thirty-six onyx, revealing eighty-eight aged, quiescent bars.

Slender fingers and the occasional pedal make meaningless music out of the piano, putting the dog to sleep, filling the empty house with wordless song.

It is a horrible habit. For there was little worse than a millennia-old solitary existence, yet he indulged the loneliness with noise.

[Infidelity]
I feel I should apologise for this despite the fact that you have a horrible impulsive streak that strikingly resembles your mother's and tried to kill me with what looked suspiciously like a stolen vehicle.

Here is my driver's number. I only engage his services four or five times a year, so call him when it suits your schedule. Spend a day or three in town and pick up what you like - he'll take care of the bills.

Regardless, it was nice to have seen and spoken with you in the flesh, as it were. Take care, and do try and stay out of trouble.
