abilities.
Powers/Abilities:
Make You Sway || Jo shares, primarily, in her father's ability for hypnotic suggestion - to the point where, if she feels so inclined, her suggestions can change people's perceptions of events and she can make herself seem to disappear from people's awareness. (There's totally a Jedi Mind-Trick joke in there somewhere.) When her abilities are activated, she's something of a walking subliminal message. People feel very compelled not only to listen to what she has to say, but to believe whatever it is she's saying. And it's easy listening, really. She has one helluva set of pipes.

See No, Hear No, Speak No Evil || This ability remains secondary due to it's reliance on skin-to-skin contact and also to the intense drain that it causes on her system. Instead of the characteristic power-removal that her mother and brother shared, her ability causes non-permanent sensory deprivation in the intended victim - primarily the loss of sight, hearing, or speech. Removal of all three senses at once is possible, but it tends to be a more difficult task and much more of a energy-sucker for her.

Level of Control: Jolene has very good control over both of her abilities. Due, in part, to being home for the longest and having her father kicking her ass about it. (The ability to get away with pretty much anything would be a lot more fun if it worked on her dad.) Though it's pretty rare, there are occasions where a particular suggestion will slip through without her intending for it to do so.
Skills/Talents: Fluent in both English and French; passable Tarot knowledge; skilled at card tricks/games, darts, and pool (basically anything you can sharp money off of people with in a bar-type setting); a whole slew of thievery skills (lock-picking, pickpocketing, etc.); can fend for herself in the kitchen; and she's well-trained in gymnastics and the fine art of beating people up.

the personality.
Generally speaking, Jolene is a well-rounded and pleasant teenager. Out of the lot of her siblings, she has the least problems with flares of temper - she's more likely just to sulk briefly and she's terrible at holding grudges. (And she hates when people are unhappy with her. Especially when the word 'disappointed' is thrown around. It makes her feel squirmy and guilty.) She tends to be at her best when she's performing, irregardless of the figurative stage, just as adept at gaining attention as she is at disappearing from it altogether. She's most comfortable with putting on a show, only on uncertain footing when she's supposed to be plainly herself around people she doesn't know. Strip away the lazy drawl and the charming grin and she's just about as coltish and awkward as any other teenage girl still making the effort to properly settle into themselves.

She's relatively studious - perhaps not the best student, but eager to learn when she's feeling particularly determined or when it's something that interests her - and she genuinely attempts to plan things out to the best of her ability (and attention span). She has a quick wit and something of a wicked sense of humor. (Which, coupled with her primary ability, provides her with hours of harmless entertainment at the expense of unknowing strangers.) Cheerfully sarcastic and more than willing to laugh at herself, she's even-tempered and only really verges on snippy when teased about her abandonment issues.

Her father trained the responsible use of her powers into her at a very early age, and so she will very very rarely use them on people that she knows. And, even then, never seriously. (Making her brother think that his eyebrows are missing for a couple of hours doesn't count as serious.) But even a great deal of fatherly butt-kicking isn't quite enough to entirely rid her of the niggling sense of worry that her influence over other people allows her. She occasionally fears that people only like her because they feel compelled to do so, and not because they actually do. So when it's a joke, she's as big of an outgoing flirt as anyone else in her family, but if she's genuine about it she becomes rather spectacularly awkward and shy.

Strengths: sense of humor, quick wit, generally even-tempered
Weaknesses: inferiority complex, abandonment complex, slight social anxieties
history.
Growing up, the baby of the LeBeau clan was both coddled and exposed to the family business in turn. While their home life was never precisely (or even remotely) calm, they had themselves somewhat figured out by the time Jolene came around. With their father settling into his position as the head of the New Orleans Thieves Guild, Jo was more than happy to follow in his (and her siblings') footsteps. She was a tiny little tomboy with quick hands, a sweet voice, and a very convincing innocent-face - and, really, there wasn't really much left that she could possibly do to shock anyone after they'd already put up with the rest of her siblings marking their territory.

Jolene was nine when her mother died and the strange stability of their (already decidedly unstable) lives shattered. Their father fell apart, Olivier left, Isabelle grew up, Mason rebelled, and Jolene did her best to not get in anyone's way. Olivier came back, of course, but things never quite returned to their brand of normal and when everyone had left yet again (in slightly different capacities than the last time), Jolene stayed behind. Her father needed someone to come home to, after all. And as much as she was accustomed to trailing along after her siblings and clutching to the hems of their shirts, they deserved the opportunity to start somewhere new without worrying about her all the time.

Despite the fact that she was the one to stay home, she wasn't terribly sheltered - her father was away often enough, which left Jolene to fend for herself. The intervening years between the death of her mother and leaving for school were spent sharping people in various locations along the strip and, occasionally, serving tables or singing a song or two for Jacques, one of the old bar owners with a soft-spot for the weird little Lebeau kids. (And it was hard not to take pity on the despondent little thing Jolene had been in her preteens.) She had always been partial to old-style jazz and blues and with some generous use of her ability, people buy more drinks - and the tips tend to be bigger. So it's not a bad deal for either of them.

While she had been to the Institute often over the course of her siblings' tenure there, she only enrolled in an official capacity when she was turning sixteen, after (somewhat impatiently) finishing high school a year early. Playing with the Guild whenever she was allowed was all well and good, but she was treated more like her father would off anyone who let her get damaged and less like she was capable of taking care of herself. And it stood to reason that if she was technically old enough for college, then she was probably about time for her Dad to take care of himself - at least for a little while.

Hey there! My name is Diana and I was thinking about picking up the elder LeBeau sister. I was told she wasn't too active in the game so there isn't a lot I would have to worry about as far as catching up goes, but before I started on an application or anything, I was wondering if there was anything I should be aware of, be it something that happened in game, the status of the relationship between the sisters, anything at all.

Feel free to email me or look for me on AIM under phasingirl. Email is also phasingirl@gmail. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
