.Character Details. Personality:Ted is stubborn and hard-working. He’s also quite set in his ways, loyal to the core, and a bit old-fashioned. When he makes a mistake, he admits it even if it hurts his pride. For this reason, he doesn't like making mistakes. He tends to over-think and over-analyze decisions, often second-guessing himself. He doubts himself sometimes but has faith that what he’s doing will come out right in the end. He can be loud and enjoys a good laugh and carrying on, and sometimes he doesn’t stop soon enough when it’s time to be serious.
One thing about Ted is that he is nothing if not persistent. He does not give up on anything he wants. Some might even say his ambition is of a very Slytherin nature. Perhaps that is why he was drawn so easily and so quickly to Andromeda Tonks. He also has a tendency to speak before thinking, a trait that sometimes gets him into tight and sticky situations.
Ted was always good at everything he did (with the exception of transfiguration) but never great. He enjoyed his Defense Against the Dark Arts classes most and put the most effort into those. His greatest ability is probably his charisma and way with words. He’s a natural-born leader for that reason, and not necessarily for any exceptional wand or magic skills. This hard work and charisma paid off when he was named Hufflepuff prefect during his school years.
Likes/Dislikes: [likes] dogs, wintertime, Muggle football, holiday at the shore, Christmas cookies, his daughter, laughter, dirty jokes; [dislikes] prejudice, disloyalty, bullies, seafood.
Personal History: Ted was born the only son and oldest child to a Muggle barrister and his wife. He grew up as any Muggle child, attending primary school and enjoying his friends and adventures in their Devonshire neighborhood. On his eleventh birthday he received a shock -- an owl was waiting to deliver a letter claiming that he, Ted, was a wizard. Shortly after the letter arrived, so did a tall, thin man with an auburn beard who introduced himself as Albus Dumbledore who came by to answer any questions the Tonks family had. Ted, who didn’t think he’d ever displayed any magical abilities whatsoever, was shocked. Still, he attended Hogwarts the following fall, where he was sorted into Hufflepuff. He quickly became well-liked and popular.
It was during Ted's 6th year that he first noticed Slytherin Andromeda Tonks, a 4th year with a stubborn streak. She looked like her older sister, a Slytherin whom, quite frankly, terrified Ted, so he steered clear. But Andromeda was different. Maybe not outwardly, maybe not in public, but Ted could feel it. So he started pressing her to go out with him. Just one date, he asked. Just give me a chance, he said. She wanted nothing to do with him, but he pushed and pushed and pushed and soon they were spending time together. Oh, they weren't dating -- far from it, especially given that she was dating proper Slytherin purebloods and Ted was Muggleborn -- but they were talking. She seemed to let her guard down when they were alone, and he began to tell her all sorts of things about Muggles and the world outside of the wizarding one.
Ted was actually sad to leave Hogwarts because it meant he had to leave Andromeda. But he consistently wrote her. Even when he didn't get replies, he wrote her. He took a job with a Muggle television station near his family in Devonshire instead of a job in the wizarding world. For all his years at Hogwarts, he still sometimes felt out of place, and trying to court Andromeda only made it worse. He was forever being reminded by how far apart their lives really were. Yet Ted, not only persistent but also optimistic, even went so far as visiting during Hogsmeade weekends.
Soon, Ted and Andromeda were dating in secret. Perhaps it was Ted's naivety, but he had a hard time wrapping his head around the why. Why did it have to be secret? Why did she treat him like dirt when other people were around? As he was not a pureblood, Andromeda always said, he just didn't understand. By the time Andromeda was out of school and into the Healer-in-training program, Ted was getting a promotion at the station and getting impatient. Their relationship grew as well, though it was still secret.
It all came to a head when Andromeda got engaged to Matthew Yaxley. Ted didn't want to lose her, but there was nothing he could do. When she came to him and told him she was pregnant, his emotions moved quickly from joy to despair. He'd held her take care of it, he said. Her family came first, he had come to realize. He didn't want her to get into trouble. All Ted wanted was for Andromeda to be happy. He would give anything to see her happy. But to his surprise, that's not what Andromeda wanted. Ted and Andromeda eloped, she was disowned by her family, and together they had a daughter, whom they named Nymphadora.
Though Ted works in the Muggle world, he keeps an ear and an eye on the wizarding one. He supports the light side, has heard some murmurings of a Dark Lord resistance group called the Order and the Phoenix, and Ted is interested. His family comes first, and he will do whatever it takes to ensure that Andromeda and Nymphadora are safe.
Physical: Ted stands just under 6’ tall and has brown hair that he keeps trimmed neatly but not too short. He has dark eyes and broad shoulders. He also has a bright, clean, white smile. Some people would say he has a baby face, looking quite younger than he is. He wears tailored business suits at work and usually jeans and t-shirts around the house, useful for whenever his 3-year-old daughter spilled her juice while bouncing on him. .Examples. Third Person Example: Ted was a horrible cook. He burned water when he tried to boil it. When he made rice, it got all mushy. He either undercooked or overcooked eggs. So, one might ask, why exactly was Ted in the kitchen cooking on Sunday morning? Because it was Dora's birthday and Dora loved scrambled eggs and bacon. Andromeda had worked late the night before, so it wasn't fair at all to ask her to make breakfast. Ted would be damned if his daughter didn't get what she wanted on her birthday. Well, besides the pony. They just didn't have the room in the garden for a pony.
But Ted got something just as good as a pony. At least, that's what he thought. He got Dora a dog. He hadn't even told Andromeda yet. A mate from work was watching the dog, a Labrador pup, until Ted could pop by and pick it up. He couldn't wait to see the look on his little girl's face when he brought home the dog.
He was so busy thinking about what was going to happen that he completely forgot about the eggs in the frying pan on the stove. A sick, burning smell filled the air and a puff of smoke leapt off the stove. "Oh bugger. Bugger bugger damn, shite," Ted swore, grabbing the pan and shoving it under the faucet.
He heard someone coming down the stairs and, frantically, he tried to clean up before his wife could see the mess he was making.
First Person Journal Entry: Clear skies are in the reports for the next three days over Devonshire, but I think it's going to rain in London. I'm glad for living out in the country for once, even if Andromeda always needs to take some extra time to commute to St. Mungo's every day. It's worth it.
I took Dora to the park yesterday. She wanted to feed the ducks. I had to make up some story about her getting into the food coloring when she turned her hair a bright pink right in front of a nice old Muggle couple having a picnic. It would have worked if Dora hadn't changed it to blue a moment later.
I really hope this is something she learns to control better. I don't know how much I can take. I wasn't raised on this sort of thing, you know.
