HISTORY
Eugene was born right in the middle of a war that changed the world, came screaming into this world in the back of a makeshift ambulance on the way to a field hospital already overflowing with casualties. He spent his first few years in a protected encampment, a part of New Jersey that had been barricaded and warded, witches that had taken the side of humans helping to protect this small community of people. He grew up around humans and supernatural 'defectors', giving him a bit of a warped sense as to how dangerous supernaturals were supposed to be since they'd always been his friends.

When the war ended and the dust settled, and various rehabilitation programs were brought in to try and rehouse displaced humans whose neighbourhoods had been destroyed, Eugene's parents were relocated to a community on Staten Island along with a number of other humans who had lost their homes due to the damage. Unfortunately, the corner shop that his parents had owned and run had been lost as well, and no one really cared that their financial struggles were due to the war; their entire savings were wrapped up in the building and shop and with it gone they had nothing as their insurance refused to pay out even a penny. Eugene's father therefore sold his family's debt to a vampire who paid it all off in exchange for his father's indentured servitude for an indeterminate amount of time.

Honestly, the rest of his life was pretty unremarkable. His father became somewhat of an errand-runner, his mother picking up several jobs to make ends meet. Eugene, too, as soon as he was old enough, started working here and there under the table to bring scraps more money into the house. They were certainly living below the poverty line but his parents loved him and he had an education--even if it was just his high school diploma--and friends to play with...life wasn't great but it certainly wasn't terrible.

When he was in his early twenties, his father got sick. Sick enough that he struggled to complete the tasks that the vampire he worked for set for him. Euan stepped up pretty quickly then, starting off just running errands and doing the things his father would have normally done but it was quickly evident that it was only a temporary solution: the vampire did not accept Euan as a substitute without actually having a contract in place.

Against the wishes of his parents, Euan offered himself officially in place of his father, taking on the indentured contract that his father had (and without realising that the vampire had upped the interest rate making it further unaffordable to pay off easily). A year after the 'purchase' was complete, Euan's contract was sold on to Black Velvet at a great profit to the original vampire, where he now works to pay off the outstanding, and seemingly never-ending debt. But at least he doesn't hate it, and they're really nice to him. So. It could be worse. Plus he gets to work elsewhere in between his donation days, meaning he has some of his own income as well (and if he's considering a change of career within the Second Circle that's nobody's business but his own).

THOUGHTS ON THE WAR?
Born in the middle of it, Euan doesn't really know a world that was more 'equal'. He thinks he understands but he doesn't, and he doesn't really get why everyone looks at the time before the war with these sort of rose-coloured classes (they lost, it's over, this is their new reality get over it), besides mourning those that they lost, of course, 'cause that does suck.

OPINION ON SUPERNATURAL (IF HUMAN)
Euan is fascinated with the supernatural and though he knows--logically--he should be absolutely terrified of them he absolutely isn't. He has all the self-preservation skills of an amoeba. He thinks that things could be better for everyone if they'd let him donate more than three times a week at Black Velvet...
