FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Likely, Sirius comes across as arrogant and full of himself. He also comes across as lazy and flippant. However, he has an easy smile, enjoys a flirt, and if a person isn't a Slytherin, a Black, or a purist, he's going to do everything he can to charm them.
OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Sirius Black is a loose cannon. Catch him in a good mood and you’ll never want to leave his side. Catch him in a bad mood, and you won’t be able to get away fast enough. It’s as though Sirius has inside him the potential to be either a hero or a villain. Honestly, he’d rather be a hero, so that’s what he’s aiming for. He takes his friendships very seriously, as though they were family relationships, since he does not accept his own blood relations. He'd die for his friends in an instant.
Much of Sirius is cliché Gryffindor: brash, bold, chivalrous, brave, flamboyant, passionate, loyal, rebellious, cocky, idealistic, loud, obnoxious, better than you, easily excitable, easily bored, lazy, fiery, determined. He embodies both the good and the bad, the positive and the negative, of a lion. He likes to be the life of the party, no matter who he’s annoying. He likes to be the center of attention. He likes people to know who he is and what he’s about. His attitude toward life is to live one day at a time, as if he could die tomorrow, so who cares what happens today.
STRENGTHS
PASSIONATE
When Sirius likes something or believes in something, he does so with his entire being. He puts everything has has into it. It's fairly easy to judge whether Sirius is interested in something or not; just look at how invested he is. If he comes across as indifferent, it's because he is. It isn't an act. Otherwise, he's incapable of hiding his passion.
CHARMING
Sirius is very good at getting what he wants and at getting the reactions he wants. He's flirtatious and good-looking and smart. He (usually) knows what to say and how to say it. If you asked him, he'd say that everyone who's supposed to adore him does adore him and everyone else can just go away.
OUTSPOKEN
As it is with Sirius's passion, he is also very vocal about a lot of things, some of which he considers himself an expert on and some of which he just feels the need to be outspoken about. Importantly, Sirius is outspoken about his opinions regarding blood purity (worthless), Muggles (love them), Muggleborns (brilliant), and injustices against minorities (let's take a stand and do something).
WEAKNESSESARROGANT
Sirius knows that he's good looking and knows that he's smart and knows that he's better than a good number of other people (because of who he is, not his blood or his family or anything like that, just to be clear). So because of all that he knows, Sirius is more than a touch arrogant.
TEMPESTUOUS
It can't be said that Sirius doesn't have a temper, because he does. He can also be a grouch, and when he's a grouch, he's very difficult to be around. He can go from hot to cold in less than a minute. His moods shift as often as the wind blows. Basically, it's a good idea not to get on Sirius's bad side.
IMPULSIVE
The tendency to act first, barely think later isn't foreign to Sirius. He's made a habit out of it, both to positive and negative consequences. But it's not only his actions that are impulsive. He's also impulsive in what he says, known for his tendency to blurt out whatever's on his mind, whether he should or shouldn't. He likes to think he's just saying what everyone else is thinking most of the time.

HISTORY
• The Muggle: Sirius was six years old the first time he encountered a Muggle. He had snuck out of the house on what was a sunny, pleasant day in London. His goal was the park down the street from his home. He made it and spent 11 glorious minutes building sand buildings with a little boy he'd never met before. Those 11 minutes resulted in a week without pudding, a severe bout of physical punishment (to this day Sirius isn't certain what the exact hex was his mother used on him), and the beginning of what Sirius "fondly" refers to as anti-muggle filth boot camp.
• The Sorting: As a member of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, Sirius expected (as did everyone else in his family) to be sorted into Slytherin. So when Sirius, as the second student to be sorted his first year, sat down to be sorted, he expected it to be quick and painless. He was mistaken. While he wasn't a hat-stall, it wasn't an instantaneous decision either. Honestly, he probably could have asked to be in Slytherin, but with that rebellious streak just a glimmer in the back of his head, Sirius accepted the hat's decision and was sorted into Gryffindor. This marked the beginning of his transformation, the beginning of the end for him as a member of the Black family, and the beginning of his understanding of the wizarding world at large. None of that would have ever happened if he'd been sorted into Slytherin as expected.
• The Marauders: There are many ways that the Marauders directly impacted Sirius's life. For one, they accepted him at face value. For two, they inspired his creativity and innovation and talent. Three, they were the reasons he became an animagus, and Padfoot has become just as much a part of him as his own hands are. Four, they taught and influenced his acceptance of others, pulling him away from the ideals he was force fed as a child. Five, their relationships with one another, especially Sirius's with James, are thicker than blood and more important as well. And finally, without the rest of the Marauders, Sirius wonders who he'd be and what he'd do. He needs them in his life.
• The Shrieking Shack: Sirius isn't actually a malicious person. That is, when he set out to prank Snape and teach him a lesson, it never occurred to him that Snape could get seriously hurt or die. It was a laugh, really, and a way for that greasy haired, huge nosed git to get what was coming to him. An embarrassing scare, that's all. Snape was just the idiot what took the bait. Of course this is a defining moment, not because of the possible consequences to Snape, but because of the ones to Moony. That part hadn't really occurred to him either, and it changed Sirius's perspective and actually taught him that there's such a thing as taking something too far.
• The Leaving: The Christmas break after he turned 16, Sirius spent at 12 Grimmauld. It was the last time he set foot in the place. In fact, he didn't even last the entire break. It was the continued building pressure from his parents to turn back from the error of his ways and to purism. Lecture after lecture of blood and purism and right and wrong and Sirius exploded. He doesn't regret anything he said. He also doesn't see it as running away but instead as running towards. He believes in the decision he made. Sirius sees it as not just an act of defiance but also an act of growing up, maturity, and independence.
• Adulting: Having been disowned from his family, Sirius has it in his head that he's going to have to get a job and be an adult after finishing Hogwarts. However, then his great uncle Alphard died, leaving him - as they shared the whole thing of being blasted off the family tree with one another - a significant inheritance. Good thing, too, considering Sirius has no idea what direction his life might go in.Truly, if he could stay at Hogwarts forever, he absolutely would. Who wants to be an adult anyway when he can continue to disappoint his mother with every poor decision he can make from afar?
