Personality: Atreya has been called rude, brash, defensive, unladylike…. At times, she is all of the above, but mostly she is reserved. She holds herself to high standards of cleanliness and fitness. Wakes up early to train her mind and body for the day ahead and works through her sectors in diligently scheduled stints of time. She is logical, decisive, and can weigh options in her head for success in a matter of seconds.
On the other hand, she is fierce to protect and nearly impossible to calm down once she has sensed wrongdoing. Something deep insists that she protect those that are hurt or struggling and bears a profound hatred for those that take advantage of the lowly. Her fury is mighty- she will temper it up until the very last possible moment but woe betide anyone who pushes her one step too far.

Appearance: Artemis is a willowy and athletic 5’10”. A track runner and mountain climber in high school, she sees little use in makeup and owns only one kind of hair brush. Her thick, wavy hair is mostly left to its own devices and is often frizzy and windblown. He clothes are durable and simple. Cargo pants, t-shirts, and sports bras. She cares most about her socks. Keeping her feet healthy is a big concern when you spend much of your time trudging through streams and following animal tracks.

History
There are photos. Branching all the way back to birth. To Infancy…

… of a bright, fierce little girl with a spark of light in her eye. Dance pictures, in brilliantly jeweled Rajasthani dress. Track pictures in joggers with a long braid down her back. Flour and spice-covered kitchens with her mother’s hair in curls from hours over a steaming stove. Her father, working long hours, teaching hotheads the art of Pehlwani wrestling for half of what a Kung Fu instructor earned. In many pictures there were stray dogs or birds at her side. And in every photo, there was that bright spark in her eyes. The glow of some knowledge and confidence and enlightenment that cast friends and family into her shadow.

Atreya has kept these memories in albums on the bottom of her mother’s bookshelf since she 16. She was shot on a Thursday. The sun was high and she’d had her bright orange volunteer’s vest tied tightly over her t-shirt and cargo shorts. The Cactus wrens would be migrating north for their mating season any day now and the amount of debris in the Saguaro would be debilitating for their nesting process. He parents didn’t understand. They had their lives’ work. She had been trained in their lives her entire childhood. But this was hers. And she was proud to be there with the other volunteers. She’d wandered into the taller cacti. Here the short, stubby mesquites and long, dry grasses hid snakes, foxes, coyotes, owls… And that morning in particular, a poacher had been set to collect. Perhaps the grasses hid her vest. Perhaps it was the long pony tail at her back.

The gunshot was close and jarring and she woke up-

4 weeks, 3 days, 16 hours, and 27 minutes later.

She turned 17 while she lay in the ICU. And if it weren’t for the photographic evidence, proving the previous 16 years of life, Atreya would have said that that was the day she was born. She remembered how to dance. She remembered how to fight. She remembered how much the feel of a breeze or the wind through the plains made her feel whole. She remembered that she could make a bow and arrow out of anything from paper clips to branches to pvc pipe. But the people. The places. They were blurs. And while her muscles healed quickly from her wounds, her mind insisted that she just move on. Look to the future. The past holds too much pain. So while her parents insisted that her wound would not damage her chances of finding a marriageable husband, she cashed out her savings, built a tiny house, and moved out to the edge of the conservancy.

Now she is well defined by her daily schedule. By the animals she rescues and rehabilitates. By the work ethic she conveys with her peers and the simple life she leads in the wilderness of the Portuguese Bend. Until recently, this seemed to be her present and foreseeable future. Now, she has been threatened by Zeus and her past, well beyond sixteen lost years, is starting to emerge in violent flashes of scent and color. Disagreement with her parents about how teachings and practices are to be interpreted led to a falling out and she no longer calls herself Hindi but chooses the “Spiritualist” categorization instead. Birth Place: LA, California Marital Status: Single & celibate Friends: None close. She prefers nature to people. Family: Abhay Archer (father) & Arundhati Archer (mother) God family: Zeus & Leto (mother & father). Apollo (brother). Current Residence: Atreya built her tiny house on a trailer specifically to escape the pressure from her parents to wed and have children. She has lived there, parked at the edge of the reserve, since she was 17. Dependants/significant others: None at this time and ideally never. She has never had a lover and, for the time being, believe that procreation is pointless for the human race. There are too many mouths to feed already. If you want a child adopt one. Likes: Animals, children, innocents, yoga and meditation, archery, rock and tree climbing, hiking, swimming Dislikes: Her False parents, her true parents, not being in control, self-righteousness, sexual deviants (rapists, child-molesters, etc.), being in the smog-filled city. Fears: The power of Capitalism, anything happening to her Reserve, being forced into Marriage/an unwanted relationship.
