DIVERGENCE FROM CANON (brief): In 'Reset' Owen didn't die, and thus he and Tosh got to go on their date. They started seeing each other after that and fell in love. Tosh moved in with Owen and was hopeful of a proposal coming soon. 3 POSSIBLE JOB POSITIONS FOR YOUR CHARACTER: Computer specialist Investigator Field agent HISTORY (3 paragraphs minimum, please): Tosh was born in London in 1975 but moved to Osaka with her family when she was two years old. The family moved back to London in 1986, when Tosh was 11. Tosh's primary education was undertaken in Japan, where she went to a bilingual school, speaking both Japanese and English, and when she moved back to England, she went to a private high school in London. Given her natural brilliance and the advanced education she had already received in Osaka, Tosh was able to skip a grade. This meant she went to university at 16 and when she finished at 20. Being naturally brilliant, Tosh sailed through her schooling years with excellent grades and went on to university, where she flew through her undergraduate degree with such high marks that she was allowed to begin her doctorate degree immediately. It was during this time that her father passed away. When Tosh finally finished at University, she joined a government think tank. It was during this time that a terrorist group kidnapped her mother and forced Tosh to steal the plans for a sonic modulator from the Ministry of Defence. Having stolen the plans and created a prototype (correcting the mistakes in the plans as she went along) Tosh handed them over, hoping to free her mother. Unfortunately, this was when UNIT appeared and arrested everyone. Tosh was beaten and interrogated, then tossed into a cell with no trial or sentence being handed down. After eight months of captivity in a small stone cell, stripped of her human rights and her dignity, Tosh met the enigmatic Captain Jack Harkness. He fed her, toyed with her, and eventually promised her freedom in exchange for five years of service for Torchwood and limited contact with her mother. There was no decision to be made. Tosh couldn't go back to that cell to live out the rest of her life, and so she pledged herself to Torchwood for five years. What began as a punishment, soon became Tosh's very reason for getting up in the morning, as Torchwood proved to be an incredible job that fulfilled her in almost every way. She was the first to join Jack's team and as such she grew very close to him, but in a familial way, sometimes that of siblings, sometimes father-daughter. Owen was the next to join the team and it didn't take much for Tosh to develop a crush on him. She could see he was hurting though, so she remained friendly and professional but didn't expect anything more. It came as a complete shock when he embarked on an affair with the next person to join their ranks - Suzie Costello. This sent Tosh back into her shell and she focused on her work almost exclusively, deciding it was better that way anyway. Next to join them was Ianto, but Tosh didn't get to know him until after the Cyberwoman incident. She extended an olive branch and they gradually became friends and Ianto returned her kindness when Mary died. Despite her feelings about Suzie, Tosh was shocked when she killed herself and felt guilty for her thoughts during Suzie's affair with Owen. Gwen joining the ranks gave Tosh hope that she might finally have a female friend, but Gwen's condescending nature combined with the thoughts Tosh overheard while wearing Mary's pendant caused her to keep her distance. Gwen starting an affair with Owen was another nail in the coffin of their friendship. The four of them had no choice but to get closer and trust each other when Jack disappeared. This was a key time for the team and they bonded in a way that would have been impossible with Jack around. Thankfully, when Jack returned, this closeness didn't disappear. Owen started making comments that led Tosh to believe that he might be ready for something more than a fling, but when he made no further move, despite her 'hints' she began to think she was waiting for a miracle that would never come. Tommy was a welcome distraction as he was every year, but this time there wasn't the anticipation of the following year but the grief that came with his death. Owen was sweeter than she had expected him to be, but she was feeling too raw to bask in it. When Martha came to help them with a case, Tosh managed to work up the courage to ask Owen out. They agreed on a date and Tosh was thrilled. The case ended with Owen being shot, but thankfully he survived. They postponed their date until Owen was feeling up to it, and after that first date, began spending most of their spare time together until it became obvious that it was pointless having two separate flats. They moved in together and are very comfortable together. A Timeline of Tosh's Life 1975 November 8 Toshiko ? Sato was born in a hospital in London. 1977 July 15 Eighteen-month-old Tosh moved to Osaka with her family. 1986 August 2 Ten-year-old Tosh moved back to London with her family. 1991 September 23 Tosh started at Cambridge University. 1995 May 26 Tosh graduated from university with distinction. 1995 September 25 Tosh started her PhD at Cambridge University. 1997 May 23 Tosh completed her PhD. 1997 September 29 Tosh started a second PhD at Cambridge while also teaching there. 1999 May 21 Tosh completed her second PhD. 1999 November 15 Tosh started work at the Lodmoor Research Facility, part of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). 2004 February 24 Tosh's mother is taken hostage and used to force Tosh to steal the plans of a sonic modulator and build it. 2004 March 25 Tosh delivers the sonic modulator and is arrested by UNIT. She is thrown into prison without trial or hope for release. 2004 November 27 Jack arrives to rescue Tosh, offering her freedom if she works for him for 5 years. 2004 November 29 Tosh's first day at Torchwood. 2005 November 29 Tosh has completed 1 year of her 5 year contract 2006 November 29 Tosh has completed 2 years of her 5 year contract. 2007 November 29 Tosh has completed 3 years of her 5 year contract.
