PERSONALITY
LIKES-
The ocean, the Carrow’s garden, reading whatever she can get her hands on, practicing spells and hexes, planning how to kill her father, reading poetry to her mother’s grave (yes it’s morbid, but she feels at peace there), Amycus, expensive jewelry, gorgeous clothes, dressing nicely, winter, fancy parties, not having to remember.
DISLIKES
-
Her father, Arcturus, sleeping, being treated like a weakling, having to contain her rage, and nightmares, being trapped indoors, pretending to enjoy the company of her father’s friends, and the threat of being married off to some jackass.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Just a little too perfect.
OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Alecto is one of those people that just fit into Slytherin a little too well. She’s incredibly cunning and has used her skills of evasion to rarely get in trouble. Be it because she didn’t want to deal with her father’s wrath, or because it was fun to see her oldest brother get in trouble. Alecto enjoys getting others in trouble for her actions. Taking accountability isn’t as fun as it sounds. Especially with a father like Hector, the cruel bastard. But being that cunning means that she also has to be incredibly secretive. Only one person knows all her secrets, and that’s Amycus. She likes to keep secrets and collect other people's secrets as a way to protect herself.
Maybe all the secret-keeping hasn’t been completely healthy for the girl with a cracking mind. Every so often, Alecto becomes incredibly paranoid. During those moments, not even Amycus can get through to her. She won’t sleep until exhaustion takes her out or someone gives her a dreamless draught. She stays bundled up, hidden from the world. Never wanting anyone to see her like that. Like her mother before she died. Those moments are terrifying to Alecto, and she’s afraid of anyone knowing that her mental state isn’t what she truly portrays.
Hector would kill her if he knew.
While Alecto has a terrible temper, in public she can be incredibly sweet to others. Dealing with both personalities is tiresome, and she would much rather destroy a room out of anger than pay a person compliments. It’s why those compliments tend to be cutting or have the motive to destroy attached to them. She can be cruel and cold. Her stare will be full of contempt or mischief one second, and completely sweet and enchanting the next. But, maybe it’s the shifting of the world, but Alecto has found herself caring less and less about what people expect and want from her and has allowed her sharp tongue to cut a little deeper than before.
Not putting effort into something won’t get a person far. Alecto will work her fingers raw if she has to, just to achieve her dreams and desires. She’s had to prove herself as an asset and has spent many nights staying up too late reading, practicing, and improving herself. At least one thing her father can’t get mad at her for is her grades. Alecto might not always be incredibly intelligent, but she’s a fantastic student and willing to learn to achieve her ends. She needs to succeed in whatever she does so she can’t be swept away and forgotten. Not like her mother.

APPEARANCE
Height 5’3Build Small and average. At least that’s what she’s been told.
Hair Colour Brunette
Eye Colour Brown
Usual Manner of Dress Alecto is most comfortable in the best fashion money can buy. Unfortunately, she’s stuck wearing a uniform most of the time which doesn’t do well for her mood. When she isn’t in the school uniform, she can be found in flowy dresses and skirts, and normally something that covers her arms.
Other Alecto has always felt just normal and unassuming. Her father made sure to make sure that her self-esteem was destroyed as a young girl, so it’s taken her some time to like the freckles that are scattered across her nose and cheeks or how golden her skin is when she spends enough time outside.
HISTORY
TRIGGER WARNING: MENTIONS OF SUICIDEThe Carrow estate was never meant to be a place to raise children. At least not out in the open. Even in a more modern setting, children were supposed to be seen and never heard. Most of the time they should never be seen either. If they were, it was only for guests to compliment how well they behaved, how lovely Alecto was, and how handsome Arcturus and Amycus were becoming. It was for the best as Hector ruled his family with an iron fist, and wanted to break the spirits of the women and mold his sons into miniature versions of him. The greatest gift to a narcissist.
To keep up appearances, Alecto was given everything she ever asked for. Pretty dresses and robes, toys and books, and even a greenhouse was built out in the gardens for the girl to have tea with other pureblood girls her age. Everything was so lovely when glancing in, but if someone looked just a little too long they could see the darkness that seeped into every corner of the family.
Alecto spent most of her days with her mother, Melia, and Amycus. They were young enough that Hector didn’t feel like dealing with them just yet. If they couldn’t hold a wand, they were only good for target practice. Melia tried to protect her children from their father. But every day it seemed like the woman got weaker and weaker. It was unnerving to see the only parent that cared for her slowly start to deteriorate. So Alecto spent her days with her mother, reading to her, hiding from the rest of the world. Melia had been locked away, and as far as everyone in society knew, she was just sick and was getting healthier every day.
Hector was good at spinning lies to make the Carrow family look strong.
Before Alecto knew it, she and Amycus were on the train to Hogwarts. It was like a weight had been lifted off her soul, and she could breathe for the first time. She knew she had to be careful, Hector had spies everywhere, and if she stepped out of line Melia would pay the price. Or she would during the holidays.
She continued to only keep friends that her father would approve of, and rarely looked outside of Slytherin. Except for the other purebloods in other houses. It was tiring, but it was the one way she knew how to protect herself. It almost limited her already very limited worldview. The stress was a lot on the young girl, but it was what she had to do. Slowly, she felt something chip away at her own sanity, but ignored it. Because that was what she was taught to do. Anger would course through her body like an unstoppable fire, but only the forbidden forest would hear her screams and cries of frustration.
Christmas during Alecto’s fifth year was what broke her the most. They had just come home from school, and something felt off at the manor. Something was about to break, but Alecto had no idea what it was going to be. The morning had been quiet, but the terrible feeling continued to grow. Around three in the afternoon, Alecto woke to her mother out of bed for the first time, and standing at the window.
With her heart in her throat, the closer she walked to her mother, the more tears she could see streaming down her face. The bruises were fresh on her arms and neck, and it was in that moment that Alecto knew what was going to happen. Just as she reached out to grab Melia’s hand, the woman smiled and fell out the window to her death. Alecto watched the whole thing happen and couldn’t do a thing to stop her.
And with that, another piece of Alecto’s sanity was stolen. It was when her own fits of paranoia started. Like a bloody curse that slipped from mother to daughter. It was hard to hide them at first, but Amycus knew what to look for after watching their mother go through the same thing and would shelter his sister away. Hector could never know or he’d lock her away forever or kill her. Arcturus could never know either. It became another secret for the twins to keep.
Now, in her final year of Hogwarts, Alecto feels more of her mind slipping away from her. The never quieting anger always bubbling right at the surface. And needing some way, any way, to let out all the frustrations and hurt that she feels. With the quiet conversations, and hinting more at something brewing, Alecto believes she knows exactly how to do just that. Her father might not use her for the tool that she is, but maybe someone else can.
PLOTTING/CONNECTIONS
Amycus - Twin and her best friend. Alecto trusts and adores Amycus more than anyone else in the world. He’s her best friend and confidant. He’s seen her at her lowest, and her highest. They can burn the muggle world down together.Arcturus - Older brother. Alecto and Arcturus have had a very shaky relationship and are incredibly snarky with one another.
Baddies - Okay, so they might be a bit of a boys club, but Alecto will force her way in like the Fury she’s named after.
Frenimies? - It’s school, and she likes to push people's buttons as much as they like to push her. Let's have a little fun with it!
