Personal History: Anand and Madhuri were married in 1978, but their marriage had been planned many years before that, by parents who had come to England from India before they were born. Two years later Madhuri gave birth to twin girls, Padma, who was 14 minutes older, and then Parvati.
Parvati had a rather normal childhood for someone born in her generation. The begining of her life was marred by war, and Madhuri's parents were victims of the war in late 1981. This prompted Madhuri and Anand to consider moving back to India where they would be safer, but the war ended before they could come to a consensus, and they stayed in England.
The Patils were failry traditional parents and expected quite a bit out of their children, expectations which Padma and Parvati worked hard meet. When it came time for Hogwarts, they were ready, having heard about it from family friends and their parents. Parvati was incredibly excited to be sorted into Gryffindor, but that excitement was dampened because of Padma's sorting into Ravenclaw. A little anxious about being separated from her sister, Parvati was a bit hesitant her first few days at Hogwarts, not entirely sure what it was going to be like. But she soon fell back into her old self, bonding with her roommate Lavender and finding time to spend with Padma.
Her time at Hogwarts was good for the most part. Her friendship with Lavender blossomed, and she became as close to her as she could anyone who wasn't her twin sister. Parvati got on well enough with her other roommate, Hermione, though Hermione seemed to prefer the company of Harry and Ron then of Parvati and Lavender. This hurt Parvati's feelings, as she wanted to be friends with both of her roommates. But when Hermione was petrified her second year, Parvati was incredibly scared for her, as the danger of that year became significantly more real. After Hermione was brought back, Parvati decided that she need to work on her relationship with her roommate, and they developed a warm, though not close, friendship.
Her third year she stumbled into Divination quite by accident, but ended up loving the class, and finding Professor Trelawney to be one of her mentors. During her fourth year she went to the Yule Ball with Harry Potter, but ended up spending quite a bit of time with one of the Beauxbatons boys, and dated him for the rest of that year, though she knew that relationship had a short life expectancy, and it didn't last past his return to Beauxbatons.
Though the Patils were a rather conservative family, Parvati's home in Gryffindor made her a strong supporter of Harry Potter's, and joining Dumbledore's Army her fifth year was an easy decision to make. Her sixth year was a bit more complicated, when Lavender fell head over heels for Ron. Parvati had the feeling that the relationship wasn't going to go the way that Lavender hoped, as she'd always had a bit of a sense that there was an unspoken tension between Hermione and Ron, but she did her best to support her friend anyways. As Lavender was often off with Ron, Parvati spent more time this year with her sister then she had in years past, and realized how much she had been missing Padma. [details of their relationship to be filled in more after discussions with Padma's player] However, the world outside of the castle made the Patils quite anxious, and Parvati and Padma were almost called home that year, rather than being allowed to finish off the year at Hogwarts.
When Parvati was notified that she would become the Gryffindor prefect for her seventh and final year at Hogwarts, she was incredibly surprised and a bit uncomfortable. She know that this meant that Hermione wouldn't be there, which made her concerned about her roommate's fate. She also wasn't sure about the responsibility that she would face with that, and the authority that was behind it. Parvati had her sister to turn to for advice, but while being a prefect is something that Padma has experience with, dealing with the Carrows is not.
Parvati wants to make sure that her misbehavior or unwillingness to do everything that may be asked of her doesn't affect Padma as the Head Girl. Trying to balance her sense of responsibility to the position with her sense of what is right was a real problem for Parvati as first, but as the year has gone on, it has started to get easier for her to make the decision to do what she thinks is right.
