Full name: Verity Diane De Luca Nicknames: Ver, V Gender: Female Age: 20 Date of Birth: 9 March 1978 Hogwarts House: Slytherin Years at Hogwarts: 1989-1997 Blood Status: Pureblood Played-By: Alona Tal Suggested Journal Name:_veritably
History: Verity Diane De Luca was born on the 9th of March, 1978 to Orlando and Marianne De Luca. They are quite wealthy and while they themselves are not elitest, certain branches of their family are. Verity is their youngest child and only daughter, and so growing up in a wealthy Pureblood family should have made her rather spoiled. Instead, she became incredibly free-spirited, believing that she could do anything that she wanted and to hell with anyone who said otherwise. She is quite an individual and expresses this mainly through her style of dress (very bohemian, wearing mainly denims and floaty skirts with peasant style tops, tank tops, etc. She loves paisley and bright colors, and wears scarves all the time- floaty scarves, chunky scarves, long scarves, short scarves....she wears them all. She is also fond of those floppy beret type knit hats that are worn over the back of the head...with the little wisps in the front?), but also through her slightly kooky attitude. This was her mother's influence for the most part; Orlando wanted Verity to have more structure, but Marianne refused to allow her daughter's creativity to be stifled. She did have all kinds of lessons as a child, but the ones that really stuck were the art lessons. To this day, Verity loves to draw and paint (and is quite good at it, putting it to work at the shop designing advertising campaigns- she jokes that the Weasley lads keep her around so all they have to do is blow things up).
She idolized her older brother Callum and from the time he left for Hogwarts wanted nothing more than to go herself. It was no surprise when she sorted Slytherin, as her whole family (minus Callum, whom she and her parents teased awfully when he sorted Ravenclaw) had been sorted there for generations. And while Verity enjoyed school, she enjoyed the social aspect far more. She was not the world's most dedicated student, preferring to flirt with boys and draw in the margins of her notes instead of paying attention in class. She did the readings, though, and so scraped by with reasonable marks.
Verity was quite fond of making friends and didn't think that there were enough people that she liked in Slytherin, so she went outside her house looking for people that she enjoyed spending time with. This is how she met the Weasley twins, though their friendship didn't really develop overly much till she started to work for them. Verity was also quite fond of boys, and by age 14 had garnered a reputation for dating and dumping fellows- not because she was a slag, or a tease, but because she simply couldn't make up her mind. She liked them all.
Over the Christmas hols of her sixth year (she had stayed at school to attend the Yule Ball) Verity discovered the unthinkable. She was pregnant, by her recently-ex boyfriend, Terence Higgs. She panicked at first, but after a long conversation with the matron and her parents where she begged Madam Pomfrey not to tell anyone she decided that she could do it- she could finish out the year, hiding her pregnancy as best she could (and when she couldn't, merely pretending she was just gaining weight, though she did pretty well with hiding it beneath her robes) and then would give birth once she was at home. To this day it amazes her that she was able to keep it a secret, and there were many fat jokes directed her way toward the end of term, but Verity merely held her head up and ignored them.
Once back at home, Verity and her parents worked out a plan. She would give birth at home that summer, keeping everything very hush-hush (they could not handle the society scandal if it were to be discovered) and then once Verity went back to school her parents would raise the baby. It was spread about that Marianne was pregnant again and due to give birth any day (she perpetuated the ruse by staying out of the public eye once she found out about her daughter's condition) and so everyone would simply think that the child was Verity's sister. Verity knew that this was for the best, but when she held her little girl in her arms that first time the thought of leaving her nearly broke her heart. She had one short month with Michaela, or Mickey as Verity is fond of calling her, before she had to return to school, and by the time she got back for hols her child was a gorgeous four month old who would hardly go to her at first.
Leaving her the second term wasn't any easier, but Verity had to finish her NEWTs. She got reasonably good marks, though nothing fantastic, and made it through the remainder of the year without incident. Upon returning home that summer she promptly asked Fred and George for a job, since she knew she needed one and their products intrigued her, and she has worked there ever since. She still lives at home, and she takes care of Mickey when she is not at work, though her mother shares the duties when she is. Michaela is very aware that Verity is her mother these days, but isn't quite sure why she doesn't get to go out with her much, although she does go to the shop some days (those days, Verity just crosses her fingers and hopes that Michaela doesn't call her 'Mummy' where anyone can hear).
Verity has been struggling lately with whether to tell everyone that Mickey is her daughter. She really wants to stop keeping the secret, wants to take the little girl and move out to their own place, but as much as she wants it the idea frightens her, because she has never had full responsibility of Michaela herself before. She still works for George, because really with her family, if she didn't want to work she wouldn't have to- she just enjoys working at the shop. George has also started to depend on her more since Fred died, and she feels a sense of responsibility toward him and the shop.
Personality: COMING. I SWEAR. (though a lot of it is woven into the history)
Occupation: Shop clerk/assistant for WWW.
What does your character value the most? Her daughter. Without question.
What does your character regret? Not telling anyone about Michaela, especially Terence. She's quite afraid that Michaela will grow up thinking that Verity is ashamed of her, and Verity isn't.
What is your character proud of? Her artistic ability, although she's not done much with that lately, nor where anyone public can really see. Still, it makes her feel she has something of her own. She's also proud of not subscribing to blood status prejudices unlike so many of her peers.
If you had to sum your character up into a stereotype, what would it be and why? The Teenage Mother, obviously. Other than that, The Free Spirit. Verity is quite open and creative, sort of...bohemian at times.
What do you believe your character will offer to the game? Having a child as a teenager always carries some sort of stigma, and I'm sure it would be even more so in the wizarding world. Adding to that the fact that a Pureblood girl had a child out of wedlock? A nice recipe for some societal drama at the very least.
