BASICS

FULL NAME: James Charlus Potter
NICKNAME: James, Jim, Jamie (only his mum can call him that, thank you,) Prongs, victor, hello gorgeous.
AGE / BIRTHDATE: 19 | March 27, 1960
BLOOD: Pure, not that it matters.
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual
MARITAL STATUS: It’s supremely complicated. In a nutshell, he has just been awarded Lily Evans by President Healy as, in the most literal sense, a trophy wife. However, while he has yet to tell her this, he’s sure she’ll be thrilled.

OCCUPATION: To the public, James Potter is a mentor to the Tributes from District 2 and a baby-kisser. However, behind closed doors and public knowledge, Healy has turned James into an assassin just like his father.
SCHOOL / YEARS: N/A, but he did attend the district school until he was reaped
SCHOOL ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Winner of the 1976 Hunger Games, on track for most detentions.
APPEARANCE

APPEARANCE: James didn’t have to do much to earn his status as a heartthrob during his games. He is tall and slender, peaking at 6’1” and never looking back. Years of training with his father sculpted long, lean muscles all over his body, resulting in the desired V which tapers into slim hips that sit above long legs fully capable of chasing down both fellow tributes and loose pets in District 2. His crop of thick brown hair turns lighter in the sun, giving him a more boyish look the deeper into summer the year goes. Before going into the arena James sported glasses, but before he was paraded around during his victory tour the medics removed a large splinter that had gotten lodged in there during the games, reducing his visibility to one eye, and eliminated the need for corrective eyewear. Every now and then he slides on a glass pair for the hell of it, a small reminder of how simple things were before he went into the arena. Neither the glasses he used to wear nor the thick eyebrows that sit over his eyes are enough to hide their bright hue.

The Games and the aftermath quickly took their toll on James’ boyish good looks. The boy whose name was called out in 1976 didn’t have as many lines etched into his face, and a fight in the arena resulted in a small scar cutting through his right eyebrow. People say that it makes him look experience, but each time he catches sight of the remainder of his time in purgatory he reaches up and tries to smooth it away. His eyes are as equally likely to turn as cold as ice as they are to sparkle with mischief, a talent that came along with the new profession Healy gave him. Like the other victors, James’ clothes are fine quality and tailored to both show off his body, enhancing the heartthrob image the game gave him, and to allow him to transition easily from one aspect of his life to another.

PLAYED BY: Chris Pine orrrrr... someone else idk?
PERSONALITY

PERSONALITY:

Unlike most citizens in the districts, James never wanted for anything. Being the son of a victor meant that he had the world at his fingertips and never had to go to bed hungry at night. He didn’t have to worry about when and where his next meal would be or having to make the decision to buy firewood over clothing. In short, before James went down into the district for schooling, he was an entitled little brat. He was arrogant, too big for his britches, charming, and was content to sit back and let others do the dirty work.

The children at school made quick work of James when he arrived. Sirius was never hesitant to call out James on his entitled airs he put on and Remus would subtly let James know that he had stepped out of line. Trips to his friends’ houses opened his eyes to how most people didn’t have it as well as he did, and it bothered him. He tried to help them as best he could, whether that was making sure an extra bit of bread was packed in his lunch for school so he could slip it to someone or giving Remus his new gloves when his had a hole in them. He did all that he could to help Remus’ monthly transformations, and even though he wasn’t able to be there when his friend needed him the most, he always stayed as late and arrived as early in the morning as he could to make sure he was alright.

While bright, James never let on exactly how sharp he was and chose to keep up appearances of being lazy and ambivalent. He was Charlus Potter’s son, so it was expected that he acted a certain way. He quickly learned from the others that if the wrong person found out that he could do something well it could be held over him, so he made sure to act like he was supposed to. He perfected the art of appearing lazy while watching those around him, carefully taking notes on how they both failed and succeeded in their tasks and filing it away for future use. While he knows he’s damn good at what he does, the rest of the world doesn’t need to know the exact extent of his talents. Keep ‘em guessing, lure them in with a mystery.

It would be a lie to say that James was a perfect angel no matter how many times he tried to prove it. His arrogance and loud mouth still often get the best of him, and he made a run for the most detentions in his class. He never knew when to quiet down when an idea formed in his head in class, and come hell or high water he was going to tell everyone around him the brilliant idea that popped in his mind even if that meant staying after school to wash the chalkboards. His idea was the best, and he wasn’t afraid to let other people know it. He wasn’t above bullying those he didn’t like and would often get caught up in the moment when Sirius and Peter would join in. He’s not proud of what he did when he did when he was younger, but it’s a part of him he can’t go back and change.

James is a stubborn person. Often times James has trouble seeing the gray areas in life. Things are good or bad, people are for or against you, and there is never a middle ground where things can go either way unless somehow he is persuaded to change his mind. Once he gets an idea in his head it’s stuck there, and he refuses to listen to any one else’s opinion. He doesn’t like being told what to do, and this got him in trouble when he first entered the arena. He eschewed his mentor’s help, choosing instead to follow the plan that he had been devising ever since Sirius was killed. He had poured over the tapes, taking meticulous notes of both the good and bad things that his friend had did, and believed that his knowledge alone would help him survive. However, he didn’t know the nuances like Snape did, and this reared up to bite him (literally) in the ass when he had been caught napping by one of the other tributes. Luckily something Snape had told him stuck, and he had to deliver an embarrassingly public apology during the games to get his next parachute from his sponsors. The words “I’m sorry, I was wrong,” still sting a bit coming out, but not as bad as it did when he had to mutter them to Severus Snape.

Even though arrogant and stubborn are a few words that could be used to describe James, it’s hard to ignore his charming nature and sense of humor. He is aware that he is a handsome man and uses that to his advantage. His smiles come quickly, and he isn’t afraid of pouring on the charm when it comes to the ladies. He can spin a compliment on anything he sets his mind to in order to win over supporters as easily as he can make a laugh pass through your lips. Whether or not the laugh is of delight or disbelief is entirely up to the other person.

James’s time in the arena matured him. His underlying charming nature is still there, but he has figured out how to best use it to get other people to do what he wants to save his own skin. He isn’t as quick to jump at a chance to stir up mischief and takes a moment to step back, thinking ahead about the consequences of his actions. His swagger comes now from a sense of pride in how hard he has worked to improve his skills instead of out of entitlement. James now has a better understanding of the world he lives in, and the injustices are starting to become more apparent the older he gets.

SPECIAL ABILITIES / TALENTS: James has a habit of turning up where he is least expected. He learned how to sneak around from Sirius as if he was virtually invisible, padding on his feet in just the right way as to not be heard. He can do a bit of wandless magic and has toyed around enough with a wand to find out that he could be pretty ace at transfiguration if he tried. He’s also a very good shot.
HISTORY

FAMILY:
Parents:
Father: Charlus Potter, 60. Winner of the 1936 Healy Games, current ‘trapman’ for President Healy.

Mother: Dorea (Black) Potter, 59. Teacher at the district school.

HISTORY: Charlus Potter had everything he wanted. He had been crowned the winner of the Healy Games in 1936, given a lavish house in the Victors’ Village, had everything at his disposal, and he had given District 2 another win in the books. He had risen from being an apprentice at the brickmason’s shop to having more money than he had ever seen. His parents were eating three solid meals a day and he had shoes with soles. However, Eoin Healy had plans for the seventeen year old.

After the parades and celebrations were over, Healy started keeping a closer eye on Charlus. It hadn’t gone unnoticed by the president that he had an eye for setting traps during his time in the arena, and he soon decided what the victor from District 2 would do to serve him. Charlus was taken from his home and returned to the Capitol where he underwent intense training not unlike that he experienced before his games started. It wasn’t until after the basics were remastered that Healy took Charlus aside and informed him of what his role was to be: Charlus was to create traps - verbal and physical alike - for the enemies of the state to fall into. At first Charlus disagreed; he had his fill of deception during the games, why did he want to continue? The answer to that question came a few days later when he learned that his father had died in an accident in the stone quarries. Regardless of Charlus’ thoughts on the matter, he numbly agreed and spent years at Healy’s beck and call. It wasn’t until he had proven himself worthy that he was given permission to marry Dorea Black, the dark haired beauty he remembered from his school days when he was a boy. Dorea was, for lack of a better term, given to Charlus as a trophy.

Even though his marriage to her was a constant reminder that his life to her was controlled by Healy, Charlus and Dorea eventually grew to love each other. His ‘line of work’ kept him away from his wife, and it wasn’t until they were both nearing forty and Healy was training other victors to work alongside Charlus that Dorea finally conceived a child. They had spent many nights discussing the pros and cons as to having a child, but ultimately Dorea’s wishes won out and James Charlus Potter graced the world with his presence on March 27, 1960.

Unlike most of the children in District 2, James was reared in a comfortable home. He never knew hunger or hardship, always had clothes on his back, and he didn’t have to worry about whether or not he would receive an education. His parents were unable to give him a sibling, so he never had to compete for their attention or for the food on the table.

It wasn't until he met Remus and Peter that he truly realised that not everyone had it as easy as him. School was an eye-opening experience for James. His big mouth and callous sense of humour got him in trouble more often than not, but he was good to his friends and tried to share whatever he had with them. When they learned that Remus was a Werewolf, they made it their mission to make his transitions as easy as possible for him. They stayed for as long as was safe before the full moon, and visited first thing in the morning with bread hot from his mother's oven and hot chocolate. Peter had a habit of worming his way into the facilities before they were officially open, allowing the boys quicker access to their friend and earning him the nickname “Wormtail.”

Even though James considered Remus and Peter to be his good friends, Sirius Black managed to earn the title of best mate. He was his other half, his partner in crime. He took the biggest shots at James’ ego, bringing him down a few pegs, but he was always there when there was mischief to get into. He ruthlessly teased James about his crush on the red headed Lily Evans from school, telling him to man up and to ask her. James took his advice repeatedly, but to no avail. Despite his friend’s prodding, Lily had no time for his “dreamy eyes and ego the size of the Capitol.”

It wasn’t until 1975 that James understood where the people got their resentment for Healy. He had always thought that hearing his name would be the worst thing he could hear coming out of the announcer’s voice at the Reaping, but he was wrong. That year the tributes had been voted into the arena, and by some stroke of misfortune the people of District 2 chose Sirius Black as their tribute. He was tall, strong, known for being clever, and had a pretty high chance of winning, but none of this mattered to James as his friend was dragged up to the platform. James was mute in horror, and it took every ounce he had not to go rip his best friend from the peacekeeper’s grasp, breaking the promise Peter, James, and Sirius had made when they were all old enough to be reaped. If one was to go into the arena, the others were to stick together and watch over Remus.

The boys were glued to the games from day 1. They watched as Sirius charmed the sponsors through his interviews and was awarded a decent score after training. The more they watched, the more James grew to hate the people of his district who voted him in. Each time Sirius killed another tribute he blamed the person sitting next to him for turning his best friend into the creature of the games. The little boy playing jacks was blamed for Sirius’s food supply going bad. And when Sirius died, James blamed them all. Most of all, James blamed Severus Snape, the newest victor and mentor of the district 2 tributes. James didn’t care that he had been a young victor; he just saw him as the person who had lead his friend to his death.

Disgusted, James withdrew from those around him. He was still polite on the outside, but the pain of losing his best friend took his friend slowly started to eat at him. He channeled the anger towards his fellow district citizens into pouring over the tapes of Sirius’ games, trying his best to see what had worked and what hadn’t for the shaggy-haired boy. He still had a few years of eligibility left and didn’t want to waste an opportunity to do him justice. He didn’t know that he would have only a year to wait.

James was reaped the following year and was whisked towards the Capitol to prepare for the games. To say he was unhappy to see the man who was to serve as his mentor was an understatement. He avoided Snape as much as he could, choosing to muddle his way through the train and stuffed his face full of dinner rolls when his former classmate tried to teach him about what to expect and, after swallowing, informed his mentor that if that had been such a great idea then Sirius would have been alive.

James didn’t lay low during his time with the other tributes. He knew he was charming and played it up, doing his best to convince the others that he was a harmless, affable boy with a large ego. Granted, it wasn’t a hard role to put on since he had years of perfecting his role back home. He established himself as no threat, someone who was all talk and no bite. While he appeared to be getting nothing out of the trainings - always falling off the courses despite his muscular form, never quite managing to his his target with the arrow - he was watching the others instead of watching what he did. He felt confident that his knowledge garnered from watching Sirius’ tapes would be enough for when he got in there, but he couldn’t learn about his competition when they would be scattered all over the place. He sealed his chosen image during his interview. When asked if there was someone special back home, James looked the camera square on, said, “There’s a particular flower that blooms just for me,” and winked. James earned a six. From what learned from Remus later, Lily had been just as amused as the gamekeepers had.

The gamekeepers decided to throw out something different for the 1976 Healy Games. The tributes found themselves in a world consisting of twisting alleys, tall metal buildings that glinted in the light, and steam that seemed to escape from every crack. James managed to snag a handful throwing knives and a spear-like weapon as soon as the games started, and by the end of the ensuing battle only half the tributes survived.

James didn't really want to kill anyone. It wasn't in his nature to be so ruthless, but he adapted a mindset where he recognized that it was either him or them, and he didn't want to die. He had a grudge to settle, after all. He swore to himself that if he had to kill someone, he wouldn't take pleasure in it, and he would make it as quick and painless as possible. He favored a pronged weapon that was made especially by the capitol, and would shove the spike directly to the heart, or through the fleshy part under the neck and up into the brain, hoping to give the quickest death possible. He didn’t keep track of the other children he killed; he simply killed and moved on.

He took refuge on the rooftops and established that as his ground. There, James could easily move around without having too many blind corners to worry about. Being so high up gave him two advantages over the others: he was able to escape the cloying steam and could easily spot the others. He copied Sirius’s way of walking without making much sound, so the younger tributes had a hard time hearing his footfalls on the roof.

Bored, the gamemakers decided to drive the remaining tributes towards each other. Buildings exploded all around the arena, guiding the tributes towards the center. James started running, but his legs weren’t faster than a gamekeeper’s finger. A building nearby exploded into trillions of sharp metal fragments that embedded themselves into any available surface, including James’ eye. Half blind and lips cracking from the oppressive heat given off by the fires and melting metal around him, James managed to stumble back into the same place the games had started, slashing wildly with his weapons. The explosions claimed some lives, and it wasn't until he heard the gamemaker's voice announcing him the winner that he realized he was the last one left standing. James Potter of District 2, had won.

After he was cleaned up from the games, James was paraded through the districts. He was given his own house in the village he had grown up in and was never wanting for company - particularly those of the female kind. He briefly wondered where Lily was, but the arrival of one of Healy’s right hand man a few weeks after he had settled in stopped those thoughts. He was given a brief explanation of what his father had done when had left on one of his numerous business trips when he was little, and the games he had just gone through dulled the surprise he was expected to feel. He was given an ultimatum: agree to what Healy had in plan for him or put the life of a loved one in danger. The games had taken its toll on him, and while he didn’t know which person was in danger, James quickly chose the former. He had killed enough, he rationalized. There was no reason for anyone to die on his account.

He was whisked back to the capitol and soon underwent rigorous training not unlike that his father had gone through all of those years before. This time, however, Healy had different plans for the youngest Potter. He had taken note on how James had tracked the other tributes in the arena and how he had found ways to quiet his steps, minimizing the chance that he would be heard. Despite being fresh out of the arena James still had a bit of confidence left in him and still had a sure, arrogant air around him, something the president deemed just right for his newest job opening. James Potter, victor of the ‘76 Hunger Games, was trained to be an assassin.

It wasn’t until a few years later after mentoring a handful of tributes that James learned who the loved one Healy had taken from him was. Lily Evans had been removed from District 2 as soon as James had taken refuge on the roof, signaling that he had a fighting chance in the arena. Rumors had been circulated that she wanted to move more out in the country, discouraging others from following her. Instead, Healy had taken her to the Capitol to use as he pleased. Now that James had proven himself as his father had, Healy was prepared to offer him a trophy for his accomplishments. After all, according to anyone in District 2, all Potter men are the same.

WORLD

WHAT WORLD ARE THEY FROM? The Hunger Game world
WHAT YEAR ARE THEY FROM? 1979
HOW DOES THEIR WORLD DIFFER? See the googledoc.
HOW DOES THIS CHANGE THEM?
Like James from canon, this James still has an air of confidence surrounding him. However, as of the end of the games, his confidence doesn’t comes as naturally. He knows he’s good at what he does, but what he does is what eats away at his carefree attitude. Sirius died early, ridding him of his best friend. Sirius never ran away to the Potters’ because he died before that would happen on the timeline. Peter never betrayed him because there’s no Death Eaters/Lord Voldemort. Also, the Marauders weren’t able to turn into animals to help Remus, so their monikers came from different things.

Snape had the upper hand on James during the games as opposed to James having the upper hand at Hogwarts. Snape served as James mentor, and while James hated Snape for getting Sirius killed under his mentorship, James eventually came to listen to Snape and they became friends through their mutual hate of Healy and the capitol.

Also, this James hasn’t had the time to fall in love with the Lily in his world. Lily wasn’t there when he came back from his games, so the years that he would have had to fall in love with her before he married her were taken from them. That being said, it isn’t as if he doesn’t care for her; he just isn’t madly in love with her. He had a schoolboy crush on her, but it’s been a few years since he’s seen her, so he’s more fascinated than infatuated by her.

OTHER STUFF

THREE RANDOM FACTS
1. Even though he’s not proud to admit it, when James returned from the Games he didn’t notice that Lily wasn’t there anymore. He got swept up in the sudden attention that surrounded him - specifically by the fans of the female variety - and failed to notice a distinct lack of brilliant red hair in his hometown. Her absence didn’t fully register until things had quieted, but after he couldn’t find any straight answers he assumed that she had left for a different part of the District.

2. James doesn’t like to be hot. It reminds him too much of the steam and final explosions in the arena. To avoid waking up twisted in sheets and hoarse from a nightmare, James has adopted sleeping only with a light blanket. He’ll nervously tug at his collar if the temperature in the room gets too high, and, even though it kills him to look like a middle-aged witch, he’s not above fanning himself with a spare piece of parchment if it means keeping the panic at bay.

3. Even though his friends gave him a hard time about turning away food, James loathes peas with a firey passion. Not only would he scrape the peas off his plate and onto Peter’s at lunch, but he’d also donate any other items on his plate that touched the little buggers.

WHAT ITEMS / OBJECTS OF NOTE DID YOUR CHARACTER HAVE ON THEM WHEN TAKEN?
James is coming from being transported to collect Lily after Healy awarded her to James. He was dressed in his finest clothes with his glasses tucked in his pocket for old time’s sake so she’d recognize him, gently placed alongside the piece of shrapnel that they removed from his eye. He was ‘off duty,’ but the wand he had finally caved in and purchased is tucked into his back pocket. In addition, James is holding a single rose that he planned on presenting to her.

FIRST PERSON:

Warded Private

Of course he wouldn't just give you her, Potter. You've got to find her. Think. If you were hiding this redhead, where would she be? Of course she'd be in the library, but that would be too obvious. That's not his style. He wants to make you sweat, and Merlin, I'm in my best suit. That bastard.

Oh, did I mention that there are multiple versions of Lily here? As if things weren't twisted enough already, he puts copies of her out there and ages them differently. Bloody fanfuckingtastic.

Or. You know. He could have not done any of the above to make me paranoid. He's not above doing that either. I guess I better get started. Where the fuck is Snape when I need him?

My names is James Charlus Potter, the winner of the 1976 Healy Game. I currently seeking a Miss Lily Evans. If you have any information as to her whereabouts, please, let me know. I will await information in my unit.
