A warm breeze enveloped her like a blanket teasing her filmy gown and the ebony tips of her long tresses. Gazing toward the stars, silently the Amazon stood, bare feet on the cool floor of her balcony waiting for the shadow man living in her dreams, he'd appeared alongside her a hundred times in her dreams Diana preferred to fly to her Ethiopian destination. When she flew, it was like smelling the sweet breath of her father. There was an absence she could not identify when she flew alone. Navigating above the storm clouds ahead, a blue one engulfed her. Common, these were visible signals of the ever-increasing climate change. There was a tingling of her skin, a brief blurriness of vision, and an anticipation of dread until she cleared the other side. Touching down, on the sandy water, with one foot and then the other, neglected children crowded around her daring to pet her lengthy curls when she arrived. “Salam," Diana replied greeting them, tussling the hairs of the youngest members of this society. Walking through them as if she were Moses parting the red sea, she walked in the direction of the makeshift building. Terrified screams garnered her attention. Across the village, a giant crocodile swam through the saturated streets. Pushing off with her feet, she soared up and over until she intersected the croc on its path of destruction. One strong metacarpus reached the tail of the beast. Lifting the predator above her head, she wielded the monster in ever-growing circles releasing him at its furthest distance from the townspeople. Flinging the killer in the direction of the trees across the village its back collided with them breaking his back. 'Sāvyər,' the people shouted, clapping. Softly Diana laughed, she was no one's savior. Hard to hear above the chants, she missed the sound of another superhero's appearance. Turning on a dime, ready to sprint forward, Diana crashed into the handsome man behind her. The force of the impact tipped them over. Kal-El's arms wrapped around her instinctually. Spilling over in the murky water filling the streets, she automatically apologized. "Excuse me." Nose to nose, Diana's lids blinked in rapid succession as the realization awoke lost memories in her brain. "Clark?" She queried, eyes honing in on his face, uncertain of the mystery man's identity until he smiled. "It is you!" Her arms found their way through mud snaking around his neck. Diana hugged Clark while the pieces of the puzzle filling voids in her memory began revealing themselves. "I," she began still a little confused. The Princess of Themyscira's cursed mind began unraveling the riddles plaguing her. A rush of affection surged through her as she began to remember. "I remember you." |
